  2. Apologies for bumping this, but I'm hoping someone will have an answer. It's beyond frustrating... 3. As craigyby71 asked, is there any way to get post that I know is 'in the system' but they haven't even tried to deliver? It's something sent locally first class three weeks ago. Is there any point in turning up at the sorting office, giving my details and asking them to look?
  4. The full letter from the management team has now been put onto the official Ivy House Facebook page, so I think it's OK to copy it here: "You may be aware, either from trying to visit or through social media, that The Ivy House was closed on Sunday 30th September. For confidentiality reasons we aren't able to share the details of some staffing issues that came to our attention, but we want to say that we are now working with the staff involved to resolve them as soon as possible. As part of this process we engaged in a full day of discussions with staff and union representatives. The matter of zero hours contracts has been raised in the course of these discussions and you may be concerned to know our position. The Ivy House has always offered fixed hours contracts (in which we are obliged to offer a specified number of hours and the member of staff is obliged to work them). We have reiterated the option for staff to move to fixed hours contracts and we have explored ways to adopt a model which makes these a structural feature of our rostering process in future. Indeed we have offered to migrate all staff to a form of fixed hours contract subject to obtaining legal advice. These negotiations have not reached a resolution, which is disappointing, but the management committee is making every effort to reach an understanding with staff and we are awaiting a response from the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers? Union. Another subject that?s come up is our recognition of staff unions. We?d like to confirm that our staff handbook already states that we welcome union membership. We are still a relatively young project, and while the Ivy House has been successfully trading as a community pub for over five years now, we continue to encounter challenges such as this one, and to a certain extent we are still learning how to navigate them from the unique perspective of a social enterprise which should have both business responsibilities and community values for everyone involved. We expect recent events to generate a lot of debate and you are of course welcome to contact us to share your views. You can do this by either commenting here or using the [email protected] email address. If you?re holding an event with us then we?ll be in touch to confirm details. We'll let you know about any changes to opening hours via social media. With kind regards, All of us on the Ivy House Management Committee"
  5. Received a shareholder's letter last night from the management team explaining the situation. I won't quote all of it, but the following clears up a few points: "For confidentiality reasons we aren't able to share the details of the issues that came to our attention, but we want to reassure you that we are working with the staff involved to resolve them as soon as possible. As part of this process we have engaged in a full day of discussions with staff and union representatives today. Indeed we have offered to migrate all staff to a form of fixed hours contract subject to obtaining legal advice. These negotiations have not reached a resolution, which is disappointing, but the management committee is making every effort to reach an understanding with staff and we are awaiting a response from the union."
  6. This on Twitter from @ivyhouseunion earlier today: "Four members of staff at the Ivy House Nunhead were fired on Wednesday without reason, notice or investigation. This is unethical employment practices and we will strike until they are reinstated! #savetheivyhouse" And just now on Facebook: "WILDCAT ACTION HAPPENING NOW AT THE IVY HOUSE IN SOUTH LONDON! Calling for re-instatement of victimised union members. When Ivy house staff put in a request for union recognition, 5 [sic] members of staff were fired. Today they stand up and demand those jobs back! Come stand with the Ivy House members!" Can anyone give any more detail than this? As an Ivy House community shareholder, I find this very troubling if it's true, though maybe we're only hearing one side of it.
  7. Utilities and developers are always going to be treated differently to artists :-)
  8. One compromise suggestion might be terminating the 40 at London Bridge. It's only five stops beyond E&C but would make a big difference to those travelling to the City.
  9. Painting the two 'inner' walls to be visible from the road would entail shutting the road, which I imagine wouldn't be possible for a project like this. In Herne Hill etc, the pavement is wide enough for safety purposes.
  10. This was covered on the forum a month or so ago but the search function is so crappy I can't find it... Here's the relevant part of TFL's consultation: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/32943d3b/ Effectively, the journey to London Bridge will be in two legs with a change at Elephant. TFL propose to increase the frequency of the No. 35 to take up the slack. This isn't ideal, but TFL argue that demand is down on many of these routes and, with the new Hopper fare, it won't impact users financially. And this is only a further example of the long-term trend of breaking down long routes into shorter ones to take into account different demand on different sections of the journey. For instance, the No. 12 used to run all the way to Shepherds Bush.
  11. The suggestion is that many of not most of these cats were killed or injured in road accidents. At which point a fox might well get involved.
  12. Yes, I'm still waiting for a First Class packet posted on the 12th too. Got a whole bunch of other post today though, much of it posted up to two weeks ago.
  13. ... and good on our MP for such a to-the-point letter. Let's hope some action results from it.
  14. Don't worry, the football club wasn't "sold off". It's in good hands, it just needs to get back to its rightful home ? which it will. The property developers in this case lost their gamble.

But no-one who's genuine comes round your house and asks for money. It doesn't make you callous never to give money to door-to-door strangers. And the more 'kind' people get suckered, the more the scumbags will carry on.
  16. Problem: someone you don't know is at the door asking for money. Solution: don't give them any.

A 'tonne'?? What's wrong with a good old British 'ton'? 2,240 honest British pounds. Not your namby-pamby, continental 1,000 kilos nonsense. Bet the Dutch use 'tonne' all the bleedin' time...
  18. "The Dutch, the Dutch, I hate them worse than dogs. They live in windmills And mince around in clogs. They don't have any manners, They don't say 'thanks' or 'please', All they eat is tulips And stinking gouda cheese..."
  19. John was a local legend and was rightly the cover 'star' of the first issue of the "Dulwich Diverter" newspaper two and a half years ago. At the paper's launch party (I write the crossword for it), he and I had a big chat, mainly about late 60s West Coast music as he was wearing a Moby Grape t-shirt in the photo on the front of the paper. Lovely man and he'll be much missed.
  20. Good news ? and confirmed on Twitter by Penge's Southey Brewing, who also run the Brighton Beer Dispensary: https://southeybrewing.co.uk/
  21. If Forest Hill's OK, what about SE15? I'll give another shout for Ganapati, please :)
  22. ... take them down to a 'home' game at Tooting. It's good fun :-)
  23. Almost certainly not this season. Even if Meadow were to cave in suddenly and let the club play there on acceptable terms, the pitch is in a right state and would take months to get up to standard. Think next season at the earliest ? which is a shame, but the club will survive and it will return.
