  1. Did anyone spot this story in yesterday's Southwark News? A dog walker's pet took an interest in a zipped-up holdall last Saturday near Goose Green and the owner found eight puppies inside. Unbelievable that someone could do this to living creatures. They are staffie-crossbreed and are still too young to go to new homes but if you are interested in rehoming one go to www.bluecross.org.uk.
  2. I've never known such a dodgy pushchair but each to their own. All the front wheels on the bugaboos are like pushing them with the brakes on.
  3. Yes, you have to have a child already attending a school to get a place, it's not third or fourth on criteria.
  4. I don't know anything about Ducks/Dulwich Prep but reading your post it seems you are happy with where your son is at the moment? Why worry when he is only 3 years old? Reading your post it seems these two schools are in competition with each other? Reading an earlier post about the Villa in Camberwell, I suppose you have to accept the post at Ducks by the end of the month or lose a hefty deposit? Please let us know.
  5. ellenb, wouldn't your daughter be offered a place at the other school anyway, if you have two children there?
  6. Few years ago my girls wanted to try the Lush stuff but it quickly fizzled out like their bath bombs. I put a stop to it after having to spend double time cleaning the bath out. Very slimy and over-processed products in my view even though sometimes the smell is nice. On the other hand, I do love the Body Shop stuff and have done over the years (started off with their white musk products in the 80's) and love it now. They are a bit more expensive than your average shower gel/soap/perfume oils but are good quality and recently I do love their Moringa range and my girls do and they last a long while. During the past few months I've always got a voucher with my change saying ?10 of your next purchase when you spend ?25 and have stocked up with presents for xmas/birthdays but all of a sudden you have to spend ?30 to get the ?10 discount. I don't often wear mascara but when I do the only one that agrees with me is from the Body Shop.

  11. Otta please stop apologising for your links to the Daily Mail. If that's the only one you can find that's good then why not? This week in their health pages they brought up about pulmonary embollisms (blood clot on the lung) and not many people know that this is also pregnancy related. I know as I had one a day after I had my 3rd child (14 years ago) and although I know King's didn't pick up on it at the time, the care I received afterwards was second to none.

  14. But garnwba the fireworks the mayor has in London are not really in a residential area. My point is that couldn't the fireworks have been set off earlier, especially on a weekday. Asking me if it's different because it's Diwali doesn't come into it, as I know what Diwali is and when it is.

  16. I think the only thing would be to phone round all the people you know your mother-in-law would phone and warn them that she might be ringing them for the same reason she had rang before! This might lessen the complaints if they knew the situation. Notes won't help as the memory of reading the note goes within a couple of seconds. My Dad has Alzheimers. He would be very confused about using a telephone now to dial out but I know it is a thing about being left alone. My Dad can't be left on his own.
  17. Just heard another round of fireworks going off, first lot started 10.15 then another lot 10.20 now a third bout. Very loud coming from the Dog Kennel Hill area. Why can't people keep it early on a weekday? I'm a night person anyway so still up reading papers, doing paperwork, on EDF but it must be so annoying for families with young children.

  20. Well I for one can't wait to read my proper paper version at the end of a long day. Never read the on-line version though but things lead from there I suppose with twitter, facebook, etc. Don't do any of those so I'm stuck with my proper hard copy. Been reading it for 12 years now and you can't fault the 10 page health news every Wednesday, Amanda Platell column, Richard Littlejohn, Janet Street-Porter, the Questions and Answers page, coverage of sports. I could go on but don't want to upset people.
  21. Someone had to give it one last wheez, bang for 5 minutes tonight at 10.45!

  23. Malumbu you obviously don't read the Daily Mail for some reason, so what newspaper do you read?

  25. Diwali starts this Tues and runs for 5 days. Maybe they're getting earlier too.
