Have you been to St Faith's Playgroup on a Monday am?
crystal7 replied to ccollins79's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It's a really friendly group, lots of stuff for toddlers, enclosed and singing at the end of the session. -
I have always been able to get an appointment on the same day for my 2 children if I call at 8.30 (sometimes takes a while to get through). If it's for me and an emergency I have been asked to come in and wait to see the duty Dr a few times. I aso really rate several of the Drs there. We are closer to DMC but threads like this put me off moving!

I started to experience the sort of pain you describe last week. Like you neither baby, nor I had any outward signs of thrush but had just finished a long course of antibiotics. Bizarrely it just seemed to stop after a few days so I cancelled my Dr appointment. I did however do some research and found a great leaflet,on the Breastfeeding Network website. I printed it to take to the Dr asit describes the reatment required. Knomester's thread is also reallyinformative. I wgbould also recommendy taking probiotic capsules daily to prevent thrush. You can buy them in Health eMatters on Lordship Lane. Good luck,

We pay 50 per day which includes all meals. Mamy childminders in East Dulwich seem to charge around 6 -7 per hour. We have the same holitday arrangements as pebbles.

Meals that can be prepared in advance
crystal7 replied to crystal7's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ha well as you know belle E is very picky so was thinking more for OH and I but if I could find something she would eat either first or as leftovers the next day it would be a bonus! That puttanesca recipe would be great when you get a min. Beagle I'm very impressed with yr toddler too! Both of those look fab, thanks. -
Would never leave toddler in there alone, it's just good to have somewhere for her to play if we're there for a meal. We generally take it in turns to stay with her which works well if we're with a group.

Cooking threads always get such a great response so thought I'd try here before googling. Baby and toddler bath and bedtime take up quite a big chunk of the evening so I'm keen to try out some recipes that can be prepared earlier in the day when toddler is at nursery and heated up at dinner time. We don't eat meat, just fish. I already make fish pie, veggie lasagne and veggie shepherds pie. Anyone got any other great recipes to share? Thanks!

Agony feeding my baby - any advice?
crystal7 replied to blackkat's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Uh oh I've just had a google...Would make sense as I've just finished a 10 day course of anti biotics or tonsilitis, no outward signs of thrush though. Need to make a Drs appointment then. -

Just bumping up this thread as I've been experiencing some deep pain in 1 breast today. I can't feel a lump and not feverish or anything so praying it's not mastitis as I had a bout in the same breast just before xmas. Wonder if it could be a bleb? Also if it is mastitis again is it worrying to have it in the same place?! Obviously I'll see a Dr if it gets worse just interested to see if anyone has experienced similar... -
I've been there. My daughter was always the one trying to get out of the ire escape or running into the loos at singing. I hate it when I feel like my parenting is on show as everyone watches me grapple with my toddler! Saffron I too have felt told off by people leading these groups when my daughter didn't do as she was told despite the fact that she wasn't disrupting the other children. At nearly 3 she is much more inclined to sit still these days (even managed a trip to the theatre over xmas) but I still try and stick with activities involving mostly free/exporatory play. We do Diddi Dance once a week and it's fantastic although I wouldn't recommend for under 2s, E didn't start to love it until at east 2.5 (insisted on going though but didn't always take part).

Baby wont eat at nursery - tell me it will be ok
crystal7 replied to shaunag's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Shaunag you have my sympathies. I went back to work when my daughter was 11 months and not a great eater and it took her a while to eat much whilst with her childminder. She was terribly upset when I left her each morning which was just awful and sometimes she would eat only a piece of apple all day. I would usually find she'd eat a bit with me in the evenings but not a lot. I was still breastfeeding too 1st thing last thing and twice in the night. I think I underestimated how many calories she was getting from my milk though as she was fine and thriving throughout. I too felt there wasn't much left but was probably a bit paranoid about it. My childminder was very supportive and would try different things at different times such as when E was a bit distracted. I'd bring Ella's Kitchen pouches for back ups too. It slowly got better and after 3 months or so she was eating better there than at home. Looking back as well as separation anxiety teething probably had a lot to do with it...I think you should definitely go in and discuss it with the nursery staff and maybe provide something you know she'll eat? Really hope it improves for you soon. -
My daughter, 3 next month, sucks her fingers when tired. I'm not really bothered about that but whilst doing it she has started to pick at her lips which were a little dry and cracked from the cold. It's got to the point where there's often blood on her sheet in the morning and her top lip looks awful- like she's had a fall. We tell her to stop doing it, try to distract her, bribe her but nothing works. It's obviously quite sore but she wont let us put anything on it- just wipes it off. Short of tying her hands behind her back I don't know what else to do! Anyone else's toddler do this? Will it ever end??

Hi Paula I went to one of Gumboots's open days and was given and application form there. About 6 months later my daughter was offered a place. However she is in the pre school room, I think places for babies are more limited. Somebody told me Gumboots had closed their waiting list, no idea if this is true/still the case. I have always managed to get through on phone. Hope this helps.

p&t ok on public transport though I wouldn't attempt at busy times. I use a sling and a Maclaren sometimes but it's hard work because it can be tricky to bend down and see you toddler. One thing about the p and t that I've found really good is that for the first few months every time we went out baby would sleep in the cocoon and I could play with toddler.

Canaidanandlisa I have a 2.8yr gap between my 2 and got a phil and teds explorers. It's not great in lots of ways but seemed to be the best option for an older toddler who will want to hop in and out. Main attraction is that it works as a single too as my toddler isn't always with me. Also they have good resale value- I'm hoping to ditch mine in a year. Plus can be bought fairly cheaply on here.

It took E about a month to master pooing on potty. She used to hold it in and get very upset. We thought it was progress when she stopped being upset after a poo accident. Eventually she just did it. We kept offering to put a nappy on for poos but she refused but I know others have had success with that e.g. having pull ups in the bathroom readyfor no.2s. Not sue about pant refusal, bribing with new pants? Reward chart??

3 mth old waking every 45 mins at night...any ideas??
crystal7 replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Urgh as you know we've experienced similar though to be honest more with E than Ez. I remember E having a truly horrendous period of sleep awake every hour sometimes from 10-7. Awful and I didn't have to contend with a toddler in the day. I'm sure it's some kind of wonder week thing as lots of friends experienced the same between 3 and 4 months (gah means it's coming to us in about 2 weeks!). Could be teething though. Hope you're gettting some rest at the weekends. -
I'm a teacher and there are childminders out there who only work term time, Southwark will be able to tell you. In the end I found an amazing childminder who I pay half during the school holidays which gives me the option of sending my daughter on odd days over the summer (for full pay obviously). The only nuseries I found offering term time only care also had quite short hours e.g. 9-4 which, unless you have someone to pick up/drop off for you, dont work. I didn't know Ducks were term time only though. Hope this helps a bit

Clary sage oil - how did you use yours?
crystal7 replied to Pickle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I used it in both pregnancies post 40 weeks. I've added quite a few drops to the bath and then got out and massaged bump with it (mixed with bio oil). Both my labours have started after doing this for a few nights but then I was overdue...good luck! Very exciting. -
Ideas for a 3yr old's birthday outing/treat
crystal7 replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm following this thread with interest! Can't face the idea of birthday party either for similar reasons. Was thinking zoo but E recently decided she wont walk when it's cold. Science museum great but so busy at weekend ditto Gambardos (though that would be her no 1 choice!). Last yr we went with friends to Mudchute farm which was nice but cold and the main attraction was riding on the DLR and lunch at Wagamamas in Canary Wharf! The Museum of Childhood Bethnal Green has some interactive stuff and nice cafe plus easy to get to on Overground.
