Does anyone know what the census on Wood Vale was about the other day? Was intrigued as to what they were asking the motorists. They had a policeman there, and werre pulling over cars just before they joined Lordship Lane at the Horniman end - were there the whole day both on way to work and on way back - as a pedestrian I didn't qualify for interrogation... Did anyone get censused?

Courier companies seem to be getting more adventurous with who they'll leave packages with if you're out - I've had one today for some people diagonally across the road - usually it's only direct next doors that they leave them with. Don't think this applies to RM though.

Bus drivers are getting a lot of bad press at the moment here - to show the flip side my number 40 driver this evening gave me a lift round to the bus stand rather than insisting on turfing me out at the last stop by the Plough - as I'm on crutches made my day. Good point Keef - Even if the policeman wasn't going to give her a lift home (maybe beyond the call of duty), he could have hung around and smoother her passage onto the bus.

The principle is similar to that that photo shops use if they lose your film (or memory card in this day and age)- they'll buy you a new roll or film but won't pay for you to have another holiday to take the photos of you by the Taj Mahal and riding on that camel again. It's a nightmare I know, but the potential liability for what is actually a fairly small monetary transaction could make the whole business unviable (without suitable insurance?).

As a WoodValer AppleSpider's list looks pretty comprehensive - for speed into town the 10 min walk to Forest Hill stn (or cheat and get a bus - it'll always overtake you if you walk I find) gets me to the office by Liv St in 35 mins door to door on a good morning. I'd say a car is handy for the supermarket run depending on how much you're buying, but that's the same everywhere - you'll have no problem getting yourself to ED or elsewhere without one.

A relative bargain still maybe, but two years ago it was only 2.75 - so inflation has been high in Peckham recently!

LTP - definitely agree with Cassius on this one - you have only a 2 week window to renew, a perfectly reasonable amount of time to be away on holiday and therefore not able to do anything about it. I err on the hard line rule on failing to display, but they need to give people a month to do this - what could be wrong with letting people pay up early?

I pay ?18 per month for Broadband and Phone, and haven't had any connectivity problems - it's occasionally very slow but think that's more my dinosaur of a PC and the wireless rather than the virgin cable itself.
