  1. Narnia, does your other-three-quarters' car have an alarm? I had this problem for years - in the days of driving an old mini. It turned out that the alarm system, whilst good for keeping thieves off, was completely unsuitable for the little car: it drained the battery like mad, resulting in non-starters or even breakdowns at traffic lights. In the end, I simply decided to risk the car being stolen by leaving the alarm off. It did the trick.
  2. Hey Georgia, a very happy birthday to you. Enjoy!:)-D xx
  3. You'll be nursing far more than a cough soon enough, Master Quids . *pushes the insubordinate little sod into the bath*
  4. What Lady Kat and Hibbsy said. Big fat hugs xx
  5. Oh of course! How dense am I? LOL!!! I was being facetious. I actually thought it stood for "till later then". Muhahahahahahahaha! That'll teach me... Erm...bike tyres and drain covers? No I don't recall them being discussed...but be my guest...in fact, I insist! Lady Mock.
  6. Hmmmmmm...you're definitely a bloke... But what has The Literary Times got to do with anything?
  7. Smile? Mr. McCabe, I nearly crapped my pantaloons! I thought he was going to get crushed between the juggernauts. Phew, that was close!
  8. THANK YOU for that B_S...and no, I hadn't seen it. It didn't shock me though as I am aware of the problem, though I suspect there are many cyclists out there who have no idea of just how large that blind spot is... Basically, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER undertake a lorry. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, cycle along the inside because, for example, you intend turning left. In the absence of suitable positioning - just remain behind it - it's no shame. It's just not worth it.. I think your link is a good one to repeat every so often - it's amazing how, even amongst cylists aware of the dangers, how tempting it is for them to put them at the back of their minds when, for example, running late. Gives me the shivers.
  9. Given the issues involved, I am reposting the link to this petition as it has got lost amongst the trivia. Well done to those who have signed so far. So, if you are interested in helping to reduce cyclist deaths caused by HGVs, then (if you haven't already done so) please sign the London Cycling Campaign's petition: here. It really does only take a few secs. Merci.
  10. So, putting aside any mention of the D-word, are these cuts really designed to address our "culture of litigation" or, will they simply hit some of our most vulnerable at a time when they might probably need Legal Aid the most? Having worked in this area for many years and seen at first hand how valuable LA is, I think this is a real step backwards. If the proposed cuts take place, access to justice will be denied not only to many who can least afford it, but also to those in the most vulnerable of positions - effectively possibly opening them up to exploitation in the areas of housing, employment, immigration, and benefits etc. The knock on effect could be wide-ranging as e.g. Citizens Advice Bureaux and Law Centres find their funding either savagely reduced or withdrawn.
  11. Je suis impressed ImpetuousVrouw!
  12. Je n'ai aucune id?e! Madame Mock.
  13. Cheers Lil Bro.
  14. A great idea? Gawd...help us all! PS: we don't receive Southwark News (far too posh round our way), but there is a stand outside an estate agent which holds them...if I remember to do so, I shall procure one for you. Presumably you want the one published after this Sunday (i.e. following your cycling marathon) - yes?

  16. Decathlon sell these...don't know how loud they are though. Certainly, they seem a bargain at ?3.99. Looks as though they come with a 2-year guarantee too!

  18. Gloves: once a month Anti-pollution mask: once a fortnight Helmet: never (just had a sniff - doesn't smell - but then it is ventilated and I do wear a hat underneath in cold weather). Dragon's Den is hubby's favourite programme, I'll ask him to watch out for you. I hope you never get to hear "I'm out". Good luck.
  19. Ben, check out Mr. McCabe's thread in the What's On Section: here for details of a ride this weekend. Also, check out my own thread for other rides (and cycling chat): here. ENJOY!
  20. World Aids Day ride (plus other rides): details here

  24. Weegee Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I would also like a co-host and thought of my > very good friend and neighbour , Ladymuck! Awwwww Weegee, you are lovely...even though you mocked my Man. U scarf! But do you know what? You are doing SUCH a fabulous job here that I wouldn't dream of cramping your style, unless we agree here and now that co-hosting simply means I turn up, gossip, mess about, drink sambuca and get sozzled. How does that sound? Anyway, you got the (tu) from the lovely Georgia - and, frankly, you couldn't have asked for a bigger and better accolade. Good on you dear friend for taking this on - a very courageous move indeed (as well as a hard act to follow). Of course, if you get stuck (but you won't), you only have to ask - but then you know that anyway. So, here's to your first (I am hoping this won't be your last) organisation of the EDF Drinks. And I look forward to buying you an inaugural pint. Cheers Weegee :)-D. xx
