  8. This workshop is designed to strengthen and free all those muscles that have been strained, shortened and tightened after all those years of sitting on chairs or sofas for long periods, running or cycling, and simply not moving the way you were designed to move. The hips and spine (and hamstrings which are muscles of the hip) were designed to have freedom of movement, to bend with ease, to be supple. Sitting for long periods, whether that's at work or at home as well as the limited range of movement in our daily lives can cause these muscles and the fascia around them to contract and tighten, causing what we know as ?stiffness? or an inability to touch our toes or bend backwards with ease. In this two hour workshop, we will explore how to cultivate a greater range of motion and strength in key areas of the body: the spine and all the muscles of the hips including the hamstrings. We will explore how to cultivate a greater awareness of the core muscles, how to access greater range of motion, both passively and actively, in key areas of the body, and how to release tight hips and hamstrings using dynamic movements. This will not only help to improve the flexibility and strength, but it will also help alleviate back and hip pain, improve your posture, teach you how find freedom in these areas with yoga poses and exercises that you can take back home to your own mat. We will also explore the function of hips, shoulders, abdominals, and limbs in creating a strong and supported backbending practice. The workshop ends with exercises that unwind the spine, savasana, and meditation. If you want to get stronger in your core or have tight hamstrings, weak hip flexors, or have back pain, this workshop is for you! ALL levels of practitioners are welcome. No need to bring a mat, just bring a pen and notebook. *Healthy treats provided after the workshop Tickets are ?30 (this includes the eventbrite charge). All levels welcome! 13. So after several requests for repeats of my Hips, Hamstring and Spine workshop, I am excited to present my brand new workshop in which we will explore the hips, hamstrings, shoulders AND spine in an exciting, new way: moving through Mandala vinyasa, talking about the chakras and the elements, and softening with yin yoga at the start and end. Based on the elements in the Mayan calendar, join me on a Mandala Vinyasa and Yin yoga journey through Air - this day is an Air day! In Mandala yoga we move 360 degrees around our mats, using our breath to carry us through each asana. The pace is slow, the practise is strong. Modifications and options for each pose are offered and every level of practitioner is welcome! On an Air day as based on the Mayan calendar, we focus on opening the shoulders and lengthening and strengthening the quads and opening the hips to allow us to go deeper and more safely into backbends and heart openers. We will stimulate the Anahata chakra, our heart centre, leaving you feeling open to possibility, abundant and energised. We will also go deep into the shoulders, hamstrings and hips in our yin practise at the end, to balance the element of Air and provide grounding with the Earth and Water elements. Props will be provided for the yin yoga to allow us to go deep into the connective tissue and soften into the poses. We will end and start with a short meditation, focusing on the element of Air. This 2 hour session will start and end with yin yoga to compliment the subtle and physical body that we will be working on the day. Tickets are ?30 (this includes the eventbrite charge). All levels welcome! Book your tickets here: [www.eventbrite.co.uk] Sarah x

Grow Your Flow: A Beginner's Yoga Workshop To Help Develop a Home Practice Where: Zen Yoga, Camberwell When: Saturday 14 April 2-4pm With: Sarah Fretwell Yoga How much: ?30 An at-home yoga self-practise is such a gift. You can practise when you want, for how long you want, and whichever poses take your fancy in the moment. Yes yoga classes are a fantastic way to deepen your practise under the guidance of an experienced yoga teacher, and to pick up new tricks, but a self-practise is so deeply personal to you. Your body. Your goals. Your mind. Your practice. This workshop will help you to take your practise from the studio into your own home. We will explore how to sequence a balanced home vinyasa-style yoga practise that gives you what you need day to day. We'll cover with the traditional elements that make up a vinyasa practise; the different approaches to yoga outside the classroom; a variety of sequences for both different seasons and energy-levels; how to practise when you're short on time; obstacles to a yoga practice at home and how to overcome them; finding inspiration for your own yoga practise; introducing yin yoga to your vinyasa practise and more... This workshop is open to anyone ? current yoga practitioners, beginners looking to understand more , or teachers wanting to grow their own practice ? and will help you develop your at-home practice and more. 23. *Update* - Only 5 tickets left. This workshop is designed to strengthen and free all those muscles that are strained, pushed and tightened as you sit for long periods, run or cycle or similar. This will not only help to improve the flexibility and strength, but it will also help alleviate back and hip pain, improve your posture, teach you how find freedom in these areas with yoga poses and exercises that you can take back home to your own mat. What to expect: We will move with ease and fluidity through a creatively sequenced flow and strengthening exercises. We will then melt into a slow, soothing Yin yoga practise, using props to help us lengthen and free up the muscles and fascia of the hips and spine. We will end with an utterly relaxing session of yoga Nidra - a practise of complete stillness and rest. This is a physical practise with lots of time for questions, chatting and laughter! No previous yoga experience is required and beginners are very welcome. All props and mats provided, just bring yourself and something warm to wear for the yoga Nidra at the end.
