I'll never forget the first time I met my father-in-law. I know he didn't! (Rest in Peace Mr. Dad-in-Law). I knocked at his door, he answered and I burst out laughing and carried on doing so for a good 30 seconds. I think I pointed too. It's just that he had exactly the same humongous, bulbous, and ski-slope-type-nose as his son. I couldn't believe it. I didn't think it was possible that there should be two in this world. Fortunately, Dad-in-Law had a wonderful sense of humour and we ended up being chums till the day he died.

The first time I actually met you/spoke to you was months later when I was out with friends one Saturday. You will recall that it was I who went over to you to introduce myself as you were sitting with several other forumites. Whilst I had earlier today agreed to meet up with you to "clear the air", having now seen your defamatory statements I no longer wish to meet you. Furthermore, as I also stated - please do not PM me any more. I am now leaving this thread on the advice of a good forum friend. I shall not respond to further posts.

However, given your latest post Keef, regrettably I now feel compelled to respond. *long weary sigh, coupled with a hint of sadness" Presumably you are both referring to this? from the Nunhead Forum? mikecg wrote: ---------------- > That poster had it in for me the > minute I arrived on the site... Me (under a different username): -------------------------------- mikecg, sorry I have just walked into this...I am concerned as what you have said here has rung some very loud bells. Was the...shall we say...ringleader...who was responsible for the behaviour described by you a female member of the EDF with a poster name beginning with "a". I apologise in advance if I am wrong, but I too have suffered my share of...I'm not too sure what to call it...but it was far from pleasant. I was merely wondering if we were talking about the same person. Forgive me if I am speaking out of turn. So, to answer your question - no, my post was not intended "to cause illwill towards that person". I was concerned that the humiliation to which I had been subjected might also have been inflicted upon another user, and I wished to establish (from that other user) whether "we were talking about the same person". My apologies if my post was unclear.

HAL9000 Wrote: ----------------------------------------------------- > ...If anyone has any issues with my > opinions, my posting style, or me, I invite them > to get it off their chest: good or bad... My dearest friend HAL9000, I am not quite sure what you hope to achieve from your...ahem...shall we say, invitation?...if I am to be frank, it strikes me as slightly bonkers. But so be it. However, as you have posted, I thought I should respond, though I would hope that you already know the answer. I believe your opinions to be as valid as anybody's (including Huguenot's). The overwhelming majority of them are usually well researched, based on rational thought and sound logic. This, coupled with your manifest wealth of knowledge results in posts which are interesting and stimulating. Your posting style? Ah, that's easy - your posts are my favourite (and Huguenot's come in at a very close second incidentally). When I see "last post HAL9000" I am immediately excited at the prospect of being informed, exhilarated and entertained all at once. Your wit and distinctive style amuses me too - even where, it is clear, that was not your intention (in any event one can never laugh too much in this life IMO) . You? What, other than the fact that I find you utterly adorable? Well, you did ask!

I believe that if you buy 6 bottles at Sainsbury's, that you get 5% off?

Yes Huguenot, please? - then we can all return to the lounge and flake out on the sofas. Incidentally Huguenot, the Drawing Room is pretty dead without you...I really cannot be bothered to venture in there at present.

Fair point RosieH. However, I felt that, given the nature of BN5's post, that the hypocrisy contained therein needed to be exposed. Ahem...I am far from convinced that you genuinely believed that the other forumite in question and I "had made up" given that I have made several (public) pleas to the concerned individual to make up but have received none other than further snubbing. And what am I to make of the incident at the Clockhouse recently - pray tell? Actually, don't answer. It cannot lead to any good, and in any event, could be viewed as off topic.
-
Are you addressing me BN5? Not that it makes any difference.

bignumber5 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ...when your lightening combo of bullying > style and banal content had chased off a > moderator > ...And now you appear to have contributed to the departure of > another interesting (if occasionally prevocative) > forumite I too like to be candid. BN5, you speak of HAL9000 chasing mockney (and now Huguenot) off the forum. You who condoned another forumite's conduct (your wife's) - who deliberately posted false allegations, was responsible for a one-sided smear campaign and was the causative factor behind unnecessary ill-feeling at a forum drinks with her malicious snub-crusade the aim of which was to force another forumite (me) off the forum. As it turned out, I chose not to leave; however, that fact does not make your behaviour any the less deplorable in the same way that simply because X shoots at Y with the intention of killing but misses does not render the motive behind the attempted murder any the less atrocious than had death taken place. Thus, your post strikes me as hypocritical and redolent of double standards.

RosieH Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- >...I know LM you're just trying to make > things nicer, but I'm not sure it helps. >...that leads me to give some credence to Huguenot's > comments about HAL's intentions. And you consider that to comment on HAL9000's intentions in this way to be helpful? I do not believe, for one second, that HAL9000's intentions were not pure. He merely had an opposing view, felt strongly about it, and expressed himself in his usual manner. As with Huguenot, HAL9000 makes for a more stimulating and exhilarating forum. I wouldn't wish for either of them to go. Sorry for all the edits: still upset.

For those who would like to see a photo of both HAL9000 and Huguenot... ...the body language says it all though.

And I'll chuck in some (orgasmic) Pecan Pies! *raises glass of Bellendo Prosecco to LB* Mind you, our Fisking Expert is in Singapore...but I am happy to deliver when I next visit!
-
PS: Couldn't Huguenot and HAL9000 both come on here and (virtually) make up and shake hands? And just accept their differences. Would that be so difficult? I believe they both contribute massively to this forum, and if either of them left it would be an enormous loss to this fabulous forum. Am I naive? Probably.
-
What Moos and LB have said. Please don't leave Huguenot...you are a major and valuable contributor to this forum. I cannot promise never to fisk ever again, nor never to lob tomatoes at you when I believe you are pushing your luck, nor never to slap you when you are blatantly out of order...but I would love you to stay nevertheless because I enjoy (the majority of) your posts and (as someone very dear to me recently said) "sparring" with you on here. x Edit to say: what Keef said too. And thrice more, because this issue has upset me and I have fallen out with someone very dear to me over this issue and hence I am currently not quite "with it".
