  1. I had meter readers round (Southside East Dulwich) about a fortnight ago on Saturday morning - did consider saying no thanks as I take the reading myself and phone it in every 6 months or so. Had ID and seemed legit.
  2. Looked like a cyclist had been run over by a car/bus sometime between 4 and 4:45 - just outside Shopping City up from the station - anyone know waht happened?? Didn't look good by the fact that the road was going to be closed for several hours according to the Police. For the rest of you may be worth avoiding for next hour or two...

Anyone ever been done outside the old blockbuster in Forest Hill - I remember the camera appearing there a year or so ago and making me very nervous about my DVD giving back loitering...
  4. I remember going into Somerfields before it got 'freshed' up a couple of years ago - terrible experience. Staff were arguing with the manager over pay and breaks etc at the tills in front of customers and generally pretending we weren't there, the place was shoddy. They closed it, redid it, reopened it, and I've always thought the staff have been great ever since. Not sure if htey retrained them or recruited from scratch - suspect the latter.
  5. 90.70 / 7 = ?12.95 per day. So affordable if lunch is missed and dinner is cheap...
  6. Anyone know how much a Franklins brekky will cost me?
  7. As per previous comments coming from Forest Hill direction a no right turn into Melford would be a bit of a blockage for those trying to access Underhill / Wood Vale. Interested in views on the crafty U-Turn that I and many others take just after the Wood Vale turn (heading downhill towards the Harvester) between the two bollards, and then immediately left into WoodVale. As far as I can tell this is completely legal (there's a space there to go, and no signs or lines saying you can't), but it seems to attract lots of honking from people who don't approve - any views on whether this is a fair-enough maneouvre or a naughty habit we should all give up?
  8. I was there on Saturday talking to the owner - he said houses rather than flats as the council didn't want more flats round there. Lots of timber going cheap if anyone needs any!
  9. Are you allowed to put them in normal rubbish - ie is it actually forbidden?
  10. I'm all for fining I'm afraid, bit of a fan of the 'zero tolerance' approach - great debate though.. At the risk of causing an explosion money from offenders could go towards lowerring the tax burden of the law abiding self - seanmlow that's not aimed at you specifically, but general zero tolerance fines for breaking the law. Most do it, some of us get caught..
  11. Comparison with speeding fines was clarified that they are 60 min 1000 max, and up to 6 points on licence - so this fine is much cheaper than that...
  12. People seem to be misunderstanding me - I AM AGAINST LITTER! All I am saying is that the fine is TOO STEEP! Seanmlow But surely what you're asking here is that the fine be more affordable so you can afford to pay it and therefore 'choose' to break the rules because it's worth your while?
  13. There certainly used to be problems. I lived in France for a year with a Belgian registered car, and whilst I never used diszbled spaces, I was confident in my knowledge that as long as I was in a marked parking space there was no need to pay and display as unless I was caught with keys getting in or out of the car I was immune. This was 8 years ago, and maybe some progress has been made on cross-border co-operation, but with Switzerland being outside the EU it may be more difficult with them. Good for your Boyfriend for confronting them...
  14. Not acceptable MW74. I'd move it into the (presumably) communal hallway and lean it against their door if I were you..
  15. I can report a successful incursion into the Lambeth dump (Tritton Rd I think) in West Dulwich yesterday - as the forum tipoff suggested, no ID checks were done, and the tree and an ironing board were successfully 'dumped'. Go forth East Dulwich and push the border West....
  16. Went to the EDW for the first time last Saturday - very impressed. Baguette from the cheese place is excellent!
  17. Anyone know where the clothes boxes have gone from sainsburys? took some shirts at the weekend and had to bring them home...
  18. IMHO GBK is the best burger around - everywhere else I go afterwards just doesn't match it for taste....
  19. Some shooting scene being filmed in Budgens yesterday late pm - anyone know what it was? Crimewatch / The Bill?
  20. lozzyloz - we've got one of those triflows, but I only use it for drinking water. Do you use yours for cooking as well? Wondering if I should be using it more....
  21. We have some lead pipes between the mains and our house which was flagged on the survey when we bought it (though not sure the actual lead levels were tested - if they were nothing untoward was flagged). The previous owners seemed alive and well having lived there for about 7 years (which reassured me slightly). Having said that I always make a point of running the water for a bit prior to drinking any to wash through any that's been sitting in the lead sections. Professional opinion we were given was that this was ok and it's one to replace in the long run.
  22. Moo Too are always great and friendly - they even update me sometimes on who the local shop-watch scheme with walkie talkies etc is watching as some scally lurks around outside trying to thieve up and down the street. Great card selection too....
  23. I had Buildings Insurance with More than, and an old contents policy with Endsleigh. Turned out I actually got 200 quid off the buildings insurance if I took contents with More Than too. Ie I was paying 1100 for buildings, and 250 for contents. By doing them together my combined came down to 880 with More Than. Bit twisted. I obviously cancelled the contents with Endsleigh and kicked myself for not doing it sooner...
  24. Got a takeaway last night from the BBC. Tasted pretty good, but it's priced at the high end. The main complaint was that the kitchen was absolute chaos. I turned up and ordered about 8, and was told 20 minutes. food was ready 40+ minutes later, by which time there were about 15 hungry people at the counter all waiting for food which should have been ready a while ago. Staff had about 30 orders on the go, half bagged up, but couldn't seem to complete any. Teething problems with a new kitchen no doubt - probably be a bit smoother in a few weeks.
  25. We also did the roast beef/lamb at the Plough yesterday - very tasty bit of meat it was too. Conservatory was really sunny as Sean says, and not at all crowded.
