Can someone tell me what is so spoecial about Melbourne Grove? There are many many pavements, I'd hazard "most" in SE22 which are too narrow for social distancing, this is opportunistic nonsense at shoving their share of traffic onto someone else. The feedback mechanism is a joke if they're only interested in the views of the people on that road specifically also. Seriously, the council spend time and money on this? Wow. Just...wow.

I live in a very modern looking house in SE22 so have a passing interest. What do people want to see in new buildings? Same old style?

Why woudl it be cynical if they need to save money?

PR sugar coating at a guess - imagine the public reaction to "We have to close the cemeteries now! Too many deaths!" I agree with you on most of what your'e sayign btw - my daily walk is through Camberwell Old, or was anyway.

I suspect they're closing them now for fairly gentle reasons as the alternative is to close them in 2-3 weeks because they are just too busy with funerals for anything else.

Re Panic buying. I read a piece today about how things look - if they sell 50 extra packs of 9 bog rolls that's a lot of bulk, shelf empties, looks like the end of the world. 50 tins of beans? Far less visual impact. Hence the focus on bog roll. But the former leads to the panic, and off we go...

Just had a nice couple of early evening pints in there, all very pleasant with good hopes and aims. Down to us now though isn't it? Use it or lose it (again). Give it a go for what it is - a nice place for a beer.
