I think the fact that our Home Sec is probably best known for shoes might tell you there is a problem with perception and media reporting, Loz. I'd say it's equally as bad.

Quids - as it was something Mrs Miliband did and not Ed I'm not sure how you blame the sins of the mother on the son. But if we want to talk about inherited wealth I'd be delighted to examine the fortune due to the resident of no11 Downing Street. Meanwhile, as if to crow about their feminist credentials the Tories demean their most senior female MP, Teresa May, by renting her out as a personal shopper. You could buy a trip to get some shoes with the Home Sec at the last Tory fundraiser. I think satire just ate itself.

Just be glad you don't live in Greenland where the average pint is ?7.35.

Or maybe things have changed since 2010 when that was written?

Does beer suffer in comparison to wine? People seem much more ready to spend big money on wine.

Totally Mexico, Jah. Frightening on so many levels and so true.

I once paid ?6 for a bottle of Budweiser! That works out at about ?14 a pint. Does that count?

Oh I see....it's all a big "IF"? Lummy - seemingly its one where both sides need to step back from the brink. An all-out strike seems disproportionate in the circumstances. Interesting to note how low the voting figures were too. Just around 500 members voting on industrial action of this scale. "Power corrupts but absolute power corrupts absolutely." The wider issues within the RMT post Bob Crow are at play here too. There is an internal power struggle going on for the power within the organisation. It's not widely known outside political circles but Bob was a reasonable negotiator and far less militant than the wider membership. He was well aware of the negative publicity tube strikes brought to the RMT. And then you have the Boris issue. He despises the RMT and is in a pitched battle to drive them out of existence so they are making his last year as mayor as difficult as possible. The "issue" for the strike is rarely the real reason for it.

It seems they did, Loz, if you read the whole article. And LU lost. But yet are still sacking the bloke. "Last year at ACAS (the conciliation service) the RMT offered to call off any strike action if LU agreed to reinstate Alex following an Employment Tribunal ruling that he was dismissed unfairly. "LU refused even this most reasonable of offers and were unable to give a cogent reason for their refusal." He said the type of machine used for the alcohol test ?has been known to fail. Indeed a failure was recorded last year at Acton depot when a manager tested positive but the machine was deemed to be faulty.? So you've got an employer acting unreasonably and with double standards for workers and management.

Boozy art walk: Vauxhall, Waterloo, Borough

Once since Xmas/NYE doesn't exactly strike me as excessive?

I think they probably discriminted against him for being a bit of twat.

If he was wrongfully arrested he could make a complaint to the IPCC. If they investigate they could obtain the CCTV footage.

Met him once in an art gallery. Humourless arsehole sums him up nicely. Quite like the Jam. Not so keen on SC. Quite like the Wild Wood solo album.

McDonalds French fries... What's in them... ?

You want to do something about that - is it too late to chuck her in for a bandy legged Scots lass whose idea of fine dining is using a wooden fork with her chips? -
McDonalds French fries... What's in them... ?
david_carnell replied to DulwichFox's topic in The Lounge
It's the milkshake ingredients that are more hilariously obscure. More interesting though, imo, in the Fast Food Nation book was the production of the chip itself. They are produced in such mind-boggling quantities that the production line methods are fascinating. This gives a brief overisght but misses some details http://www.businessinsider.com/how-mcdonalds-makes-its-fries-2012-10?op=1&IR=T For instance the "peeling" process involves some sort of hot water bath and tumble dryer apparatus if I remember correctly. But please don't post from "Natural News" as if it's a sensible source of information. -
UK government response to King Abdullah's death
david_carnell replied to Earl Aelfheah's topic in The Lounge
The fear from the West, though, is that should they criticise or undermine the Saud regime, any internal uprising would destabilise the oil markets. The West's nightmare scenario is a anti-Western theocracy taking over in Saudi. Remember that bin-Laden was a relative of the Saudi royal family who renounced them for allowing US forces into Saudi as part of Gulf War I. A Saudi Arabia that doesn't sell oil at cheap rates or buy western arms is a terrifying prospect for those concerned. -
Combining back reception room into side return extension
david_carnell replied to Lou's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We didn't do it but have just moved to a house where this has been done and love it. It makes a perfect family room and we keep the front reception as adults-only space for the evenings when kid(s) are in bed. No mess. It has a single step down from a carpeted "lounge" area to a tiled kitchen-diner bit but I like that slight deliniation. Doors outside are at floor level with the decking which will be good in summer hopefully.
