The third runway's been given the go-ahead.

I think I'm with Peter Tatchell. Here's a closer analogy I think: a white baker refuses to make a cake for two black customers which says "Support Black Lives Matter" on it. Is the baker guilty of race discrimination? I don't think so ? after all, it's perfectly possible to be black and be vehenmently opposed to Black Lives Matter. In the same way, it's perfectly possible to be gay and opposed to gay marriage. What if it had been two gay bakers who were anti-gay marriage and who refused to make the cake...?

Peter Tatchell has changed his mind about the case: "There was never an intention that this law should compel people to promote political ideas with which they disagreed." https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/feb/01/gay-cake-row-i-changed-my-mind-ashers-bakery-freedom-of-conscience-religion

Tiny Little Things That Cause You Irrational Rage

To be fair, Foxy, bhaji/bhajee is a word with several acceptable variants. And if you're getting a print job done, you'll see a proof in order to correct it. Then get a new proof. If that's correct, then any mistake is the printer's problem and you're within your rights to ask them to do the job again. -
Bird of prey in Burgess Park

The mobbing can happen to any bird of prey. I've seen a gang of crows mobbing a merlin, which is better armed but about half a crow's size ? and would never predate a crow. And I've seen blackbirds mobbing a buzzard, which is considerably bigger. It's those hooked beaks they don't like :-) -

Recording TV shows on my Virgin Media box which cut off before the end of the show. Why?! I thought the days were long gone when you had to program your video recorder with the start and end times you wanted, in the hope that the previous show didn't overrun. After that there was then the sensible system with a unique code for each show so that it recorded it all automatically regardless of overruns. But now we seem to be back to the 'dark ages'. Grrr! -
They're in the process of rescuing the brewery, I believe. The Late Knights bars (Beer Rebellion etc) are still trading as before.

I walked through Burgess Park this morning and a kestrel flew right over my head, so I suspect this was the chap. A male with lovely chestenut brown wings and back. The local crows didn't seem too upset by his presence. -

Yeah, I suspect they'll move in further along the M4 and M40 corridors. Much further in than that and they'll have problems finding nesting sites. Hundreds of years ago they were all over the city as scavengers and were known as sh*tehawks :-) -
Nice to see Hamlet old boy Erhun Oztumer doing so well. Two cracking goals yesterday for Walsall.

Unusual that you saw it cycling ;-) It was probably a kestrel ? they're sometimes seen over Peckham Rye Common and Green Dale too ? but it could be a young peregrine. I've recently seen a pair of youngsters flying around the Salvation Army College tower at Denmark Hill. At this time of year, their parents are kicking them out of the family home, so to speak, so young peregrines can be seen around and about, looking for new territory. Greater London now has about 40 breeding pairs, so space is getting limited. B*oody housing crisis! :-) -
Another win ? 2-0 ? and up to fifth in the league.

Looks like Southwark aren't alone in seeing retialers as easy prey in this regard. This article claims Croydon are looking to charge retailers ?1500 pa to have things on the pavement. https://southnorwoodtouristboard.com/2016/10/22/is-croydon-council-using-smoke-mirrors-to-keep-the-public-in-the-dark-concerning-economic-policies-which-appear-to-compliment-the-greed-of-landlords-whilst-transparency-is-not-the-order-of-the/ -

Yeah, those trains just crawl into London Bridge. I could easily beat that 13-minute journey in my car... -
Yeah ? 3-1. Another home game on Saturday, against Sudbury.

I agree with most of your tin-hat post, but there's plenty of evidence to suggest that being smarter than your colleagues is not necessarily very good for your career: https://aeon.co/essays/you-don-t-have-to-be-stupid-to-work-here-but-it-helps "Smart young things joining the workforce soon discover that, although they have been selected for their intelligence, they are not expected to use it. They will be assigned routine tasks that they will consider stupid. If they happen to make the mistake of actually using their intelligence, they will be met with pained groans from colleagues and polite warnings from their bosses. After a few years of experience, they will find that the people who get ahead are the stellar practitioners of corporate mindlessness."

Thames Water therefore recommend the following condition be imposed: Development should not be commenced until: Impact studies of the existing water supply infrastructure have been submitted to, and approved in writing by, the local planning authority (in consultation with Thames Water). The studies should determine the magnitude of any new additional capacity required in the system and a suitable connection point. Reason: To ensure that the water supply infrastructure has sufficient capacity to cope with the/this additional demand." This is a process that should happen with every new development ? and the developer should pay.

That image in the Londonist link is hi-res, so you could get a print shop to pop it onto an A2 sheet for you. Though that would be wrong, obviously...

Buckets Of Rain. Deceptively simple, but extraordinarily powerful and moving. Every word and note in the right place.

Indeed. Lots of bookshops bemoan the fact that, for many people, they're a three-dimensional browsing space for Amazon.
