    a joke

Why did the baker have brown hands? Because he needed a poo.
  2. Can I have my name in flames in 24pt underneath all my posts please Mr Administrator? Would add a bit of colour around the place.
  3. The reason supermarkets can sell Becks for 49p a bottle is they do so as a "loss leader". They do the same with bread, milk and a few other products. The principle is that the idea fo getting Becks for such a cheap price will draw customers into the supermarket. Whilst picking up their becks, they will then think "ooh, I quite fancy some pringles to go with this. Why don't I make it a night in and get one of the take-away curry bags things" and thus rack up sizeably more than 49p when they get to the cashdesk. People buy from supermarkets because they assume they are getting good value on everything. In fact they are only getting "good" value on a few staples. What this means for the producers of these is highlighted in the plight of the British dairy farmer. What price is it fair to pay in a pub for a bottle of becks? Well if x is the cost production and y is the overheads of the pub and z is the..... oh sod it, about ?1.95 I should think.

They have a website (google the gowlett, I can't be bothered with linking)
  6. These jokes are all a bit cheep aren't they?
  7. They take cheques if you really can't be bothered to ensure you have ?20 on you before going into a shop.
  8. My ?0.02: I moved here from Surrey and had a car when I first arrived. It proved useful now and again but my far the biggest problem was the standard of driving, quite possibly the worst I have ever come across. Coupled with rising costs I ditched it. Shopping at weekends isn't too bad. Sainsburys deliver all the heavy non-consumables such as cat litter and washing powder every so often. The Mrs_david and I will walk from the Leisure Centre (nr where we live) all the way to William Rose and can then walk back again stopping at each shop we need stuff from (Moxons, greengrocer on NCR, cheese block, deli, n e other etc) and between the two of us can manage our weeks worth of stuff in one go. Other bits and pieces are picked up ad hoc. So, I've not missed the car and the buses are excellent to go anywhere but I have every sympathy with people like TillieTrotter and suspect that in her position I would definately use a car. Time is precious at a weekend and with much to do with children in tow, sometimes the car gets the job done.

  10. kford Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Jerk Rock closed because it was rubbish, by the > way. If it was a decent ethnic restaurant, I'm > sure it would've survived. I think kford has the right end of the stick here. Currently, "ethnic" food has never been so popular with people clammering to find the next exciting regional cuisine that will be "big". The diversity of LL is exemplified by the melange of restaurants featuring food from all over the world - indian, bangladeshi, japanese, chinese, thai etc etc. One, frankly sub-standard, Caribbean restaurant closing is indicative of nothing more than that. If there really was somesort of non-white flight taking place would these not be the first to go? The number of wealthy ethnic miniorities has never been higher so rising house prices should not necessarily discriminate against non-white residents. As an aside, I'm sure we'd all welcome decent members of society into the community regardless of demographic. Perhaps the question is really: "Is ED becoming a more, or less, pleasant place to live given the current demographic shift?" I can't really comment as a relative newcomer (and being one of the young, white, middle-class culprits I'd be biased ;-))but I'd be interested in others opinions.
  11. It's the old paradox of whether your opinions are formed according to what newspaper you buy, or whether your pre-formed opinions make you select a certain type of newspaper thus re-inforcing your initial beliefs. It's quite a tricky one.
  12. The Uplands is pretty awful. Cavernous interior with no atmosphere. Unfirendly staff and clientele. Bitter was served so cold it was nearly a solid and my girlfriend's "cocktail" was A large glass of ribena with gin in it - and an umbrella! Apparently it has rooms.
  13. Rock!.....oz style Wolfmother - Woman
  14. You know East Dulwich has gone upmarket when.... ;-)
  15. That Herbaliser track got me thinking about what I used to listen to at uni, often is a haze of smoke, or at clubs. This was a perennial favourite: Mr Scruff - Get A Move On Also: And finally for the hazy moments:

I saw them live around the time it came out and to get all the guest vocalists to turn up was something special. I've lost the cd so this brings back some great memories. Thanks.
  17. If anyone is on FaceBook and has the Scrabulous application I'm always up for a game.
  18. Surely Jessica Rabbit is the ultimate redhead? Perhaps I shouldn't be starting a trend of posting provocative pictures of attractive woman on a public forum but....what the heck... http://formo.free.fr/a_la_maniere_de/images/Amblin_JessicaRabbit.jpg
  19. This is slightly embarassing but the episode of ER where Mark Green dies in Hawaii (sorry if that's ruined it for anyone but it was years ago, where have you been?) has this song - it was one of the most powerful bits of television drama I had seen and always brings a small lump to my throat despite being a really cheery song: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow
  20. During one school holiday I worked in a warehouse packaging sunglasses. This involved putting the box together, sticking those little stickers on the lenses, putting in the dust wipe thing etc. You sat at a big table with loads of middle aged woman, most of whom didn't speak any English (or at least not enough for a conversation) and did the same thing over and over. 9 hour shifts with only half an hour for lunch. Minimum wage. Ridiculous security to ensure you didn't pinch any of these ?15 pieces of crap. I lasted two days. :'(
  21. Thomas Brolin...oh god, make it stop.

What a true "white > Rose" yorkshire man he turned out to be despite > his pledges of loyality. As Jim Royle would say > "Loyalty, my arse!!" I think the case for Alan Smith is that Leeds were in desperate need of cash by that stage. Smith knew this and agreed to be sold, Man Utd offered a reasonable sum and we had to take it. I don't think Smudger betrayed us (although kissing the ManU badge was a bit much) but didn't really have much choice. Kewell on the other hand... As for Wise and Poyet - They didn't exactly set the world on fire last season but there was a hell of a lot going on behind the scenes that I don't think anyone would believe. When your own captain gives the opposition your tactics you're in trouble. We were the target of much speculation of takeovers and I think a new owner would have got rid of Wise. As it is he's stayed and now looks to be doing a good job so all credit to him. I think Poyet will be a big loss and needs replacing pronto with someone decent, Ray Wilkins has been talked up but personally I'm not keen. One day we'll be back up there....MOT
  23. It would be equally nice to, once again, deny you the title on the last day of the season whilst avoiding relegation. Do you remember that one too, Atilla? :)) I thought Wise was a bit of a to*&er as well, but he compliments the Elland Road attitude. Similar tot that of Millwall - no one likes us...we don't care. If anything it has created a siege mentality that is working brilliantly for us. See this article in yesterday's Guardian for an example of the baying crowd at ER getting the better of the opposition.

The mighty whites now have an army of three in East Dulwich alone. Welcome to the club Angst - Clare and I thought we were the only brick throwers around these parts ;-) Cracking result on Saturday. Wise is up for Manager of the Moth again - results on Thurs afternoon. Massive game on Saturday against Carlisle. Win that and then against Bournemouth on the Tuesday and we could be top of the league! Marching on Together. ps. I've got a feeling there are a couple of televised games on Sky, we should try and get together and see if a pub will put them on for us.
