  1. Absolutely and I think any plans for a supporter-run club (which I'm in favour of) have to involve a major role for the local authority, in terms of both funding and enabling genuine long-term community involvement in the club. It's a model that works well across Europe, but alas in this country we see all clubs, big or small, as private businesses that stand or fall according to 'normal market principles'.
  2. Article in The Independent today about the planning appeal and the background to it. Meadow Residential/Partners don't come out of it looking good... "One of the country's most popular non-league clubs is at risk as the owners of its ground try to force through a controversial redevelopment. Southwark Council are trying to stop them and even senior club figures sympathise." http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/football-league/dulwich-hamlet-future-southwark-council-developers-champion-hill-green-dale-meadow-partners-gavin-a7994291.html

Some crossings have an automatic pedestrian phase, some don't. Near where I work there's the busy crossroads between Borough High St and Union St. That button does need pressing otherwise the lights miss out the pedestrian phase. Amazing how many people won't press the button and then wonder why it's taking ages to cross...

  5. Southwark Council have opened a consultation on the closure of the bridge on Camberwell Grove ? make your views known. I've put it on this thread as it seems relevant to the area. "Camberwell Grove bridge, near the junction with McNeil Road, has been closed to motor traffic since October 2016, due to structural failure. Repairs to the bridge will soon be completed by Network Rail, which will allow it to be reopened for small motor vehicles (under 3 tonne) with traffic lights allowing alternate one-way flows to cater for both north and south-bound traffic. Since the bridge has been closed, the council has heard from some residents who favour retaining the closure on a permanent basis, as well as some residents who wish to see it reopened as soon as possible, principally due to the impact of additional traffic on other residential roads in the area. However because it will make such an impact, the council wants to hear your views before taking a final decision on reopening the bridge. Please answer our online consultation here by 30 October." https://consultations.southwark.gov.uk/environment-leisure/camberwell-grove-bridge/consult_view/

  7. They'll be back ? they'll hunker down for a while out of view.
  8. Almost certainly a sparrowhawk, Sue. Looking to breakfast on your sparrows :-) Don't worry, the sparrows will be back.
  9. At Sainsburys, do your shopping and use the coins to pay in the self checkout machines ? no commission, though it might take you a while to feed the machine :-)
  10. 1-0 win tonight at Harrow Borough lifts Hamlet to 5th in the league. The improvement continues.
  11. I'm fairly sure that the station M&S will be a Simply Food rather than a Food Hall ? so sandwiches, snacks and drinks, rather than the larger range. I predict it will be hugely popular but won't take much business away from the Lordship Lane shop.

  13. The lease has, in fact, expired and the council and the property developers are currently involved in a legal dispute as to its continuance. The matter is meant to be resolved by the end of the year (at about the same time as the developers' planning appeal for the new stadium and flats), so I wouldn't expect anything to happen before then.

    Brexit View

Haha, that won't please the greedy burghers of Paris and Frankfurt. Sounds like it's got more to do with employing cheap drones than with Brexit.

  18. Linen-cotton shorts packed away until next year, corduroy* shirts brought out for use until next May. * Yeah, that's so 2015, but I've always been a sucker for the middle-aged dad look...
  19. Blimey, KK, I know it's Monday morning and all, but chin up... :-)

I really can't believe that the budgies are suffering.

I think the path being referred to is in fact the narrow one that goes from half way down the Green Dale cycle path / footpath to Abbotswood Rd by the side of the football ground. The main Green Dale cycle path feels much more used and safer than it did in the past ? mainly thanks to the number of cyclists using it these days. But it's the small footpath that's the issue.
