That way , no one would have a > wasted journey . A sign or notice would have been useful last night given the large number of other groups around. I sat alone feeling lost and forlorn for a good ten minutes before spotting a familiar face (SeanMac, as it happens) join the group - all the others were new to me. What was odd - the bar and waiting staff didn't know anything about the EDF group - at one point I thought I was at the wrong venue.
  2. Shhhh - that was 'the drinks' for the clique's inner circle. Say no more.
  3. The incident took place within the catchments of the forum - on the eastern side. The kids got a good look at me - in fact, they'd stopped to stare at me as I walked by. Unfortunately, I didn't register a good description of them - I was somewhat shocked and anxious to get away as quickly as possible so avoided making eye contact. I didn't have a mobile and it took a little while to walk back home because I returned via a different route. I went for a drive around the area later with a camera but the streets are full of similar looking youngsters making their way to the fair at the nearby park. I'm not sure a report to the police would achieve anything useful under the circumstances.
  4. Just popped out to get the Sunday papers. Whilst walking through a quiet residential area I saw two teenaged white boys running back and forth ahead of me. I thought they were playing. As I came closer I realised - to my horror - what they were doing. They were armed with six-inch-bladed knives and taking turns launching frenzied stabbing attacks on a wheelie bin!
  5. Presumably, this strategy is known as 'hedging a bet'? It sounds like the financial market strategy called 'arbitrage': specifically a type of 'spread' (aka 'hedge') position. As in 'hedge' fund. Yo!

What a shame. We exchanged greetings as I arrived and you were leaving (just after 8). I thought surely you must have recognised me? There were about 8-10 forumites there already, none of whom I recognised either. But within 10 minutes or so someone arrived that I did recognise and it turned into one of the best drinks evenings I've had the pleasure to attend so far. All told about 15-20 of us had a terrific time and a few ended up in the Bishop where we met up with a dozen or so other regulars.
  7. I'm planning to be there by eight fifteen or so.

  9. Nope.

  11. No, but an impressionist would get the drift.

  14. Last night I had avocado vinaigrette followed by pan-fried duck breast a la Orange, creamed potatoes and ratatouille - all homemade. Served with fresh crusty bread and a fruity red country wine. It was delicious. It cost less than a typical takeaway and took about 45 minutes from raw ingredients to cooked meal. You just can't beat home cooking, IMHO. What's the alternative: bland Chinese, gloupy curry, cheesy pizza, lardy kebab, oily fish and chips or dried-out fried chicken?
  15. Carried out an olfactory survey of Rye Lane late this afternoon, one of the hottest days of the year. Not a bad smell anywhere! In fact, the distinct fragrance of incense wafted from some of the shops. Is it possible that this thread has had a positive impact?

  17. While the artist tried in vain to capture her inscrutable expression she used a small trombone to expose the ghost in the camera - an act of pure altruism.
  18. ISTR, that the post box on the corner of Tintagel Crescent and Grove Vale (just north of the LL roundabout) had a 6:30pm last collection. I have used this box on many occasions in the past but do not know whether its last collection is still the same today. Good Luck.
