  1. But in the Mail's defence (blimey, I never thought I'd write that), Dacre was a staunch supporter of Stephen Lawrence's family and their quest for justice and the Mail was the paper that named those who were allegedly responsible as 'murderers'. That couldn't have pleased the Mail's more unpleasant base. One reason for Dacre's line, though, was that he knew Stephen's father, who'd done some decorating for him.
  2. I'm up for it. And never been to Omrith, so happy to give it a go.
  3. James, I was questioning the idea that it's people driving in from miles away to take advantage of cheaper fares. The 'commuters' are far far more likely to be people who are a. working locally or b. only live half a mile away and are being a bit lazy. We are 7 mins walk from ED station and have parking spaces all day long.
  4. Because it's public highway. It's not yours.

The proposed Grove Vale CPZ consultation malarkey showed this as negligible ? in any case, a Zone 3 travelcard costs you just ?20 more a month than a Zone 2 one. Zone 4 is ?55 more, but is someone really going to drive from Penge, say, in the rush hour to save themselves less than ?3 a day in fares?
  6. I wouldn't want to miss London's "shows, restaurants, culture and 'buzz'" for pretty much anything. I can put up with a (fairly easy) commute and all the noise, bother and nonsense.
  7. More good news on the pitch - Hamlet won 3-0 at Needham Market to stay top. Title favourites, moneybags Billericay, got trounced 4-1 at Hendon.
  8. That's a poor first question: "1. Do you, or your visitors, find parking where you live difficult? Yes - all the time Yes - Monday to Fridays Yes - weekends only No never" What about 'Sometimes, but it doesn't unduly bother me'? I guess I'll just go for "No never"
  9. 0/10.
  10. Just to confirm I'm up for the 29th at Surma.
  11. Indeed, but I think you'll find that 2wans is an old EDF troll in new clothing :-)
  12. It's an improvement given that Meadow only a couple of weeks said they weren't going to speak to anyone. And if they reject Southwark's next bid, the government has said that they'll appoint an independent mediator to go in ? which is more of a threat to Meadow's position than the Council's. So it's slow progress.
  13. Meadow spoke with Southwark Council on Monday (which is at least a start) and the following was reported on Twitter by The Independent's football correspondent: Update: Meadow told Southwark at the meeting today that their stance remains the same. Next step is for Southwark to submit a written offer, but don't expect it to be accepted...
  14. The EDF is like Private Eye ? it's never been as good as it used to be...
  15. Excellent 3-0 win at a freezing Tooting & Mitcham ground this afternoon. Great atmosphere and an attendance of 840. Gone back up to the top of the league, although Billericay still have five games in hand.
  16. Hamlet boss Gavin Rose looks to sign a top-flight left winger...

Agreed the model might be bust, but the boom for ordinary people was not mythical. The rise in real incomes between the 50s and the late 70s was real and made real differences to ordinary people's lives. The same can't be said of the last 30 years for those on the lowest incomes.

Suggests very poor timing. And as others have pointed out, there is little evidence of other agents who'd been involved in 'spy swaps' being bumped off ? an unwritten rule of spy swaps during the Cold War was not to pursue them after the swap.
  20. Well, there's a thing. Can't see how the timing of this can do anything other than fuel the conspiracy theorists. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-43405686
  21. Wait a minute, you're near Peckham Rye station? That's had parking pressure for years. Most of East Dulwich doesn't have 'parking chaos'. And if I'm a 'hater' I think that gives me the right to call you a 'snowflake'.
  22. jimlad48 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Most car commuters could and should use public > transport like others do. Clearly not something you believe in for yourself. Finding a parking space is only a 'nightmare' if you're driving all the time.
  23. Jimlad48, your figure of a 60% increase in spaces is bollocks, quite frankly. I live 8 mins walk from ED station and I'd be hard pushed to identify more than a sprinkling of commuters - jamming the roads from 6am? Nonsense.
  24. When the Grove Vale CPZ was proposed a few years ago, it became clear that the parking capacity within the zone would drop, due to the need to paint clear parking spaces, corners, bays etc. It was also shown that most of the 'commuters' coming in and parking were working locally. Both good reasons among others for saying no to CPZs.
