Went to see the Tony-Winning Stereophonic last night, the play that is apparently not about the recording of Rumours but is set in a recording studio in Sausalito in the late 70's and features a band with three Brits (two men, one woman) and two Americans (one man, one woman). It was good but I wasn't blown away, wasn't helped by the number of people chomping on noisy snacks throughout the performance !

Family holiday - south of France - by train?
ed_pete replied to stellakis's topic in The Family Room Discussion
While I can't recommend any destination, for European train travel advice take a look at the man in seat 61 website - it's a mine of useful information. -

Just been to see Giant at the Harold Pinter theatre. Fabulous. I can see why John Lithgow won an Olivier.

Six new town houses on Melbourne Grove
ed_pete replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They are being squeezed into the land on the site of the old Melbourne Grove surgery that closed when Tessa Jewell opened. Kind of behind where Il Mirto was. -
Are these the houses being built where the old doctors surgery used to be ? In which case is that the view from Railway Rise 😆

Library of things at Dulwich leisure centre
ed_pete replied to Dulwich Born And Bred's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just wanted to remind everyone of this facility. It is in the Leisure Centre foyer and so accessible during the normal opening hours. I've just used the SDS drill (which comes with drill and chisel bits and eye & ear protection) for under a tenner for a day. Equipment was in very good nick and process was more easier and more convenient that traditional hire shop. https://libraryofthings.co.uk/ -
I'm guessing it must have been early. I passed about 7:30 and there was no signs of police or ambulance only the recovery truck. My guess is that the bin lorry was approaching from the JAGS direction, heading down the hill, turned right, overcooked it and tipped. Hopefully no one was seriously injured though I imagine those in the lorry must been hurt.

I wonder how this happened? Recovery truck arrived.

Interesting the projected demand. One imagines that you don't undertake this kind of investment without the business case to back it up. There's one going up near a friends office in the City that is for 782 students. OK, these are much closer to HE establishments but there still has to be the demand. https://dominusrealestate.co.uk/projects/65crutchedfriars/

Pavement widening outside M&S nr East Dulwich station...
ed_pete replied to EDmummy101's topic in Roads & Transport
Just wait until the works start on builders merchants redevelopment - which I'm guessing will take 3+ years - carnage on railway rise with the constant to-ing and fro-ing of lorries. Woe betide M&S if they block it with their deliveries... -
There is already a thread about these roadworks:

Reliable taxi firms for early a.m to East Croydon or Gatwick??
ed_pete replied to O.A.Partygirl's topic in Roads & Transport
I've used Rye Cars a couple of times in recent years, once to Gatwick and once to Heathrow. Both turned up on time and got us there smoothly. Will use again. -
Here's a post from a couple of years ago with a some photos of the houses. Quite grand I imagine, originally.

Crossroads roadworks - EDG/Dulwich V/RP Hill etc
ed_pete replied to ed_pete's topic in Roads & Transport
These works are on-going and causing delays and tailbacks as one might expect. Anyone know what Conways working hours are ? I've been past close to 3pm on several occasions over past few weeks and they've packed up and gone. Similar situation with the resurfacing on Greendale. Whatever happened to a full days work ? -
My map of 1916 shows that the road narrowed where it currently has lanes left (Bessemer School) and right (Hamlet FC) so I guess it's been like that for a while.

"a week or two", I think the signs say mid-May.

Regarding CPZ costs, the current charge is £247.50 for the first car if ULEZ compliant otherwise £320.10. Second or more cars are charged at £320.10 regardless. When we first had to pay in August 2020 it was £125, so it's doubled since then. Most significant increase was from £133 (in 2022) to £225 (in 2023).

Anyone know what the purpose of the roadworks are at the East Dulwich Grove/Village Way/Red Post Hill/Dulwich Village ? The temporary lights are causing major tailbacks and it looks from the signs that they're going on until late April.

Yes but is it (a) still going and (b) run by the same family ? 🫢
