The referendum being an advisory vote rather than a legally binding vote actually aided the Leave side, because had it been legally binding the referendum could've been anulled due to the Vote Leave campaign breaking electoral laws...

I heard a couple of banger like noises, but equally it could've been a Deliveroo scooter back-firing. Very anti-climatic...and very fitting.

Approving of the EU is in itself engaging with it. I've always been happy for us to be in the EU, I'm old enough to remember when we were called 'the poor man of Europe' before we joined, the country was on it's knees. I liked the underlying reasons why the EU had been formed after WW2. I liked that collectively we could stand up to the big hitters like the US and China. On a more personal level I partook in the Erasmus scheme, have friends who met through it, married and now live in Europe. In recent years I have embraced what FoM brought to UK citizens as well as Europeans, travelling freely round Europe with the option to work and/or live there, or in my dotage to even retire there. I engaged with the EU by the very fact I didn't bleat on about it and blame it for every problem going. > I'm glad you find it hilarious though. At least I > can bring a small amount of joy to you dark and > disastrous existence in brexit Britain. I have a very happy existence thank you very much, and I'll survive Brexit. However, some of us look at the bigger picture and my concern is for future generations who will have to pick up the tab...

Cat, did Leavers ever engage to help make our relationship with the EU as successful a possible? Like feck they did. Your lack of self=awareness is hilarious...and tiresome.

Personally I'm very excited and will be on tenterhooks all day, every free moment will be spent watching Sky's live coverage and the countdown clock, until that glorious moment at midnight Brussels time when I will be raising a glass of champagne to celebrate the closing of the transfer window...

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My Only gripe is with Brussels telling us what we > can and cannot do. This is the 'them and us' attitude that many Brexiters have, and they continually fail to see that the reality is(was) in fact 'we', because the UK has been a major player in the EU, we were contributing to the rules and laws. It was even a Brit that wrote the Article 50 process. Perhaps if the European Parliament had been based in the UK they would've thought differently, but doubtful as we see this same attitude with our own Parliament and the 'Westminster bubble'...

No worries nxjen, if you go to Control Panel and then System, it will show you Windows 10 details including the product ID number. This is a useful tutorial on the whole process and it's how I found out how to change 10's tile layout back to 7's classic look...

A good time to remind everyone what the Vote Leave campaign promised back in 2016, namely that EU citizens would be automatically granted indefinite leave to remain. This promise was signed by both Johnson and Patel. Having to apply for ''settled status'' isn't automatic, and many who have already applied have only been given ''pre-settled status'', meaning they have to re-apply when they can prove five years of residence in the UK...

First it was meant to all happen as soon as > we voted to leave, then it was when article 50 was > triggered, then it was when we leave, now it's > after a transition period.... The oft quoted BoE prediction that there would be a recession straight after we voted Leave also had a caveat that never gets mentioned, namely that the prediction was based on BoE not intervening fiscally. However, after the vote they did so by dropping interest rates and increasing QE, well known remedies for helping to boost an economy. What these actions couldn't stall though was the crash of Sterling (something which the BoE also predicted) and it's only recently that someone has tried to quantify the effect of that crash. This has been picked up by the respected financial journalist Peter Foster, until recently working at the Telegraph all through the Brexit process, but recently having moved to the FT. This is his take on it. For those that don't read links, it's not good... As for other predictions of doom I don't recall any apart from the threat of No Deal and the chaos that would follow, a view the Gov's own assessments backed, something which also happened to be created by Leavers - remember ''No Deal is better than a bad deal''? No Deal and the ensuing chaos is still looming on the horizon at the end of the year. It's not a prediction, it's a fact, unless we negotiate a deal by the end of the year or extend the transition period...

We never paid ?350m up front, so it was misleading to state that figure would be going to the NHS instead of the EU. The independent UK Statistics Authority described it as ?a clear misuse of official statistics?. As well as the rebate the UK also got other monies back from the EU, bringing the ?250m figure down further...
