  2. Oh, in that case you should be Rod Hull and Emu.
  3. I'd always thought of you more as Cannon and Ball.
  4. Alan, any non-Camberwell ethnicity in your background you'd like to publicly confess to here and now, whilst the goings good. Then Sean can give as good as he gets.
  5. I'm the third person to live opposite and have only been once. Food was ok but service was a bit naff. I won't be crying into my onion soup over its loss. An italian? As long as it's not the Strada style place then this is excellent news.
  6. Debates on the rights/wrongs of any of the following: Chains Gentrification House prices Schools and their respective qualities Gift shops and products therein Regeneration And on a more whimsical note, people in rush hour with wheeled luggage. If you must drag those bloody things around PLEASE look around you to check you are not inadvertantly knee-capping or toe-amputating those around you. (6)
  7. It's not just the atmosphere that's cold. If you're a bitter/real ale drinker, don't bother. My pint, of I think Boddingtons or Tetleys Smoothflow (which was the only non-lager choice), nearly froze my hand to the glass. Also, my girlfriend ordered a cocktail (not perhaps something a pub should excel at - but either do it well or don't offer it) and it resembled a pint(!) of alcoholic ribena. Not unappealing, just not a cosmopolitan either.
  8. This was a favourite of mine:
  9. Well I'm 24 and think I was about 8-10 when it was on tv. Everyone always thinks kids tv was best for their generation but in our case....it really was!!
  10. Knightmare was one of my all time faves. Quite scary for a little 'un. The fact that, at the end, they would be frozen in the game until next week gave me the creeps. As embellina says, the contestants were the type of kids to get bullied at school. For the day, the technology was amazing. Did any team ever win it? I don't think I ever saw anyone make it to the end. The theme tune is a great atmospheric sound. Ahhh, memories.

Ditto...eventually got a private let off Gumtree for ?1000 pcm but that was 6 months ago.
  12. Not to mention the sign highlights "specialty" and "organic" beers. Looked through the window on Sunday and what could I see? Fosters, budweiser, abbots ale and newcastle brown. Err...
  13. Ah yes, that's the Southern operated service on the Victoria/London Bridge loop isn't it? Bloody ridiculous state of affairs. The most grating announcements are always when ticket prices go up and some badly dressed lick spittle, from whatever train operating company happens to be lining its shareholders profits that month, says that it is to reduce numbers travelling at peak times! Do they think I get on a train at that time out of choice?! It's because I have a job to get to where if you arrive at 10.30am it is viewed as a sign of langour, not a wise, money-saving decision to travel off-peak thus alleviating transport conditions for fellow commuters. Simpletons. Re-nationalise the whole bloody lot. Even this government couldn't be as bad as South-Eastern. At least run it as a not-for-profit organisation like Network Rail. I feel a whole new thread coming on.....
  14. It has disappeared from the TfL journey planner too. That's definite then. Just checked South Eastern Trains website and as of December 9th that train no longer exists! You are quite correct in also noticing that the 8.55 is supposed to be a minute earlier. No wonder the 8.12 has been a lot busier recently - people having to go to work earlier. The buggers could have told us, or made it more obvious than some pidd-ly little sign somewhere stealthily announcing it. So....Peckham Rye to Victoria on a weekday morning is now either: 7.55 8.12 8.32 8.54 Not what you'd call frequent.
  15. And this is the proposed extensions for the East London Line: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/EastLondonLineRouteMap.png Edited for spelling.
  16. I think this is the map referred to: http://www.edwardtufte.com/bboard/images/00005Y-11.gif

Acording ITV football stats the following is true: Sheffield United - Average attendance 24763 http://itv.stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D1/attend.html Leeds United - Avergae attendance 25014 http://itv.stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/attend.html Oh well, I'm sure it'll be no consolation when we kick your arse next season. Hulse might even be fit by then. ;-)
  18. An Ipswich fan turned up in Sheffield the other week... With it being his first visit to Bramall Lane the guy wasn't sure on where to go so decided he'd better ask a passer-by for directions... "Excuse me sir could you please tell me how to get to Bramall Lane?" "Yeah mate, Just follow the crowds" Needless to say the poor Ipswich fan ended up outside Tesco's.

Good investment that! B) Be seeing you again next season...well, provided you stay up of course.
  20. There are some Leeds fans knocking around...Marching On Together! SimonM...."one of the Sheffield clubs" eh? There'll be trouble afoot soon enough.
  21. I might be able to attend this if that's ok. What time are festivities planning to kick-off?
  22. Back on the blues theme: Leadbelly - Midnight Special And a more modern take:
  23. Not wishing to turn this thread into one on Chener Books (which I think has been done before) but I think they are wonderful. The shabby exterior (and interior if we're being honest) belies helpful and knowledgable staff and an excellent stock selection. It is quality not quantity. Their appearance is not really the issue. Everyone was proclaiming how they loved the frontage of the tyre shop nr Moxons cbecasue it was old 'n' stuff - this is the same. If they were a sign shop it might be worth having a gripe over but really, when buying books does it really matter. On chains, as a whole, the homogeneity of many high streets is very depressing. People pick on some indy shops due to their perceived grubby or shabby-ness but it's horses for courses. Whilst not all chains are evil corporate slave drivers not all local shops will be nik nak boutiques with fancy window displays. AJ Farmers looks pretty shabby but have you ever tried to find their stock elsewhere?
