I feel as though the government should have banned all deliveries or ANYTHING if the risk is that significant No food, no letters, no nothing Maybe tape up your letter box?!

are any toilet facilities open in Dulwich park?
binkylilyput replied to chaz123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not having toilets open isn't exactly encouraging people to wash their hands......which is meant to be the single most effective strategy to avoid the virus (other than staying indoors 100%) -
Lindylou you seem to have responded to my post twice......and neither responses particularly make sense in reference to my post! Of course there are children from all ethnic backgrounds who struggle. That wasn?t my point. And I don?t know who the cat?s mother is- I didn?t use the word she at all?! My point is quite clearly that the BAME community is worse off across all socioeconomic markers. The health of these groups is far worse as a result. This is well known and widely documented. Inequality. Anyways, back to football?
-
Some communities are more disadvantaged. That means poorer living conditions, less space etc. Also people with less money are more likely to have to go to work, travel on public transport plus do jobs that are more "frontline". The disadvantages that the BAME community face remain widespread........I would have thought this hardly needs to be stated. I personally haven't observed any substantial difference in social distancing between the two high streets of Peckham or East Dulwich recently. Both are busy.

Yeah Babur is the only place I can think of. There is the restaurant and the takeaway. The restaurant is the pricey, upmarket one. It is nicer than your average but is definitely better when eaten in (perhaps some dishes don't travel that well).

Increase in calls to helplines from young people who are struggling to manage at home with parents problematic drinking :-( https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-calls-to-charity-double-as-children-struggle-in-lockdown-with-alcoholic-parents-11981408

Great thread! One of the more interesting threads on the forum at the moment. I know people get wound up if mainstream accepted ?truths? are questioned but I?m finding these ideas, views and questions far more interesting than the rest of the EDF threads currently (which are largely dominated by self righteous finger pointers)
-
Interesting (if unpopular) viewpoint from jimlad. I?d say you?ll get mobbed for expressing it but it?s good to question and have alternative perspectives It has got me thinking about how the government hasn?t banned the sale of cigarettes despite being the biggest health threat we have But anyways, this is maybe going off topic from the OP and I fear lindylou might report us!!!

It?s easy to judge from the comfort of your lovely garden I wonder what some people?s home lives are like that make them decide that a short sit in an open space is warranted
-
The point being that those with available outside space need to be kinder and stop finger pointing at those who choose to sit down in a park within a safe distance from others for a little bit. Not having outside space available (which the vast majority of East Dulwichers do) during this time is really harsh. As with most things, this lockdown is hitting the socially disadvantaged hardest.......and the judgements and scandal from people who have no need to sit in a park is really shameful.

Hands up who has a garden, balcony or outside space? Yep, thought so

I see that (and personally I'm not part of the finger-pointing, reporting of small businesses crew)but alcohol can be bought in supermarkets and general stores just like ice cream can.... and meat and fish for that matter The ice cream shop is operating completely in line with government legislation and so this thread is very unfair ???? Excellent question and makes a very solid point- if alcohol ok, why not ice cream? If Moxons and William Rose open, why not Oddonos? Some people eat meat, some people eat fish, some people drink alcohol and some people eat ice cream I'm with Cyclemonkey, the ice cream shop has broken no rule at all by opening If you choose not to go there then that's your choice, just as with the butchers and the fishmongers etc.......but for god's sake stop the finger pointing and reporting and leave the people alone to legitimately run their small business in accordance with government legislation Best of luck to them ctovey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Can anyone explain the logic of off licences being > 'essential'? -
Yes! Both myself and a family member had fraudulent activity on account in the past few weeks. I haven't used a local home delivery though. I wondered whether this kind of thing was up in general

What about people walking really, really fast? Like speed walking?! Were they built for a particular speed of moving along by foot only?! Folk just need to be considerate, whatever speed KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "..where it is stipulated that a pavement has been > constructed for use at a particular speed or > gait" > Well when the pavements around here were built it > was for people to walk on, surely. > And the roads were built for horse and carts.

I'm not a jogger personally but I'd love to know where you got your information about where it is stipulated that a pavement has been constructed for use at a particular speed or gait?! Who said a pavement is intended for walking not running? It's known as a footpath, not a walk path! lindylou Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So, why can't you run in a park. I don't know how to link a discussion thread properly......but please see this thread about teenagers in the Lounge section. Teenagers are targeted often but I don't want to repeat my response /forum/read.php?20,2108537 (Oh, looks like I've worked it out!)

Wild garlic in the area?

What roads do people live on that have wild garlic? I would love to come and collect if people have too much! -

Yes dimples, and it has been pointed out to you that there are complex reasons why a very small minority of teenagers might be hanging out. I hope those kids are ok (as I do anyone, young or old who are breaking social distancing rules because their home lives and mental health aren't as cushty as some on this forum). https://news.un.org/en/story/2020/04/1061282

I?m so fed up of teenagers getting judged and slammed all the time. If you knew what some of their home lives are like you would be less likely to judge. Maybe stop and think about what some of these kids go through at home. Maybe consider what their ?home? looks like and what they experience there. The vast majority of teenagers are at home, just like yours dimples, bravo you and yours. Of course some are simply flouting the rules because that?s what some teenagers (and adults) do. The rest are too at risk in their own home. Does it need to be spelt out why? Have a think about what the reality of going home actually means to far too many teenagers and then maybe keep your finger pointing indoors with your perfect family.
