naps/feeding question - advice reeeally needed
snowboarder replied to hellosailor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We are in a similar pickle - stupidly enough for the second time - which is annoying - but I have no clue how you can spend time trying to settle a young baby when you have a 2 yr old who has both a busy social schedule and who bundles around the house making too much noise when you try to get baby to sleep. Or he hangs off my leg. Sorry know this is not useful...just as comment... I seriously have no idea how you 'settle' a young baby other than feed/rock or push to sleep. Mine is never 'drowsy' - he's either asleep or awake and angry. -

Another Tripp Trapp question please
snowboarder replied to Fi from West Dulwich's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Re what to buy - Fi depends how runaway he is these days!! We are still squidging Z into the baby set, but it IS a squeeze and I have to take his shoes off to get him in!! The great thing is once in there is no way he can escape.... -
You probably all think I'm mad having had so many 'expensive' prams. Thing is, I used to buy handbags and clothes. Now not so much (at all) so I have prams. I have used 2 of my prams already today, same almost every day. I think it's a bit mean to be sneery about people spending money on them - god it's sometimes a bit of a lonely/stressful job being a mum - whatever cheers you up!! Also - people like me mean that others can snap up bargains on the forum....:-)

Birthday presents for 5 y o girl
snowboarder replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
This kitchen is quite cool - wooden and not too expensive. My son liked playing with it at a friends the other day. -
AH prams!! Just on baby no. 2 and have had 6 prams so far (this is a bit shameful but they have all been/are very useful!!). With baby 1 we had an icandy apple (like chameleon) from birth and agree with others that it's nice to have the carrycot when they are little and forward/rear facing seat options, and airfilled tyres. Was super comfy for me and baby and a big shopping basket underneath. We later got a maclaren quest (lovely and light) and also had a babyjogger city mini - we travelled to Australia when baby was quite small and didn't want to take the icandy, but needed sthg more than a maclaren. The sunshade on the babyjogger is amazing but it is forward facing only. Had a brief flirtation with the micralite but it didn't fit in our car boot and husband kept kicking the back wheels when walking. We now have a phil and teds for toddler plus baby 2, and a bugaboo bee for solo trips with new baby and keep it in the car - you can clip the car seat onto the frame which is useful for me atm as seem to be whizzing toddler all over the place. I coveted the bee for ages - had pram envy - and wished that was what I had got originally. But...now I have it - it is great almost in every way but it is REALLY clattery/rickety I think - compared to the p&t and icandy which have airfilled tyres - was in dulwich pk with it the other day and it was just so noisy. But I do think that is the only negative - it's lovely and light, folds easily, forward and rear facing, takes a car seat and takes a buggy board. Phew. I had a life once....

Center Parcs - what is it really like?
snowboarder replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Has anyone been to any of the center parc-a- likes? Was thinking about a couple of days at the fabulously named Sandy Balls in the new forest in June - combining a trip to peppa pig world (oh how holidays have changed!!). Anyone been? (sorry to change subject a bit) -
Making the most of an elective c-section
snowboarder replied to Zo?'s topic in The Family Room Discussion
Are you able to control/request what time the operations is? With my first (elective) the baby was born around midday and this seemed to mean I was stuck immobile with catheter etc all that day and night which was just awful. This time ('emergency'...but not really if you know what I mean) took place v early in the morning so was able to shower and sort self out early evening - which made that first night on own with new baby so much more cope-able with! I did find that I had to just get going far more quickly with boisterous toddler than first time - but at 4 are they better behaved? I had to hoist mine in and out of cot and do bath etc really quickly - before I should have actually - and my wound has taken much longer to heal and needed course of antibiotics - nice - so be careful!! Look forward to hearing how it goes - good luck!! -
Advice please for 3 week old napping problem
snowboarder replied to mrs f's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have to say I do find the 'on demand' bf concept quite hard even second time round - as my little one could hang out snacking and comfort sucking and short snoozing all day if he could - which is just not useful when you have a toddler/stuff to do/want to get out etc - so I kind of loosely do a bit of both - have a sort of 1.5 - 4ish hr schedule and try to make sure baby has around 5/6 feeds during the day and that they are a proper feed rather than a snack which will hopefully result in a better sleep...but if not and there's screaming 2 hrs in (or we need to get out and don't want to feed whilst out) then I'll feed again no prob. -
Advice please for 3 week old napping problem
snowboarder replied to mrs f's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The trouble is if they don't sleep well then they don't feed well....and so on (this has been my day today too with baby sb and I've fed him about 5 million times and he's fallen asleep each time for about 10 mins than alternately grinned and shouted at me....). I also don't have any particular advice on the nap situation as neither toddler nor new 9 wk old were/are great sleepers and nor did I establish much of a routine in the early days with no. 1....my only advice similar to above would be don't worry too much at the moment - more regular feeds and baby having lovely cuddly sleeps on you at 3 weeks by no means precludes more order as they get older. I'm loving the cuddles so much this time round (when demon toddler doesn't attack us both!) and although I sometimes think GAH I'm doing it all wrong AGAIN...then I look at the snoozing warm baby on my lap and think oh whatever...I'll sort it later but he won't always want to sleep on my lap!! -
Looking for pre-school from 2 yrs
snowboarder replied to Vangough's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Buds? Dulwich village pre school? They are both from 2... -
Huh had forgotten how annoying late early morning feeds are. Baby fed at 4.30am and now happily snoozing next to me. I'm awake and no hope of sleep now as light and head spinning with organising the day ahead. Toddler will be awake soon anyway. Moan, moan.... Sack that. Toddler just shouted 'out, out'. Think again, kiddo, you're staying right where you are until at least 6am.... Anyone else 'up'?

Is anyone up to speed on breast pumps? I bought a philips avent electric one a couple of years ago for baby 1 - used intermittently (he never actually took a bottle!). Got it out to look at it the other day for baby 2 - but it looks a bit like it needs a massive clean. Then I got freaked out after consulting google - open and closed systems? And potential for mouldy old milk to be invisibly present in pump? So - do you need to buy new for new baby? Or will a good clean suffice? You obv cant clean the actual mechanism very well though...

I looked at all the lovely timber wendy houses and tree houses etc....and then decided I was buying them for me not little snowboarder!! Just ordered him one of the plastic little tikes ones so we don't have to worry about weathering/splinters/putting it up....and seeing as all he generally wants to do is open and shut the window shutters hopefully it should do the job! I've given in to the whole plastic overload thing...

I've used an ironing service before - was charged per bag. My new baby 'treat' from my husband was a few extra hours of our cleaner and she does some ironing for us now - so pay on a time basis. Def something I'd be interested in!
