  1. We use vagina although I'm aware that it's not strictly correct...I couldn't think of anything else though. I suppose in time we could introduce vulva etc! Much easier for boys!
  2. It's hard isn't it? As others have said varying the settings to prevent boredom can help (ha easier said than done in bad weather!) plus having friends of different ages. I sometimes think I'm a bit too keen to chat to the other mum and perhaps need to watch what's going on more carefully...
  3. Loved the book but not sure about seeing the film...read somewhere that it lacks a sense of time and place?? As others have said don't get to the cimena much so when I do I want it to be something really good.
  4. Lovely post Moos! I always text my childminder when I'm 10 minutes away so she can get E into coat, shoes and buggy- she just tantrums if I try (doesn't want to leave...). I arrived early the other day and waited in the living room while the children finished their dinner. I could hear E saying please and thank you being asked to finish her pasta and complying...sigh..
  5. Well today baby C7 was head down according to the midwife- hopefully s/he will stay like that. Thanks for all your tips! Some of the positions suggested in the spinning babies site are incredibly difficult- anyone tried the ironing board one?? Not sure I could do that pre pregnancy!
  6. I gave a lot of thought to what I would wear in labour and ended up buying a Primark nightie in a dark colour (plus loads of black Primark knickers to avoid disposable ones). In the event it was all over very quickly, before we'd got to hospital, and I didn't even open the hospital bag I'd so lovingly packed! Was actually wearing an old t shirt I quite like when the time came. Luckily it was shoved in the machine at 60 the next day and came out fine...in fact I wear it lots now I'm expecting no.2, if all goes to plan and I get my home birth I'll probably end up wearing it again! Pickle's dressing gown idea is good too, I made the mistake of buying a really nice one which may have got a bit stained had I ended up in hospital.
  7. We have a John Lewis black and grey feece footmuff, fits Maclaren Quest well, think I've seen them on Bugaboos. It cost ?15. There's also a red fleece one with white stars which is bigger maybe.

  9. We have just bought a p&t in spite of being aware of the awkward period of time when baby is too big for cocoon but not big enough for bottom seat. No space for a side by side plus we use public transport. Hopefully I'll have a small baby who is happy in the cocoon until 6months- ha! Also have Maclaren and sling...They have great resale value though so if I really hate it can sell and buy Bugaboo Donkey ha ha. Going off topic a bit (sorry for thread hijack)what do people do about changing bags with the p&t? Surely you can't hang anything off the handles as would hit baby in the head but id there room in the shopping basket for much? Have promised myself nice new bag but may not work with this in mind!
  10. Apologies if this has been done recently, I did a search but couldn't find a thread with any tips. I'm 33 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby and he/she has been head up for ages. Aside from it being very uncomfortable (!) am getting a bit worried that it will stay that way! Very keen not to have a c-section for various reasons. I've looked at the spinning babies website but wondered if anyone has any advice re positions to assume and things to do! Reassurance from people whose babies turned late is welcome too! I'm probably being paranoid but my daughter was head down from 28 weeks and can't help comparing... Thanks!
  11. Another vote for the Tripp Trapp. They look great and can be pushed under the table. They seem comfortable too. My dughter's been in one since 6 months and still really happy there. Will definitely be buying another for baby 2.
  12. Urgh lots of sympathy! I suffered from this in my last and current pregnancies. I found the accupressure bands quite effective in my first pregnancy but less so this time. A friend tried accupuncture and said it reduced the vomitting so at least she could eat on the days she'd had treatment. Hope that helps, good luck and hope it passes soon.
  13. I like Merlin's too. Biff have some nice toddler shoes in the sale at the moment (girls anyway I didn't look at the boys ones). Will def try this place next time though.
  14. I remember our daughter doing this too, not sure there's anything you can do to stop it. She learnt to roll back quite quickly (can't remember how long exactly) and became a front or side sleeper too around this time. Other physical milestones that interrupted sleep were learning to sit from lying down, pulling self up and crawling- just to warn you!
  15. Hi Kate I'm not sure what is typical but this is what we have done with our childminder (and was written in her contract). Q1:4 weeks annual leave is v reasonable but should we as the family pay for these seen they are self-employed? (I understand with nanny's this is the case as you as the family are the employer). We do pay for 4 weeks annual holiday and our CM always gives us plenty of notice, from what I've heard this is typical in spite of CM being self employed. Q2: if we as a family decide to go on holiday outside the childminders holiday/annual leave, should we still pay for this (as you do with nurseries / nannies)? I am a teacher and we have an arrangement which means we pay half in the school holidays if she doesn't attend. Parents I know who are not teachers have to pay during their holidays though. Q3: when childminder is ill or her children are ill in which case she cannot work - is the family liable to pay on these days? We don't pay if CM or her children are ill but do if our daughter is and misses a day. Hope this helps!
  16. Hi Bee74 Sorry I don't know what the consequences of keeping him away from nursery 1 day per week. Just wanted to say that I would feel the same were E offered a full time place at 3. For me too it seems very full on at such a young age (even though as you know she has been with a CM 3 days per week since she was 11 months). I know of another parent whose nursery is offering the same thing and she has similar misgivings. The only thing you can do is try I suppose, I'm sure he'll love it and adapt really well. Speak soon!
  17. I also really like Dr Scorer, very matter of fact and to the point but efficient and effective. I've had mainly good experiences at the surgery (though not used the Drs much), the midwives are fab (planning to avoid HVs for no.2 though but that's another thread!).
  18. My daughter is yet to have hair cut (can't face keeping her still!) but I go to GM's and have seen lots of children having their hair cut alongside parents. They give them juice and chocolate biscuits too!
  19. Agree with the baby cinema, I used to go even if the film didn't look amazing and I'm glad I did. I enjoyed doing things in central London, Diana Memorial Plaground, Coram's Fields, Science Museum. I work 3 days now but on my days 'off' there always seems to be too much to do to leave ED.
  20. Congrats Ruth!Fab news! Looking forward to the pics x
  21. We had this problem too, tried soaking but didn't make much difference. Like others l prefer cloth bibs with plastic backs as you can put them in the machine. JL are best the Sainsburys ones fell apart.
  22. Sorry to hijack your post checkmeout but I would be interested in doing something similar with a group of toddlers too. I'll be on maternity leave from the end of Sept and need to keep my 2.5 year old entertained! We would love to meet new friends (and meet up with existing ones- hi bee74!).
  23. Somewhere on Crystal Palace Road/Heber Road/Rodwell Road. Very clean as they've only had a few outings, grrr! Let me know if you've spotted it! Thanks!
  24. edited as duplicate post
  25. Agree with all of the above! E loves the Alfie books by Shirley Hughes, Naughty Bus, Tony Ross books, Gorilla by Anthony Browne, Polly Dunbar books, Peace at Last and Whatever Next by Jill Murphy, Emily Gravett books, the Mog books. Definitely choose books you like reading. We were given loads of ITNG books which thankfully E has now gone off!
