Isn't MM just a typo for MSM?...

Allegedly that was war gaming a worst case scenario, probably deliberately leaked to see the reaction from the public, that's how this populist Gov rolls. The problem with that is when the inevitable row back happens they come across as dithering, haven't known a Gov perform so many u-turns over it's lifetime yet alone in it's first year, never a good look. Populism has always been easy answers/promises to difficult problems/situations. It can thrive under a concept like Brexit but withers when it meets reality, in this case, Covid. Johnson assumed his premiership would be defined by delivering an 'oven ready Brexit' (which, surprise, surprise, doesn't exist) and instead it's been trumped by Covid...

It's not young v old though is it, there's a vast swathe in between. If you had to choose between quarantining oldies or the rest, oldies wins every time for the simple reason they are more vulnerable to the virus...

Normally when someone dies without a will, Probate or letters of Administration is required. This is a handy guide, under LoA it is possible for nieces to apply... https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/family/death-and-wills/dealing-with-the-financial-affairs-of-someone-who-has-died/ But I would check with CAB first that this ok in your situation before going forward...

Final scores on the doors... Week 31 points... Final table... Congratulations Meds, always difficult to catch someone once they build up a healthy lead, trophy still at the engravers. Thanks to everyone who took part, it all starts again in a couple of months so I'll post details of new league and password as soon as. I just managed to avoid the ignominy of going from first to last in the Fantasy league, not a vintage year all round. Enjoy the rest of the summer...

I don't think the numbers do stack up when it comes to project funding, those sums won't get you much. Had you pointed the finger at the waste of tax payers' money on mayoral vanity projects e.g. Johnson's Garden Bridge (?53m) then you would have a better argument, but even then that's down to the mayor rather than the office of mayor. There needs to be more accountability when public money is thrown away like that...

Whittens down from Peckham library has lots of wood off-cuts, might work out cheaper than buying a whole sheet, they will cut to size too, around 50p a cut. The off-cuts include solid lengths of timber e.g. ash, walnut, oak etc, great for shelves and some are big enough for table tops. A great place to explore for anyone who fancies themselves as a DIYer...

Why are UK pubs reopening on......a Saturday??
diable rouge replied to DovertheRoad's topic in The Lounge
Don't forget, the Gov's initial strategy in dealing with the virus was one of 'herd immunity', allowing the virus to spread among the population until it runs out of hosts and dies out naturally. It was only the optics of the NHS being overwhelmed with body bags that made them change this strategy to a lockdown. What we're seeing now is a return to the 'herd immunity' approach. It started with the 'common sense' campaign, put the onus on the people, it they catch it, it's their fault. And if the poll on Peston last week is anything to go by, it's working as to who the public will blame if there's a second wave... -

Not many pubs have a licence to open at 6am KK, you might get the odd one around the early morning markets e.g. Smithfields. I'll be surprised if any of the pubs along LL will have one. Here are the licence details of the EDT...http://app.southwark.gov.uk/licensing/LicPremisesGrantedDetails.asp?systemkey=872457 -

I read somewhere that only those pubs with an existing licence to open at 6am will be able to do so. I suspect the numbers that can are small... -
