  1. Nice ideas and I wish it were the case! Employers are not paying for heating and WiFi etc. Fake backgrounds etc are great but doesn?t solve the space problem if you live in a small, cramped home. Family members are being forced to stay in the bedroom for a lot of the day. Confidential meetings and discussion can be overheard etc. Think about all the thousands of low paid workers for the nhs for example. Working from home is costly and miserable for workers and their co-habitors unless lucky enough to have space, an office, a spare room etc. These kinds of facilities advertised by the OP will be a welcome relief for some JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > binkylilyput Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Great news and much needed! 2. Because many employers have closed offices and aren?t allowing workers in Robbie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > binkylilyput Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Great news and much needed! 3. Great news and much needed! The assumption that people can do their job from home raises huge social class issues as far as I'm concerned. Huge assumptions that everyone has a spare room, somewhere quiet, good wifi etc. Deluded world! Anyways, these facilities are very, very welcome!
  4. Greedy landlords or people who are also needing an income too? An example of this being a friend who has been forced to sofa surf as their only source of income (their tenant)has not been paying rent due to Covid The assumption being that as landlord they have heaps of cash Very sad for Canavans also. The financial impact of Covid is hitting hard and will be worse during the winter when businesses try to survive without the initial government support
  5. I'm glad that people have taken the time to engage with this post- the more the better I think. I have attempted to engage with P J Carpet Cleaning but, as anticipated, he has not wanted to have a discussion. I think the both approaches are useful. I am willing to be proactive in challenging racially motivated abuse. I don't care which group of people he was targeting with his comment "deportation of all" and so if, as he later stated, he meant "migrants coming from France" I am as angered as if he openly named black people......and personally suspect this is what he meant. P J Carpet Cleaning should learn that their racial attacks and threatening words are not supported or tolerated. If their business suffers as a result then that is a life consequence. In the past I have felt worried about standing up and doing something pro-active about racism. That's not what I want to do any more and I'm working hard to not be complicit when I see it before me.
  6. Do you think that is what my point is? I'd say there are far bigger issues at stake here and your comment just side tracks that TheCat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Shall we destroy the businesses of the 924 people > who havent posted on here, as they are complicit?
  7. I'm glad you agree. I am interested to hear forum user views and hope that the 928 users who have viewed this post are equally as angered by this local business man's racial abuse. The post was not allowed in the main section unfortunately. If we stand by and do nothing, we are complicit and racism continues no?
  8. I am needing to attach them in separate posts as too big and I don?t have the know how but I hope folk can decipher them!
  9. Thank you Admin for reinstating this post. I believe it to be very important in the interests of proactively challenging racism and racial abuse, including online. I have screenshots if forum users think it appropriate to post as I?m aware that folk may not be members of the FB groups mentioned.
  10. Sorry if this is the incorrect section (admin please move if it is) but I thought it really important to get the word out about this individual. If any of you are members of the East Dulwich Forum, East Dulwich Mums or Nunhead Rocks Facebook pages you will see posts relating to racial abuse and threats from the man behind P J Carpet Cleaning. The person on the receiving end took screenshots of his messages so there is clear proof. Silly billy used his business account to post these nasty messages...? and his posts have also been shared on his business FB page! I could save the pictures and post on here but I'm not sure that would be allowed (the original posters have given permission to post far a wide though). P J Carpet Cleaning have a recommendation on this forum, there may be more but I've only done a quick search. I think this racial abuse should be exposed and named so I have decided to begin this thread. I hope people will take the time to look for themselves and agree that this individual should have his messages shared or at least named.
  11. Dentists are taking appointments but not actually doing any treatment! What is going on?!
  12. I love the new no car system. Being cautious as a cyclist but finding it great! There will always be some foolish people in any situation
  13. It's because the women have already: Bought the food Stored the food Prepared the food Sorted out the BBQ area so it's ready to BBQ Made the arrangement with friends to come over Figured out which guests are veggie etc Cleaned the house so it is fit for people walk through Cleaned the bathroom and toilet so guests aren't horrified Dressed the kids Entertained the kids while they wait Filled the paddling pool Brought the food out to the table Organised cutlery, plates etc Gotten everyone drinks Sorted out the kids who are now fighting, crying or falling out of a tree Ensured there are salads and other things to go with BBQ food Made sure everyone has something to eat Then...? Cleared the plates Topped up everyone's drinks Sorted out icecream or some kind of pud Socialised Attended to the kids for the millionth time Tidied up Cleared away Washed up Put everything away Sorted out the kids again Sound familiar guys? Nope? Of course not, the men folk haven't noticed all of this happening (daily.....as if it's a miracle) because they are too busy with their one responsibility which is to turn a burger and attempt not to kill anyone with an under cooked drumstick
  14. I was disappointed with Sopers on my last visit. Fish really looked a bit tired. It was at the tail end of lockdown and also later on in the day but nevertheless...?I chose not to buy Always had a good experience with Moxons. You get what you pay for and a long queue is often a good sign. Lots of customers with a fast turnover of fish is no bad thing Scallops are pricey. Order them in advance then go collect
  15. Any other possibilities or suggestions? Google isn't coming up with much and many caravans seem to rent for a whole week only
  16. Considering a last minute getaway for a couple of nights this weekend Anyone want to let out their static caravan, glamping tent, cute cottage, seafront apartment or some such like? For two adults :-)
  17. Is this post meant to be a joke or something?! How can people eat their meal or drink their drink while wearing a mask?!
  18. Great initiative, thank you for all your hard work. I have sent a PM
  19. Really helpful tips, thanks! How would you suggest managing positioning at junctions? I would like to be at the front in the cycle box, safely waiting for the lights to go green but so often I'm left with that scary dilemma of whether the lights will change as I try to scoot to the front of the traffic. Or that cars will begin to come from the opposite direction. So often I see cyclists bravely getting themselves to the front while I stay wedged behind a bus or fat vehicle, breathing in the fumes. Any tips?
  20. I'd say I had quite a different experience on the same lines to NewWave but different times. Was very quiet and 99% folk wearing a mask. One or two not. Occasionally people dropped their mask to have a bit of a breath (it was stuffy and warm) or a drink or whatever but most people seemed to be doing what they are meant to do. Also giving out free masks at some stations plus police presence at a number of stations that I used. It was also very quiet, even at rush hour in the afternoon. Nothing will be perfect and not everyone will comply all of the time but good enough compliance should be good enough!
  21. Totally spot on. Thanks so much. I love it when a clever meme sums things up so accurately. Even better when the person personified in the meme chimes back in with EXACTLY the response that the meme exemplified! So brilliant. I feel like I can stop reading and feeling angry about this thread now eastdulwichavenger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This is the vibe I get from this thread
