'Charter East Dulwich' Consultation - call for unity
Mick Mac replied to Trine Adams's topic in The Family Room Discussion
redjam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Let's all just remember how lucky we are that this > school is coming at all and get a little > perspective. Well that comment is all very positive and we are all for extra school places. However they need to be properly targeted. You mention the expected catchment to be 1.4km. The proposed nodal point at Jarvis Road is 1.328 km from my house (just south of junction of Goodrich and Friern) therefore we are absolutely borderine. Take the same distance 1.328 km west of the nodal point and this comfortably covers all of Holmdene Avenue, Effindale Road, Frankfurt Road etc - reflecting them as closer to the school nodal point and giving a girl living there a better chance of getting a place in this new school than my address, on a crow-fly distance basis. Is this what this new "East Dulwich" school was supposed to achieve? This also demonstrates that the area that now has the choice of two Charter schools (incl Herne Hill - lucky them) is absolutely huge. you can use the attached link to measure distances between points on a map. http://www.freemaptools.com/measure-distance.htm [shouldn't this thread be on the main ED General section rather than the Family room where not everyone sees it] No-one likes to see a poorly targeted project - I'm afraid this is what this has become. I am repeating my proposed solutions: > 1) The Charter 2 school and the Charter 1 school > have separately defined and non-overlapping > catchment areas, or > 2) a child within the catchment for Charter 1 is > required to accept the offer at Charter 1 and free > the place at Charter 2 for those in SE22 who > previously did not have access to a Charter school > - hence the school then serves the purpose of > enhancing school places in East Dulwich and not > Herne Hill etc which are already well catered for > by Charter 1, or > 3) the nodal point is moved to central se22 where > it would be most beneficial, irrespective of where > the school grounds actually are, with some > accommodation made to the needs of Camberwell also > which I think was mentioned as having an equal > need to central East Dulwich." -
He was of course sh1t hot at ATM and Liverpool - a great shame how his career has declined - but he will still have great memories.

Quooker taps - are they worth it?
Mick Mac replied to alaska721's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We got one that does 95 degrees rather than 100 - at first we were disappointed but its probably safer. as said above - they are brilliant for a range of uses. -
would the Bundesliga not be a better comparison to the Premiership than La Liga, both in terms of style of play and difficulty in scoring goals ?

'Charter East Dulwich' Consultation - call for unity
Mick Mac replied to Trine Adams's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have responded to the consultation as below: (I don't think the nodal point will help those east of LL, who really do need a school for girls at least. Whilst others now have two Charter schools to choose from is rather unfair or missing the point of anew school...) "I do not support the chosen nodal point in Jarvis Road, being too far north of the central SE22 area. The area south east of Lordship Lane, (southern end of Friern Road etc) which suffers from a lack of girls secondary school availability (1km to Harris Girls) and is an area that campaigned hard for a new school is not served well by this nodal point. However there is now a duplication of Charter school opportunity elsewhere. We, as a family, are currently outside of the catchment for Charter 1 and based upon the Jarvis Road nodal point, are now likely to be outside the catchment for Charter 2 also, while others now have a choice of two Charter schools ! When I spoke about this duplication at one of the open evenings the panel failed to accept the point - the panel response was that another school can only result in more school places for East Dulwich. Then please consider this example; 10 children living near Charter 1 (who would have gotten into Charter 1 previously anyway), but are closer to Charter 2, are each offered a place at both schools. The children choose the nearer school, being Charter 2, this obviously frees up 10 places at Charter 1 (not Charter 2...) Hence the catchment of Charter 1 is expanded by 10 places, but on all sides from its nodal point, to benefit Herne Hill, Dulwich Village, North Dulwich, Denmark Hill etc, and East Dulwich - hence in the case of people in both Charter catchments areas, the other areas surrounding Charter 1 have actually also benefitted from these 10 Charter 2 places and ED as a result only benefits marginally. My proposal is that either 1) The Charter 2 school and the Charter 1 school have separately defined and non-overlapping catchment areas, or 2) a child within the catchment for Charter 1 is required to accept the offer at Charter 1 and free the place at Charter 2 for those in SE22 who previously did not have access to a Charter school - hence the school then serves the purpose of enhancing school places in East Dulwich and not Herne Hill etc which are already well catered for by Charter 1, or 3) the nodal point is moved to central se22 where it would be most beneficial, irrespective of where the school grounds actually are, with some accommodation made to the needs of Camberwell also which I think was mentioned as having an equal need to central East Dulwich." -

BBC quote goals for Brazil, but thats not really a benchmark for a top league.

CELTIC Football Club is delighted today (9/6/15) to announce that it has been granted permission to introduce ?safe standing? through the installation of a rail seating system at Celtic Park. Celtic has been at the forefront of attempts in the UK to introduce this measure, having been in dialogue with the relevant authorities for over five years. It is proposed that the rail seating area will initially accommodate up to 2,600 supporters and after we consult with our supporters, could potentially be introduced for the start of season 2016/17. Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell commented: ?Celtic has worked tirelessly on this issue and we are delighted that this permission has finally been granted?. ?The introduction of rail seating at Celtic Park represents an investment in spectator safety. Across football globally, the reality is that some supporters are choosing to stand at matches. This is something we must accept and manage and also understand the positive effect which these areas have on atmosphere at matches?. ?Celtic?s primary objective will always be the safety and comfort of its supporters ? this new system will now allow fans to stand safely at matches.? ?Rail seating has been in place in European football for some time and there has been considerable demand for some form of ?safe standing? within the UK and particularly from our supporters. We are sure the rail seating section will prove very popular with supporters and we look forward to its introduction.?

At 1-1 it was interesting. Barca were on the back foot for 10 mins or so. Reminded me of the Harry Carpenter line, "he's hurt Tyson" - if you don't finish a strong opponent when you have the chance, they are going to come back and hurt you.

People here told me to let this drop many times, but it turns out that it's become part of FIFAs ability to buy the right end result. It also reflects badly on the FAI. Fifa paid the Football Association of Ireland 5m euros (?3.6m) to stop legal action after France controversially beat Ireland in a World Cup play-off. FAI chief executive John Delaney said he believed they had a case against Fifa after French striker Thierry Henry's handball in the 2009 match. Delaney said a "legitimate agreement" was made to drop the claim after Ireland missed the 2010 World Cup.

East Dulwich needs theatre. If Clapham has one, we deserve one too.

It was a Bill McLaren favourite for rugby commentaries. Not used regularly in footie.....except on special occasions.

Another year with no old firm league games. I was actually hoping Rangers would come up this time but it looked comfortable for Motherwell. There is even reference to a "stramash" at the end. What a great word. FT: Motherwell 3-0 Rangers (Agg: 6-1) Posted at 16:55 Disgraceful scenes at the final whistle as Rangers substitute Bilel Mohsni clashes in an ugly scene with Motherwell striker Lee Erwin, After what seems like an exchange of words, Erwin pushes Mohsni in the back and the Tunisian reacts by launches a kick then a punch at the Motherwell man's head. There's then a good old-fashioned stramash by a group of players as Motherwell fans invade the pitch to celebrate.
