  3. They did ? it was my first game at Champion Hill. They lost 1-0.
  4. The 'law changes' are the very welcome ones that try to stop them from ruining vulnerable people's finances and lives with their fixed odds betting terminals. Good riddance, I say. If there were to be a Waitrose on either of those sites, surely it would on the 'Little Waitrose' model, though as ed_pete points out, still very handy for having John Lewis stuff delivered locally for free.
  5. Well, it was a William Hill, which didn't exactly add sparkle and vibrancy.

There's one on Upland Rd / Hindmans Road next to the corner shop
  7. Hmmm, Millwall fan... in East Dulwich... not tall... likes a drink? It's Foxy! ;)
  8. Yes, in fact that tree split and toppled over last year. The council then tidied it up and I was glad they didn't remove it entirely. Its sibling weeping willow next to the road is looking fabulous.
  9. You might want to watch this excellent little film (and the others in the series) about gentrification / regeneration in Peckham. It gives a more nuanced view from long-term residents than some of the ones on display on this thread:
  10. I've only been to a 'chain' Bill's and it was poor ? bland food, small portions and painfully overpriced. Decor's friendly, I s'pose... Style over substance.
  11. goldilocks posted that Dulwich Tandoori was 'empty'. It's not. It's full most nights :)
  12. I just have fish from Emily's, which is fine.
  13. Yes, they only come here to breed. Extraordinary birds... "Youngsters are independent as soon as they leave the nest, and set out immediately on migration. Swifts start their return journey in mid July, before nights become too cool. They can?t roost overnight during the journey, like swallows do, so they travel quickly. One young swift that left its UK nest on 31 July, was found in Madrid (Spain) on 3 August." https://www.rspb.org.uk/birds-and-wildlife/natures-home-magazine/birds-and-wildlife-articles/migration/migratory-bird-stories/swift-migration/
  14. I think the swifts are now on their way back to Africa. It's extraordinary that they only spend about three months here, coming all this way to breed and then return. Amazing birds.
  15. No, Meadow haven't nabbed the astroturf. It's owned by Southwark Council (who took back the lease from Meadow last year) and currently leased to the football club. DHFC and Meadow have put in a 'joint' planning application covering both the housing on the current ground's plot and a stadium for Green Dale. For full info, here's the thread: /forum/read.php?5,2011806 And here's the planning application (as yet not validated, ie no dates with regards to decisions, responses etc): https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9583549&activeTab=summary When I've had time to digest it, I'll post my responses on the other thread. 16. Services are back to normal
  17. A trackside fire near Queens Rd Peckham has meant all trains through ED are cancelled
  18. The DHFC / Meadow planning application for a new stadium and housing is now online on Southwark's planning site, but it hasn't been validated yet, so there are no dates with regard to responses, decision deadlines etc: https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=_STHWR_DCAPR_9583549&activeTab=summary
  19. There are hedgehogs on Green Dale fields and around Dog Kennel Hill Wood. But they're very elusive :)
  20. They're pussycats really, Foxy :)
  21. Stag beetles spotted earlier today on Green Dale fields, so they're out and about for the breeding season. They look fierce but are harmless. They're also pretty crap at flying and walking, so if you see one stranded on a pavement or the road, please pick it up and pop it somewhere safe. They're quite comon round here but nationally they're rare. The larvae feed on dead wood (usually below ground), so if you can leave a small woodpile in the corner of the garden to rot down, the stags will be most grateful :)
  22. Good news. According to Southwark News, Rye Lane will reopen by June 8th. The works have finished months ahead of schedule. "Rye Lane should be open to traffic by Saturday, June 8, after gas engineering work was completed months ahead of schedule. Gas company SGN said the mains work that led the Peckham road?s closure since the beginning of January had been completed and its team were now reinstating the road. Pipes in better condition than expected and new techniques all helped speed up the replacement work originally planned until January 2020. Currently Rye Lane is closed to cars, buses and cyclists between Hanover Park and Sternhall Lane with a diversion via Hanover Park and Consort Road, and temporary traffic lights in place near Copeland Road. SGN general manager, Drew Reynolds, said: ?We?re pleased to announce that we?ve completed the final engineering work ahead of schedule and we?ll be able to safely reopen Rye Lane to motorists and public transport after a period of reinstatement. ?We?d like to thank residents, traders, shoppers and road users for their continued patience and understanding while we?ve carried out this essential work to ensure the Peckham community can enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come."" https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/rye-lane-due-to-reopen-to-traffic-on-june-8/?fbclid=IwAR0sbjYuxiobIh6kdS4mEX0OMc-Bg1pa0HnDTeCXXVBEyjmVr87bT7lenk8 Let's hope TfL get the message and reinstate the buses currently on diversion.
  23. Changing at Elephant is probably the quickest option. 176, 40 or 12 to Elephant, then 35 or 133 to London Bridge and the City.
  24. se22cat Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Disgusting how many UKIP voters there were, I > expect better of ED. Er, these were the results for all of Southwark not just ED. And UKIP got 1.4% of the vote, which was not quite double the votes for the Animal Welfare Party. So pretty crap really.
  25. Robert Carder (formerly John Bennett) is a good shoe shop on Lordship Lane. Not sure two shoe shops would thrive.
