  4. we had a look in john lewis. one thing i would say is to look at whats available before you go, so you have a vague idea of what size etc you are after. we had 3 we wanted to look at and my brain was full after that!
  5. i second the penge shop, and they will advise you on quantities etc. my sister and i made a big red bus one year and it was time consuming but very worth it! also go to a bookshop and have a browse of the kids cakes books to see how they do stuff you can get lots of good ideas that way.
  6. i cant make it but the gardens cafe (the old electrical shop) have a playroom at the back with tables and a sofa in it. you might be able to reserve it in advance? there is a thread on here about it being not nice now but i go there every few weeks with my sister and her two kids and we like it. good cakes (choose from what looks nice on the table) and good selection of drinks, service can be a bit slow. otherwise i was going to suggest the back of Green and blue though not sure its best for kids to run around in - lots of tables in the way!!
  7. have you seen there are a few second hand on ebay? we have a second hand one too and all fabric pieces are machine washable - its come up really well.
  8. also 'room' is good and i quite liked 'my last duchess' although i cant decide if its a bit chick lit or not
  9. we had a very greedy cat for a while who was always on the bench (would rip into packaging to eat donuts, croissants, and oh yes my chicken tikka masala along with other things) we used to fill shallow trays with water and put them on the work surface just out of sight from below. the theory was that she would jump up and get wet paws which they of course hate. there is no way of being sure that its worked though and obviously only practical when you arent using the kitchen...
  10. Hello, dulwich fusion do a couple but the evening classes are not happening due to lack of instructor (this may have now changed - i went in and asked a few weeks ago now) they suggested i go to peckham pulse which is part of the same group i think which do loads more classes.
  11. im due to start antenatal pilates at push studios on thursday. and dulwich therapy rooms have a lot of antenatal yoga classes if you def want to go the yoga route! there are loads of classes if you are able to go during the day too.
  12. Hello, I am due 20th Nov. I will PM my email address, although i cant make the 17th - hope you all have fun and i'll join you for the next one. A
  13. there is a great cake shop in putney too - i cant think of the name - cake craft maybe? if you need anything same day.
  14. Forgewood in Tonbridge Wells is really good. try to camp in the woods rather than on the field - its lovely!
  15. hey i sucked my thumb on and off until i was 11, and my teeth are fine. i think get her teeth checked and advice from an orthodontist and if he thinks her teeth are developing ok then maybe just leave her to quietly give up when she is ready. if he is worried then he might be able to advise on methods for her to stop eg transferring the comfort-factor to a blanket. im pretty sure my younger brother still sucks his thumb in his sleep if very very tired (or drunk - he is in his twenties) and his teeth are fine too. i dont remember why i sucked my thumb - just remember that it was something i liked to do and didnt see why i should stop!
  16. just to say that at least 2 of those vans are owned by residents.
  17. if you want a decent treatment, you could try Relax. they have opened a new one in covent garden. i havent been to that one but go monthly to one of the others and all the beauticians are well trained and worth the cash!
  18. sure, do you want to PM me your email address and i will email it to you. (its on my phone so not sure how to post it here)
  19. hi, i made a teddy bear cake for my nephew and it just uses 2 x round tins and 2 x cupcakes (well 4 as inevitably i ate some). basically you make 2 large round cakes, then you take a side plate and stick it upside down on one of the cakes and cut around it leaving a 'crescent moon' of cake left over. the big circle is the body and the small circle is the head. the 'crescent' that is left is meant to do arms and legs but i found it too small - possibly used too big a plate. so i used it for arms only and then stuck 2 upside down cupcakes on his belly to be feet. which i liked better. then jaffa cakes on feet and hands if it works. can send you a pic if you think you might be up for this 'cobbled together' version but i promise it looked very nice and tasted even better with melted chocolate frosting! i have a picture of hthe pattern somewhere. let me know if you want it. also, the best cake recipe i have found for shaped cakes is the Nigella 'birthday cake' recipe in how to be a domestic goddess. it holds its shape well without being too heavy. and is really delicious, as its quite plain so it helps cut the icing overload of all the decoration!!! let me know if you want any details.
  20. sorry to hear this. there is a support group which i think is affiliated with AA called Al-Anon and its for people who are affected by other peoples drinking. that might be a good place for you to get support and advice.
