Exactly. For the record, I am all for promoting cycling at the expense of the motor car, but the Townley Rd / E Dulwich Grove junction episode showed how much a lobby that brings in cash can skew completely the best use of resources ? in that case, ?200,000 was p*ssed away just because there was a pot of Boris's money to be spent. For every well-meaning activist, there's someone else eager to get their hands on Other People's Money.

Walking's fine for my commute ? four miles and an hour and ten minutes door-to-door (ED to London Bridge) with a pleasant enough walk through the back streets of Cmaberwell and Walworth via three parks. I jump on the train if it's wet or too cold or too hot. I wish the pedestrian lobby was as vociferous as the cycling lobby, but I guess there's not so much cash in it ? perhaps shoe leather manufacturers could take up the cause.* * Unnecessary cynicism

I've stuck with Broadchurch, but last night's denouement was a dreadful letdown. As formulaic as Agatha Christie but with Scandi-noir pretensions.

The missus now scans all utility bills, big receipts etc and plonks them somewhere secure on 'the cloud', and the paper copies can be disposed of after a year or so (as there are occasions you need to provide recent proof of address).

Great 4-1 win at Merstham this evening ? and third-placed Leiston drew 2-2 at home, so Hamlet are up to third. Still very tight, though...

singalto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I thought there was a huge shortage of bees.. There's some evidence that the honeybee population in central London has increased to the point that there are regular shortages of food for them. City firms have put hives on their roofs to be 'green' with little thought about where the poor bees are going to go to get food. Planting lots of bee-friendly flowers would have been more 'green'.

Not to take sides, but it?s interesting that Charles Booth?s ?poverty map? of East Dulwich in 1900 shows a section of Whateley Road to be the only bit of East Dulwich classified as ?Very poor, casual. Chronic want.? Just one step up from the worst classification ? ?Lowest class. Vicious, semi-criminal.? Most of East Dulwich at that time was comfortably off but not well off. Of course, Booth and his researchers showed prejudices that we might find unacceptable these days, but it?s a fascinating map. And it?s worth looking at the notebooks too ? the local ED copper who accompanied the researcher is amusingly snobbish :-) https://booth.lse.ac.uk/map/16/-0.0784/51.4569/100/0

Saw a peregrine falcon flying over Green Dale fields last weekend. Someone else saw one yesterday. You can tell when a sparrowhawk or peregrine is in the vicinity as all the other birds shut up immediately :-)

Beautiful flowers being picked and walked on.

But that's not the same species as 'ramsons', the native UK wild garlic (not sure about Ireland). Foraging has had serious impacts on populations of ramsons ? Sydenham Hill and Dulwich woods, for example. -
Brilliant 2-0 victory away at Billericay Town in the return fixture this evening ? two first-half goals from Sekajja and Carew. Nice to stick one to the loadsamoney boys... Now up to 5th in the league.

Agree with Jeremy about Antic. They are clever about their food offering. The EDT is regular good standard but not great modern pub fare, given the huge range of other eating options on LL. The Catford Constitutional Club by contrast, is genuinely very good indeed ? in an area that's a bit of an eating-out desert.

What they did to the Grey Horse in Kingston still brings a tear to the eye.

I think Fullers are sympathetic to pubs that have a good reputation for beer ? when they took over the Doric Arch at Euston (formerly the Head of Steam) there were fears that they would reduce the range of ales available, but they've kept up the range and quality, so fair play to them.

I know, as I had a friend there. Similarly, I thought it was cheap point-scoring for some to point out (on social meeja, natch) that the PM was whisked away as if this showed some sort of cowardice rather than it being a crucial security matter for the head of government to be protected from danger. -
Excellent 3-0 win last night against Havant & Waterlooville. Now up to 6th in the league. Could possibly go 3rd after next Saturday's home game against Billericay Town.

It looks like a version of Century Gothic ? slightly condensed and with a longer arm on the G.
-
I believe so ? National Leagues North and South are OK, but if we ever got into the National League 'proper' it's not allowed. A small price to pay for glory :-)
-
Yeah, barring disaster we should get into the playoffs, but it's an advantage to finish as high as possible as 2nd play 5th, and 3rd play 4th, in the playoff semis.
-
Two ? one automatically and one from the next four in the playoffs.
-
4-2 win last night against Kingstonian. 7th in the table with four games in hand over three of the teams above us.

Agree ? many thanks indeed to the admins and techie geek type people.

Yes and no. Lordship Lane seems to support a thriving mix of places to eat out. Not all are going to suit everyone's tastes and if I want 'fine dining', I'll probably head for one of my favourite eateries in town rather than locally.
