sillywoman, I get that, My question was do they work on top of that, but missed the 5 hours a day max, so its possible to do extra work on top of that. I just hadn't met any au pairs that worked anywhere else outside their families, but clearly some of them do out of necessity.
-
That's interesting, so how do they live on ?60 per week. Do they work elsewhere on top of that?

Hi has anyone from the herne hill/sunray estate area got children starting school at Bessemer Grange in September? All of my sons nursery friends in this area will be going to a different school. I know it seems a bit premature, but the summer holidays will be here before you know it. We are reasonably new to the area, and having built up a good network of friends and playmates, they are all going to a different school. My son has a history of taking time to settle in, maybe if he saw a few familiar faces, it would make the course a little easier for him.

Presumably their email/website is still up and you could get there number from there. Sonia is usually pretty good at getting back. Try this number hopefully it works. good luck Tel: 020 8693 8726

Renata could you explain why some have been allocated a random school and others have been offered nothing until tomorrow ? This is not explained by eadmissions, and is very unfair

Leaving toddlers alone to have their tantrum
bodsier replied to WorkingMummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think its ok to be there with her when she has her tantrums, but I think its important for her to know that hurting people is not ok, and maybe vocalising that she should have 'time out' to calm down in those instances, I am not suggesting that you do not vocalise, its just that you hadn't mentioned it. I think they may feel abandoned if this is not vocalised. There is a parenting course at The parent Practice in clapham that might be worth looking at. It deals with this and other situations. I found this really interesting, and helpful. Sounds like the book you mentioned is on the same page, along with 'Raising an emotionally intelligent child'. Somehow I found that a course with homework to do each week put things into perspective. Not cheap mind, but then children aren't are they! -
yes i watched the program and ageee with peterstorm. I couldn't see the point un trying to model a supermarket when you cant compete wirh prices and variety. Taking into account convenient shopping times, i think a model based on weighing ad buying your grain and plses etc and selling locally home made non refridgerated goods may be tne way to go.i would not want to to responsible for putting any small shops out if business. Maybe its about supermarkets not having a monopoly. If grain is cheaper, then perhaps people sill shop at other local shops more as would be more convenient. I know i spent next to nothing tis way and rarely shopped in supermarkets. They are not always cheaper. Selling cleaning products anc tins of beans can be left to ghe supermarkts and poples market can sell grain and some our our home grown produce hen i season? We can hve our own model just use aspects of the concept. Something to discuss in a meeting. it can ablways develop into more later. Louisana maybe we can have a meeting with all interested parties. Count me in excuse the typos....typed on mobile....not an iphone

well anyway this is about the peoples supermarket, I wish i hadn't mentioned waitrose. Can anyone tell me where the workshop is please?

WHAT WORKSHOP ARE YOU REFERRING TO? I WOULD LIKE TO COME, WHERE AND WHEN PLEASE LOUISIANA?

Hi there A short while back James Barber started a thread re Waitrose or a peoples supermarket. He didn't seem to get much response on the peoples market, though most people were vehemently opposed to a waitrose. The Peoples supermarket is based on a model that is being shown on Sunday on Channel 4 and either 8pm. Cheaper food run by the community, for the community. Its a series, so hopefully you can catch at least one of them to get an idea. I am definately up for a peoples supermarket, and would be willing to volunteer hours to help. Here's the link to explain more, and if more people are interested, perhaps we can make it happen? http://www.londonsdc.org/londonleaders/project_info.aspx?ID=31

James although you mentioned waitrose and M&S, I note you also mentioned ;The Peoples Supermarket'. I think maybe that was missed judging by most of the replies. I really like the idea of that. I lived in Kennington many years ago, and they had a similar shop called NO'BODIES BUSINESS. I think it is still running. There are many people in the area who make wonderful produce and I think it would be wo0nderful for the community if we introduced our own shop with our own produce and our own efforts. it worked really well and I would definately be interested in volunteering my services. I really don't want another generic supermarmarket on Lordship lane, but something that really served the community especially in the difficult times ahead would be spot on. Anyway I think any empty shops are more likely to be another tesco express......they are popping up everywhere..... I do not welcome them either.

Hi James Thanks for your response. After chopping down one of the plum trees on our street and my partner preventing them from chopping another. I came back yesterday to see them climbing up the second plum tree. They informed me that they were simply pruning the tree, not chopping it down. They had gone back to their offices, to discover that the tree should not have been earmarked for chopping down in the first place. Had my partner not intervened, we would have lost a perfectly healthy tree! How often does this happen I wonder? The words communication and lack spring to mind. Any way you can investigate this?
