former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?

Many thanks, James. -
New Southwark Form to request a CPZ now online

Jimlad48, your figure of a 60% increase in spaces is bollocks, quite frankly. I live 8 mins walk from ED station and I'd be hard pushed to identify more than a sprinkling of commuters - jamming the roads from 6am? Nonsense. -

When the Grove Vale CPZ was proposed a few years ago, it became clear that the parking capacity within the zone would drop, due to the need to paint clear parking spaces, corners, bays etc. It was also shown that most of the 'commuters' coming in and parking were working locally. Both good reasons among others for saying no to CPZs. -

James, further to the concerns about the fence going up by the football stadium, please could you ask of council officers the exact situation with regard to the road and path leading from Abbotswood Rd round the back of the stadium? Specifically: 1. What are the precise boundaries of Meadow Residential's property? 2. What is the status of the footpath? Is it a public right of way? 3. What is the status of the (presumably private) roadway? What access should be required for the electricity substation and the mobile phone masts, which are now cut off from vehicle access? -
This so-called compromise (ie, threaten all manner of nasty stuff and then row back a bit) is already dead in the water ? Southwark Council won't give Green Dale to them and the Supporters Trust has said that 'there can be no future for any development involving Meadow at Champion Hill'.

If the developers go through with their eviction threat, Dulwich Hamlet will be playing their remaining 'home' games this season at Tooting & Mitcham's ground. Traditional rivals they might be ("Thieves & Muggers"), but good on them.
-
I've PM'd you.

No, the club has no intention of building on Green Dale. If the council can help them stay where they are, they will be more than happy. And the council have always been opposed to building on Green Dale.

Things are moving fast.... Earlier this evening, council leader Peter John tweeted that the property developers had served notice of eviction on the club. But now this, on the agenda for the next LBS cabinet meeting on the 13th ? a really positive piece of news: "30.Acquisition of Champion Hill, Edgar Kail Way SE22 To approve the acquisition of land at the Champion Hill stadium site, Edgar Kail Way for the purposes as to part of the site of housing delivery and the associated funding requirement as set out in the closed version of this report. To authorise the director of regeneration to negotiate the purchase of the site and agree detailed heads of terms in line with the principal terms set out in the closed version of this report. From the Save Dulwich Hamlet Facebook page: "So here we go. The first of our supporter actions to help save Dulwich Hamlet Football Club will be a rally and March before the Worthing game at home on Saturday 17th March. We'll kick off at Goose Green in East Dulwich at 12.30pm. We'll make a song and dance, listen to a few speakers and then make the short noisy march to Champion Hill. Put it in your diaries. Much more to follow. We want everybody there. It's a protest but also a statement of what we are all about as a club. Bring your pink and blue colours, musical instruments, face paints, balloons and banners. It will be a family-friendly occasion so do bring the kids. Much more detail to follow over the next two weeks. Let's do this. Give us a follow over on Twitter - @savedhfc - and look out for news of a brand new website in the next few days."

A new group, Save Dulwich Hamlet, has been set up specifically to coordinate activities to help the club survive. There's a supporters' day of action planned for March 17th, when DHFC play Worthing at home. Here are the group's Facebook and Twitter details: https://www.facebook.com/SaveDHFC/

Well, some might argue that a far greater part of council expenditure should be collected locally to make them more accountable to the local electorate, so increased council tax might be a good thing. -
There's a little flock of stock doves around JAGS playing fields and the railway lines between East amd North Dulwich. They're like a posh version of the feral/London pigeon :-) There are also loads of redwings and fieldfares ? and blackbirds, thrushes and more ? coming in from Scandinavia and eastern Europe at the moment. Because of the strong cold north-easterlies, they're heading our way looking for food ? in mild years, they'd be going in the opposite direction.

I think the right of way is only a footpath, not legally anything wider. And yes, the council's immediate plan for the astroturf is to make it safe. Replacing it depends on the ongoing relationship with the club.

That reminds me of one of Viz comic's "Top Tips" many years ago: "Car owners! Why spend thousands of pounds on vanity plates? Simply spend ?15 and change your name to P878 FWT."

Snow! How are the buses and trains?

The 07.50 train was bang on time. -

According to the British Trust for Ornithology's report of an academic survey, "Are predators to blame for songbird declines?" "...There were a large number of positive associations between predators and prey, suggesting that predator numbers have largely increased as the amount of prey has increased. This is particularly the case for native avian nest predators (Great Spotted Woodpecker, Magpie, Jay and Carrion Crow). Although this largely exonerates these predators, as driving declines in the numbers of songbird species at a national level, it does not preclude individual predators having local effects." So it's an exaggeration to lay the blame at the door of jays, magpies etc. Most species declines in the UK in the last 50 or 60 years are due to loss of habitat and consequently food, shelter etc. Everything else (cats, local pollution, jays etc) is very much secondary.

Now seems to be fixed around here.

There is a service issue in the area that they are "working on". Typical - working from home because of the transport breakdown and now my colleagues really will think I'm skiving 😁

Anyone else's Virgin broadband down? We're near Dulwich Hospital.

East Dulwich station very slippery - take care!

The slope's been salted and gritted. I came back from London Bridge just now and it was fine. -
Just another hellish commuter day in SE London
BrandNewGuy replied to DulwichLondoner's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You'd need to take that up with them, because they're claiming it was on time.
