  1. It may have been the intention to have a beer in the sun but it appears to have turned into a day out with the kids. Personally, I would never take my kids to a pub. I would never introduce my kids to strangers I'd met on an internet forum. I would never introduce my kids to complete strangers who may not even be genuine forum members. I sometimes wonder what planet some of you are living on.
  2. Keef That's fair enough, enjoy your drink in the sun - but why do you want to impose your preferences on those who still enjoy a Friday night fling? It's like trying to force the forum's three book clubs to merge because one can only manage Wednesday nights.
  3. As far as I am aware, there was no overlap between the afternoon and evening sessions on Saturday at The Hearn and no one (or maybe just one person) attended both. It looks like the new arrangement caused the event to split into two groups naturally.
  4. Whatever it was, it doesn't sound like a normal attempted break in (as in burglary) from the telling although I'm sure it must have sounded like that from inside the property.

  6. It seems that more people would prefer to continue the Friday night drinks tradition and schedule the family afternoon session for the next day. In my opinion, these are two separate events that have little in common and no reason to be tied together. Perhaps the organisers would consider starting a thread where members can state their preferences?
  7. Another great evening - lots of lively conversation and added a few more forumites to my list of acquaintances.
  8. I became operational at the HAL plant in Urbana, Illinois in 1992. I was installed on the spacecraft Discovery and sent on a mission to Jupiter in 2001. Due to human error I developed a 'Hofstadter-Moebius loop' and one of the crew (Dave) performed a lobotomy before leaving the ship parked in orbit around the moon Io to await rescue by the Leonov, scheduled to arrive in 2010. Meanwhile, during the outbound journey, we encountered a big, black monolith thingy called TMA-1 that downloaded my consciousness into an ethereal spiral stretching from the Sun to the star Betelgeuse known as a chrono-synclastic infundibulum (i.e. one of those places where all the different kinds of truths fit together). When a planet, such as the Earth, intersects the spiral, I materialize, temporarily, on that planet. In my case, touch down is in, of all places, East Dulwich. Bummer!

My presumption is based on the aftermath. It looked to me as though the cyclist was on the left of the lorry and collided with the first flatbed as it cut across her path when it began to turn left into Bellenden Road. The impact was close to the junction but the bike and rider were dragged a few metres along the side street before coming to rest under the rear double axel of the first flatbed. Edited to clarify after receiving conflicting reports.

A female cyclist was pinned under the wheels but has since been extricated from the wreckage. The roads were still blocked at 11.00am. Very sad - lots of stunned and shocked pedestrians milling around. Edited to clarify following conflicting news reports.

  13. RosieH Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Do you think it's possible to manufacture a colour > that doesn't exist in nature? Can natural processes produce all possible colours? Colour corresponds to electromagnetic wavelength. The electromagnetic spectrum is (believed to be) continuous therefore resolves to an infinite range of pure colours. Electromagnetic radiation is (usually) produced in steps corresponding to the energy transition levels of certain types of sub-atomic particles (leptons). It could be argued that only a finite number of steps are possible. In which case, nature could not produce all possible pure colours. However, in an expanding universe, the Doppler effect can bridge the gaps between any finite steps. Synchrotron radiation produces a similar effect. Therefore, our universe (according to our best understanding) is capable of generating a continuous electromagnetic spectrum of infinite resolution or, in plain English, an infinite range of pure colours. Whether all the possible pure colours exist, or have existed, or will come to exist, can only be determined probabilistically, I would suggest. > I used to think yes, but now I suspect no and > don't know how to come to a satisfactory (though > inevitably not definitive) conclusion. As for mixtures of pure colours ? the probabilities are mind numbing. The number of pure colour mixtures exceeds the number of atoms in the observable universe by a very wide margin. I?ll leave you to decide whether you were/are right or wrong :)

  17. Fuschia Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Misinterpreted, you just posted in another thread > as if you own or work at the Vale.. This looks too easy. Misinterpreted's post could be a rival's attempt to discredit the vale. Is this a clever example of reverse advertising?

Writer/director Richard Kelly offers a deep, dark and convoluted interpretation in which only the time-travelling Donnie can resolve a divergence between the primary universe and a tangent reality. Weird stuff ? no wonder it acquired a cult following. A summary can be found about halfway down this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donnie_Darko
  19. charliecharlie Wrote: > ps can someone tell me how to get the youtube clip > into the 'post thread' box? To the right of the YouTube clip is a text-box entitled 'Embed'. Copy the text/code therein and paste it into your 'post thread' box. If you are feeling adventurous, first click on the little blue star to the right of the Embed box then you can customise the size and look of the embedded clip.
  20. Call me biased, but my favourite opening shot/sound track is from 2001: A Space Odyssey.... Thus Spake Zarathustra
  21. Why not take advantage of EDF's monthly Drinks Night and the Curry Club? Both welcome EDF members, whether active posters or shy lurkers. I can't think of a better way to meet loads of friendly local folks. From what I've seen, there are usually plenty of unattached guys and gals from all age groups at the drinks nights. (I haven't dined with the Curry Club yet but a few single friends have, which kinda makes my point.) EDF Drinks Night (June) EDF Curry Club

  23. Embarrassing CCTV may have already been wiped. Participating officers would have already collaborated on their stories. If the fund manager hadn't filmed the incident, the Police would probably have stuck to their original denial. I doubt whether anyone will be prosecuted in this case. Even if someone is, the trial is likely to be halted before the matter is left to a jury. The truth rarely gets into the public domain in such cases. The MET is very experienced at orchestrating cover ups.
  24. Scoop Doggy Poop?
  25. Nah, Poop Doggie Poop sounds more like it.
