Do you know where this kid lives? If so, tell the police and (provided you can prove that it's yours) you should be able to get it back - whether the kid paid for it or not as, legally, it remains yours (I think). I really wouldn't advocate violence. Good luck.

Did anyone manage to watch Monday's programme Unequal Opportunities With John Humphrys on the attainment gap in education between wealthy/poorer pupils?

Deleted on the advice of a good forum friend.

Ah ha! Just what I suspected all along! Thank you for that. Add to that the fact that there is very little in the way of legal aid/representation and both case and sentence are decided by judges (as opposed to an impartial jury), then it becomes clear as to why so many defendants, who in another country might have escaped with a non-custodial sentence, end up in Singaporean cells.

Not many people appear to know this but Parmesan isn't vegetarian.
Ladymuck replied to wee quinnie's topic in The Lounge
Are you talking about animal rennet wee quinnie? If so, I think you'll find that Parmesan isn't the only "non-veggie" cheese...Gorgonzola and Grana Padano to name but a couple. -
Thanks for that Huguenot...you have your uses being in Singapore! Returning to the issue of prison populations (sorry, but I suddenly have this thirst for finding out more :-S), I just couldn't resist doing some googling. I came across this graph (which incidentally backs up what DC was saying). It goes some way to showing a link between imprisonment and income inequality (though in the case of Singapore, I still think there may be other factors at play). http://www.equalitytrust.org.uk/images/imprisonment.gif

However, you are wrong to assume that I was "keen to accuse" - I was not. Indeed, until that post, I had actually been holding back until I eventually lost my cool. As for the other posts you mention, they did not mention me. > Instead of high-horses let's talk about mountains > and mole-hills. The few (often hypothetical) > negatives people have raised about the letter in > question are in effect very small beer compared to > the bigger issues. Sean, what one person considers important, another may view as trivial (even frivolous). So what you may deem "small beer" may in fact be a really big deal to someone else. I think it is arrogant to suggest otherwise. >But going around calling people "bizarre" for saying as much isn't likely to engender much good feeling yourself I didn't call anyone "bizarre". Go back and read that post. What I said was that many of those who [didn't give a toss] appeared to be completely missing the point. The "bizarre" referred to the fact that (IMO) many appeared to be doing so. I.e. I found this odd. > And as for people according Keef's opinions > respect - he and I have often clashed on here, but > as he has been here from the year dot, posted more > than anyone else, any one of us can get a general > vibe of where Keef is coming from, and no matter > how many times I clash with him, I respect his > opinions regardless. I should have said "lack of relevance".

Sorry - another X-post. Previous post in response to Keef's last.

Can I be bothered to respond (intelligently) to this cut/paste/take out of context exercise? No.

Keef, I started this thread because I was unsure of my own reaction to the letter and it was an attempt to seek the views of others. Whilst I hadn't envisaged the depth of feeling as evidenced by the various posts, I am not disappointed in that posters have been forthcoming and honest with their thoughts. I find the differing opinions interesting and (for the most part) helpful which, in turn, make for a readable thread. That is, until Keef the poster comes along, makes negative assumptions about people he may or may not know and/or generally passes unpleasant comments which are hardly conducive to the spirit of this Forum. Your opinions are as valid as anyone's. However, it you want others to accord them respect then, it is my belief that you should show some courtesy to the sentiments of others without getting personal or creating ill feeling.
