  1. And another question :-) Can you find out why the revised Townley Road / EDG consultation hasn't started yet? The timetable was already quite tight, so days lost are important. Many thanks.
  2. Well, that's one day of the three-week consultation gone without a whisper from the Council.
  3. I didn't say lights would have prevented it. And no, a green light across EDG would not have given the truck priority as it was turning from LL. But my comment about the width of EDG is relevant ? a large lorry will automatically cut the corner there, with exactly the danger you point out.
  4. But at busy times, it's often only possible to turn left out of EDG when the lights across Lordship Lane are red anyway. Add lights across the end of EDG and a pedestrian phase and you'll solve the safety issue. As far as causing slower traffic, it's probably TFL that need their minds changing, as they seem to be reluctant to make any changes that might slow down traffic on bus routes in particular. This seems not to be relevant to the shocking accident this morning, but it's a nasty junction altogether, for vehicles and pedestrains ? the sight lines into abd out of Lordship Lane are poor and it's interesting someone mentioned that the road was 'too narrow'. It certainly 'feels' that way.

Agreed. The highly hopped and strong American IPAs need both some chilling and carbonation to cut through the inevitable heaviness of an ale that's 7%, say. I've tasted cask ales that attempt these strengths and characters - and they're way too sweet/full, despite the hoppiness.
  6. The Chinese place on the Cut that Seabag mentioned is good and cheap ? New Culture Revolution.
  7. The new consultation for the revised plan is due to start today. Nothing on Southwark's website yet, though at least they've removed the old consultation from 'current' consultations. Holding my breath here...
  8. +1 for Masters Super Fish. And La Barca near the corner of Lower Marsh and Waterloo Road is a good Italian.
  9. Love the Royal Oak. They have great home-cooked food too. Fond memories of a very long office Xmas lunch there and an evening involving the landlady of another SE1 boozer joining the landlord on a table, belting out "Suspicious Minds"...

Took the edge off the nice > beer experience. Some people enjoy drinking cocktails on top of a piss-smelling multi-storey car park in Peckham. Takes all sorts ;-) FWIW I love The Rake. Only five minutes from work and always a friendly welcome. It's fair to say they always warn people if the beer is 'pricey'. And, as been pointed out, there's always a decent ale on for under four quid.
  12. Largely agree with Blah Blah, but disagree about Farage. He's been mocked at least as much as the other party leaders, surely? Maybe not so much by the sympathetic papers, but then Red Ed hasn't been mocked by The Mirror or The Grauniad either.
  13. Maybe it should, but funding for it was coming from the developer, which we were assured would be fine. We'll see.
  14. James, over on the Railway Rise development thread, there's been mention of the old garden centre site development stalling. Please can you clarify that this will not affect the development of the new library and that the Council will not shut or run down Grove Vale Library until a new library opposite is up and running?
  15. ... which will help give the Council the excuse to shut Grove Vale Library and not open a new one on the old garden centre site as planned because the development has stalled. As I mentioned to Cllr Barber a while ago, the new library is by no means a done deal.

It's not a referendum people are asking for, it's an end to phoney 'consultations' which are no such thing. If they did what they wanted without consultation at least it would have the virtue of not being hypocritical. > There are bound to be competing interests and in > this instance you appear to feel that your > interests are losing out. I don't know if you're addressing this to me, but I haven't expressed opposition to it. I merely pointed out that the Council will have no intention of enforcing the new speed limit. FWIW I think A roads and B roads in cities should be 30mph and all other roads 20mph, though you might feel I callously ignore the lives of pedestrians by doing so. I'll continue to speak out on issues I feel are of importance to me, my family and my local area. If you don't mind, of course.
  17. Well, that was an intemperate little rant. Personally I think we should be vigilant about what those we elect into power do. That's democracy, innit?

I'm not even sure they want to make it work. It's idle wish-fulfilment. By putting the restriction in place they can tick some boxes to make themselves look eco without actually doing anything to enforce it or spending any money once the iniital signage is in place. It's greenwash / safetywash.
  20. Loved the story. A small gallery well worth visiting is the Borough Road Gallery in South Bank University. It's dedicated to the work of David Bomberg, a great but much neglected artist: http://www1.lsbu.ac.uk/w2/boroughroadgallery/
  21. Bwahaha! I thought Southwark's consultation process was pretty bogus, but Harris take the biscuit. First two questions of the 'consultation': "The aim of the new school is to prepare its children for happy lives and academic success. Do you agree that this is a suitable aim? ❑ Yes ❑ No The new school will encourage children in work and in play, towards the traditional values of good manners, enthusiasm for learning and recognising right from wrong. Do you agree that this is a suitable ethos? ❑ Yes ❑ No" This is not a consultation, it's pathetic PR.
  22. It's the modern use of 'junk mail' that conflates things. As previously understood, 'junk mail' was unsolicited addressed mail, eg Reader's Digest prize draws etc. The Mail Preference Scheme should ensure you don't receve these. And you can sign up with the Royal Mail not to receive unaddressed flyers. Not that I'm a fan of 'junk mail', but I don't understand why it's uniquely picked out as being 'wasteful'. What about the amount of energy and resources that go into TV advertising, billboards and other forms of unsolicited marketing? Printing up pizza leaflets could be seen as pretty modest by compmarison.
  23. Robert Poste's Child Wrote: > Despite the 'no junk mail' sign, shoved, but only > part-way, through my door each month. This causes > five things to happen: 'No junk mail' signs cause me not exactly irrational rage but mild irritation. Flyers, pizza menus, leaflets and free magazines unaddressed are not 'mail'. If something has been posted through the mail (ie direct mail advertising) the postman is obliged to deliver it regardless of what signs you put up.
