Or have a really garlicky lunch and FART like hell on the way home. Don't try to hide the fact so as to give them a chance to question you..upon which you can retort "I'll stop farting when you stop being so inconsiderate yourself". If this is too much to manage, another trick I have is to start clipping my nails (hands - though feel free to make it your toes) ensuring that the bits fly in their direction. If that doesn't work, I then take out a pot of nail varnish and start painting my nails - it REALLY pongs (can actually be more irritating than a fart). Or crunching a really crunchy bag of crisps (Kettles do the job nicely) in their direction so as to distort the conversation eminating from the caller - ensuring, of course, that as many crumbs as possible land on their lap. And you thought I was a lady!
  2. ...in plain English please, because I haven't a clue. Once again, thanks everso much.
  3. Dear Mr. SMBJones, PHEW! That's a relief! Thank you SO much. As for your neck being in the noose, I think this is quite unlikely - you are FAR too valuable to us ALIVE!!! ... the peasants would revolt!! Once again, enormous thanks for everything. Ladymuck. 5. Hello Mr. SMBJones, I don't wish to sound ungrateful (I really really don't, given ALL you have achieved for us all to date), BUT, does this now mean that the station will no longer be open in the mornings? If so, what is the logic for this? Respectfully yours, Ladymuck. 6. Sorry to interrupt the flow of good old academia here, but does anyone know how the victim of this horrendous crime is?
  7. Oh pooh and double-poohs! I have meekly retreated behind you in the queue Sophiesofa...I assumed (being a Lady and all) my station might permit my Ladyship to queue-jump. It just goes to show that One should never assume - no matter what One's position. But, who the bloody-hell is "Cilla"!!!??? Unless she is the Queen of the Railways, then she is definitely behind me!!!! Sorry admin...couldn't resist.
  8. Dear Mr. SMBJones, You may remember that I told you of my cynical hubbie who thought you were having us all on with a massive April Fools. Well, he went to inspect ED station today and, as a result of this inspection, has asked me to report that he is amazed at what you have achieved with the extra bins, the extra seats and how clean it all looks etc. etc.!!! Good on you Mr. SMBJones! Now to the real reason for this posting, has Sophiesofa retracted her offer yet?! I am waiting very patiently!
  9. Unkle-Paulie, I reckon that you and SMBJones (station manager)should hold joint place for forumites of the month. Well done you. And thanks for your useful work. LM.
  10. Barry, If you turn down Sophiesofa's offer, can I be next in line! ? I know you don't want praise, but you are one in a trillion. Huge thanks. By the way, my cynical husband doesn't believe that you exist - he thinks someone is having us all on...like an extended April Fools!
  11. PeckhamRose said : "And yes trollies, and could they clean the loos more regularly?" - WHICH loos! I've been shopping there since the store opened and I wasn't aware of any loos! Where are they? I must be as blind as a bat! In which case, yes bring back the big clock also!
  12. Barry, Welcome to ED. You sound absolutely lovely - boy you have got your work cut out! Bet you regret coming on the forum, we are a demanding lot at ED! We need more people like you. I wish you all the best.
  13. Diana, I am SO sorry about Terry...geepers is right, Terry was very brave with his illness (as are you) as he had been battling with it for absolutely ages. He really was a lovely man, kind and quietly spoken - with that gorgeous head of hair which I used to love touching just to see him blush! I will PM geepers. My heart goes out to you.
  14. Have just seen JetSetWilly's comment: "don,t get me started on organic onions, bloody rip-off, as is most organic stuff"...it made me laugh because there is actually an organic onion called "JetSet"!!! Sorry folks...sorry admin. (I do think that's funny though).
  15. Louisa, I totally agree with you - I was incensed when I saw the same thing happening. Were the park wardens able to do anything about it?
  16. Today I attended MGMP for an appointment. It was for a "female problem" (down below)which would require an examination - and in view of this I had specifically booked with a female doctor. On my arrival I was told that the female doctor had not turned up and that I was now booked with a male - but was re-assured that when it came to the "exam" part of the appointment that I should request that a female nurse attends. Not brilliant, but fine. A lady came in, I was told to strip off and bare all and to lie on the couch in a position consistent with providing the doctor and lady with a good accessible view of my vagina/anus/peehole etc. Whilst in that rather degrading position it suddenly dawned on me that the lady was not in fact a nurse, but one of the receptionists! I asked the obvious question and my fears were confirmed. By then, she had seen all, so I proceeded with the examination. However, my question is: IS THIS RIGHT? Or am I overeacting?
  17. Judging by your many comments on the Forum, it seems that problems with post in ED are growing. Regrettably, instead of acknowledging the problem, Royal Mail make it as difficult as possible for us to get redress. Getting in touch by phone takes at least half an hour of hanging around, with them promising to get in touch within X amount of days. My experience is that you often have to waste a further half an hour chasing them up because they haven't got back as promised. If you are "lucky", you might get palmed off with a book of 1st class stamps as compensation or you may be fobbed off with a very sincere-sounding assurance that the problem has been passed on to ED sorting office and that everything should be hunky dory from now on. Or, you may be ignored, or - at worst - you will merely be told that there doesn't appear to be any particular problem with ED. Complaining by letter is not much better, as RM often state that they didn't receive your complaint (enough said!). And as for their web-site...whilst it IS possible to contact them via a very circuituous route - the process is not made easy. I now have an email address for those of you who wish to vent your frustrations about our postal "service". It is: [email protected]. Ensure you head your email "COMPLAINT", because then they HAVE to deal with it under the terms of their own complaints procedure knowing that failure to do so may give the customer the right to instead use the Ombudsman-style service (most ombudsman services will not get involved unless it can be shown that a company's own complaints procedure has been exhausted). As alluded to above, RM insist that there isn't an issue with our postal service. However, a member of RM's Customer Services recently advised me to contact them EVERY time a problem arises - no matter how small. That way, she said, RM can build up a picture of any problem and take "appropriate action" against ED sorting office. So, get complaining - and let the Forum know how you get on. The more evident the problem on the forum, the more ammunition/evidence we all have when the day comes to utilising the Ombudsman-type service. We DO have the power to change things for the better.
