Brixton/Camberwell/D ulwich EDD Feb 2013!
esme replied to magkath's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I did the classes at King's and tho it was a drag getting there after work (pre mat leave) they were really well run and informative... plus I made around 4 friends after we had all popped :) This is a fab area for families so you will find you make friends easily - I made one of my best mummy friends in the doctor's waiting room and others as I say at King's. Once you have your baby you will find various parent & toddler groups, events etc. on this site and others. P.S. I kind of wish I had done NCT classes too as I do think they are a great way of meeting people and also a great organisation generally for childbirth and support. -
"Eco-friendly" cleaning and other interesting household ideas

The amount of water compared to a steamer or steaming/roasting in the oven is surely more in a dishwasher. definitely a topic for the dinner party table tho :) -
Anyone fancy writing an article for new local website?
esme replied to esme's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have now set up the site and it is proving popular, which is great! We get 150+ viewers per day on average... Please take a look and feel free to give me suggestions for any way I might amend for the better or things I could add that would be of interest. This is not a site to rival the Forum in any way, we have business listings but no space for reviewing at the mo. Anyone interested in writing an article or posting a discounted class or course etc. please get in touch via the contact form on the site. Now looking for October woman of the month so let me know ASAP if you fancy a mention and inspiring some equally yummy mummys :) Thank you, Esme -
Any tips re no longer using nappies at night?
esme replied to ClareC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My little boy is still in nappies at night (2.5 yrs old)... he drinks way too much to be out of them just yet and also has sleeping problems generally so I don't plan to take nappies off yet. I do have a friend who managed to take away nappies at night and used the Pampers bed mats, which protect the bed. I guess your child will have to adjust to how it feels and waking if s/he needs to go to the toilet but as with potty training I imagine all trial and error. Be patient and I am sure wet bed will be a memory soon! Good luck :) -
East Dulwich Nurseries - recommendations
esme replied to Clare11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Bright Horizons is excellent (nr Sainsburys) and may have a place in coming months - no fee to put your child down on the waiting list either :) Good luck and go with your instincts (and forget about waiting lists as a lot of luck involved too - I only put my child's name down 4 months before he was offered a place!) -
I would say so - wish I had planned sooner as last day today :(

Fun things for kids to do in central London

Vauxhall farm also worth a visit... -
Me too! Common problem - as you say money better spent on a good bottle of wine & takeaway. Hey ho such is life, wonder if they spend the "deposit" money on staff outings haha It was one of my favourites but my son is now at Bright Horizons - no fee to pay to put your child's name down and all in all a fabulous nursery. Well recommended and may have places soon as more kiddies off to school. Good luck! patt1980 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yep we had the same thing, put our daughter on the > waiting list and paid ?30 and then could never get > hold of them to find out if we had a place. Acupuncture? Tracey Goulden is excellent - she treated me when I was trying for a baby many moons ago and was lovely - friendly and relaxed yet professional and reasonably priced. Essential Therapia is her website She works at a place on Crystal Palace Rd and from home too (also central ED)

I have just set up www.eastdulwichmummy.com as a resource for locals - not in competition with this site, more of a business listings and place for mums to browse for discounts locally and online... If anyone would like to write a short piece or poem even for my site please get in touch, as I am hoping to "pad it out" over the coming weeks and make it more of an online magazine than a dull directory! THANK YOU :)

Does anyone have a number for Blossoms nursery?
esme replied to budur's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Dulwich Pre School and various other nurseries do shorter days esp as you can always drop later and collect earlier... http://www.eastdulwichmummy.com/childcare-services.html Good luck finding the right one for your child :) -

I would go off your gut feeling rather than just Oftsed reports, I have friends clammering to get in there and myself did a work exp placement (was considering teaching as change of career) and it was lovely - nice staff, friendly yet could keep control, good structure but not too formal, and nice kids and atmosphere. Lots of music, activities, creative work as well as formal learning.

Baby refusing bottle - any tips?

The price of toddler classes in Dulwich
esme replied to susie22's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I used to mix n match - some free classes with some I had to pay for like Baby Sensory and other music classes - can def recommend Bea's baby bop and know people who love Tippeetoes, Fuzzy's and Whippersnappers... I fancy the classical concerts above so might give that a try just for a change. Go to http://www.eastdulwichmummy.com/parent--baby--toddler-groups.html for more info about local guide as to "what's on" in ED and surrounding areas. Great little cookery class in Nunhead too that won't break the bank - Crafty Cooks :) -
