Reliable taxi firms for early a.m to East Croydon or Gatwick??
ed_pete replied to O.A.Partygirl's topic in Roads & Transport
I've used Rye Cars a couple of times in recent years, once to Gatwick and once to Heathrow. Both turned up on time and got us there smoothly. Will use again. -
Here's a post from a couple of years ago with a some photos of the houses. Quite grand I imagine, originally.

Crossroads roadworks - EDG/Dulwich V/RP Hill etc
ed_pete replied to ed_pete's topic in Roads & Transport
These works are on-going and causing delays and tailbacks as one might expect. Anyone know what Conways working hours are ? I've been past close to 3pm on several occasions over past few weeks and they've packed up and gone. Similar situation with the resurfacing on Greendale. Whatever happened to a full days work ? -
My map of 1916 shows that the road narrowed where it currently has lanes left (Bessemer School) and right (Hamlet FC) so I guess it's been like that for a while.

Maybe contact the Friends of Dulwich Park ? https://dulwichparkfriends.org.uk/ They have the below contact details for the Park General Parks Enquiries: [email protected] Dulwich Parks Office : 020 8693 8635

"a week or two", I think the signs say mid-May.

Regarding CPZ costs, the current charge is £247.50 for the first car if ULEZ compliant otherwise £320.10. Second or more cars are charged at £320.10 regardless. When we first had to pay in August 2020 it was £125, so it's doubled since then. Most significant increase was from £133 (in 2022) to £225 (in 2023).

Anyone know what the purpose of the roadworks are at the East Dulwich Grove/Village Way/Red Post Hill/Dulwich Village ? The temporary lights are causing major tailbacks and it looks from the signs that they're going on until late April.

Yes but is it (a) still going and (b) run by the same family ? 🫢
-
Ah Bells, yup forgot about them. Wonder if it's still in the same hands since 1919.

I was wondering what the oldest business is on Lordship Lane that is still operating under the same ownership. My guess is AJ Farmer, established in 1964. Anything older ? I'm excluding the pubs which will have been around a lot longer but no doubt gone through several different owners.

Deep Purple ? Led Zeppelin ? Both around the late sixties I'm guessing.

Sue - I promise you that was no fake photo, not sure that I'm even capable to that. I took the picture about 12:15 today.

Street trees: when is it time to call time ?
ed_pete replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think most people want trees. Just trees that are suited to their surroundings. -

Once someone has constantly loped of all the branches. 🙂 -

I get that they're being pollarded. This estate was built in the 60's and so I'm guessing that they're around 60 years old. Nothing wrong with that but even when they re-grow they're hardly going to be the most attractive. Y'know just musing on improving the look of our public spaces. -
Just walked back from DV to Lordship Lane and wandered through the estate on EDG. There's a tree surgeon pruning the trees there (council funded for sure) and it just seems a bit bizarre as the stumps that are left are far from attractive. I would that thought that replacement was what was really needed here. Appreciate that funds are tight but really is there not a better option ?

Nice one on Choumert Road.

Anyone know why they've put breaks in the paving in ? Is it to take the run-off from the roads ?

Hey - I can see that you're selling a lot of items - the preferred rule here is to put them all on one post rather than individual ones. From Forum Rules section: "If you have a big list of similar items to sell at once (e.g. a garage sale) then please put them all in one thread. Do not create more than 3 topics per day per account."

Driver smashes traffic light in Dulwich Village
ed_pete replied to Dogkennelhillbilly's topic in Roads & Transport
I'm sure that they be more subtle - I'm imagining the head of the Met meeting with the leader of the council in a dark room, probably a private members club, brandies in hand a councillor with an agenda walks in with some blackmail material...meanwhile it turns out the driver was a paediatrician who'd been working all night to save a set of twins from near certain death having been called into the hospital from an anniversary dinner with her husband and skidded to avoid a family of foxes crossing the road on her way home...(Ad Break). -

Hey I'm no Leeming apologist. I'm just trying to understand Rockets ", in his position as an elected official, could he be prejudicing a future case " comment. I get that he's not Leeming's biggest cheerleader but this all feels a bit Daily Fail to me. Oh come on. This is beginning to look like an ITV drama. A crap one.
