  1. We went to a Walters tae kwondo party for a 6 yr old yesterday at the Bussey building yesterday and it was amazing! Great fun, well run and organised, patient instructor who managed to keep control of a big group of kids incredibly well :)
  2. I have been advised you can lower the ceilings fairly easily - cheaper and easier than raising the ridge - best idea get someone like Classic Lofts round and they can go through it with you :)
  3. Do you know about this French immersion holiday club/childcare for littles in Easter and Summer? I am planning to try it out this summer for my 6 yr old son :) It's at Dulwich College and run by French mother-tongue staff. Suitable for children who are bi-lingual, or 100% French-speakers, or new to the language, as they group the children so that all have fun in French at their own level. You can book for days or weeks. More info with dates, times and prices up here: [thefrenchsummerschool.com]
  4. Bumping - thanks for posting, SO important we win this particular battle with the government.
  5. www.east dulwichmummy.com has events listed - there is a family event coming up on Sunday 13 Dec...
  6. Glazer Delmar have good reviews. I've used them for grandmother's conveyancing/property issues and they've been great. Local - based on North Cross Rd. 8299 0021 http://www.glazerdelmar.com/
  7. I would recommend local artist Lou Smith's screen printing parties - see website http://capturedontherye.com/ He can do a smallish party in the shop or if you hire a venue he can organise there, inc candyfloss machine - yum! (see other multiple recommendations elsewhere on here).
  8. No probs - I only started donating recently - every little helps n all that :)
  9. If anyone is feeling generous or as thought they want to do a good deed, please consider donating food (non-perishable) toiletries (men's) and clothing (men's) to the Manna Centre (http://www.mannasociety.org.uk/) which helps the homeless and needy. Collection tubs at St Thomas More (nr Dulwich Library on Lordship Lane) and the church at the top of Barry Road. Many thanks.

  12. I began thinking 'what about boys?' but in this book the focus was on girls because the boys and young men basically had to work for their families. Of course boys need educating but the point here was that the girls who sat at home with mothers and aunts could be getting an education. I'm all for equal ops but in some rural areas where there is extreme poverty you also find ancient traditions (like only boys working and girls being married off for example) which you aren't going to change overnight... I'm on to the sequel now :)
  13. Was this successful?
  14. Amazing book, makes you want to go out and do your bit to change the world! Sorry random posting but had to share... Anyone who runs a book club, pls recommend this for people to read. Very pertinent in today's society, esp with the Paris atrocities. This book is about one American man who has organised the funding and building of many schools for the rural poor in various parts of Asia, inc Baltistan and Afghanistan, and tells his story about his strong belief that the way you combat terrorism is through education, particularly education of girls. Thought provoking read. I've already bought a few copies to give to friends...
  15. Little Clipper or Mems barber near Dulwich library, both have car seats and music / TV
  16. Millie at GMs
  17. Anthony Gold on Walworth road
  18. I just moved my 19 month old for various reasons and he's settling after just a few weeks... If they're not settling there is a reason usually. When mine was 9-10 months he went to a childminder. He never settled so I moved him to a nursery after just 2 months. He was settled within a few days. Every child is different. Follow your instincts and move your child, I'm sure you won't regret it x

Definitely look into the free Childcare for 2 yr old and also claim Childcare vouchers for after school care x
  20. Sleep, bubble baths, drink loads of water, if really problematic try 'proactiv' but make sure you end the subscription after first purchase... My skin was terrible too but has now eased up, aside from dark circles ! Maybe one day I'll sleep again :)
  21. Try Hello Mums :)
  22. Bumping worthy cause - good luck!
  23. You'll find various threads on nurseries. My personal favourites are the baby room at Bright Horizons, Mother Goose on Upland road and Little Jungle near Goose Green. Put name down after you've been around to visit and get a feel. Don't panic, after baby is born is fine!!
  24. I was reading about English Heritage events the other day, think we might try somewhere further afield
