  1. I'm wondering how long the supermarkets can run these schemes that discount the price of items for those with a loyalty card. As so often is the case these days it seems to exclude those in society that don't have access / can't use technology. And the price difference can be large, for example I bought some sugar in Sainsburys yesterday (cake baking) and the normal non-Nectar price was £2.05, the Nectar price was £1.15 - that's a huge difference. The Nectar price of some tomatoes was 75% of the non-Nectar price. It seems unfair to exclude these lower prices from those that don't have a supermarket loyalty card.
  2. From Dulwich Society: Charter East Dulwich School: contractors working on incorporating the old hospital buildings into the school demolished walls that turned out to be structural. Construction methods used on the ‘chateau’ building made it difficult to determine which walls were structural. Temporary props have been installed and are being monitored.
  3. Ate there on Saturday evening. Really lovely meal and definitely a million miles from your typical Indian restaurant. FOH staff talked us through the menu which was really helpful. Even the chef came out and had quick chat late-on. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood.

  5. OK renewal time again. This time it's increased by 35%. About a 30% increase last year. Overall increase of 75% comparing 2021 premium to 2023 premium. No claims made in over 20 years. Anyone else getting massive increases in buildings insurance ?
  6. Southwark's Council Leader has written to Lime threatening to remove and charge for badly parked bikes.
  7. Really like to recommend the chaps from https://down-the-drain.co.uk/ for got us out of a tight spot by unblocking and clearing our sewer. Efficient, polite, reasonable, clear on price. Would definitely use again. Based in Forest Hill. https://www.instagram.com/down_the_drain_sewer_services_/
  8. Squatters in East Dulwich ! Whatever next !
  9. Well looks like it's working well then.😉
  10. I found these pictures on https://www.layersoflondon.org/ Fascinating view of the houses between Townley/Greendale/EDG and the corner at the bottom of the hill. Big houses by the look of it, be worth a bob if they were still there. I believe they were compulsorily purchased by the council in the early 1960's so that they could build the Dutch Estate on the land.
  11. I've had similar experiences. Saturday morning. Lots of people at both the SmartShop and Self Scan checkouts. Half the terminals not working. One member of staff on duty. Probably won't make any difference but I heard from the delivery driver that they are closing for a couple of weeks in August for a refurb.
  12. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/garden-waste-collection-subscriptions?chapter=2 £20 for 20 - free pick up which you are supposed to arrange but in my experience they will just collect if left out on bin collection day Get in quick as 50% rise applies to bags as well , going up to £30 for 20 from 1st April.
  13. I think they are open again. I was able to pick up a jacket they repaired for me last week.
  14. I'm in the same situation. I took a jacket in for repair and then they shut shortly after. Have you tried asking the coffee shop or newsagents if they know anything ?
  15. The service is uneven. When our bins were collected this week, one of the bin men rang the bell and was at pains to tell us that that should only be collecting trees for free from houses that have a large brown garden/food waste bin (which is chargeable at about £40pa ). We don't have one but he took it anyway perhaps because it wasn't that large.
  16. There's a page to request a collection on their website https://www.southwark.gov.uk/wasteservices/christmastreecollect/ But maybe just try leaving it with the food waste bin and see what happens.
  17. ed_pete thanks for this post. I am "in process" of getting rid of Virgin Media broadband. Could you clarify which 5G service you switched to? And what sort of hardware you use I use the standard 5G WiFi Router from 3. It's a re-branded ZTE model. I've set it up in bridge mode connected to my separate router via a cat 5 cable that I wanted to keep as all my devices were set up to connect to it and I didn't want to change this.
  18. The increasing use of the word Riff, outside of a musical context.
  19. That's my understanding. Though it'll be interesting to see how the developers approach this now that, as regularly reported, the cost of building materials has significantly increased over the past year or two.
  20. Well in that case it might be easier to create a screenshot on your iPhone and email the PDF to yourself. https://support.apple.com/en-ie/guide/iphone/iphc872c0115/ios#:~:text=On%20an%20iPhone%20with%20Face,Home%20button%20and%20side%20button.
  21. Um. So without a printer how had you expected to print them ?
  22. If you have access to a PC/Mac then you can access your WhatsApp messages via WhatApps Web. https://web.whatsapp.com/ Then you could just print the screen or copy and paste to Word (or similiar) and print from there.
  23. Well I for one hope it holds up for the next couple of years because I recently signed up for the 5G service to replace my Virgin Media broadband. So far, so good. Excellent signal strength and around 250GB download speed for £20 a month (£10 for the first 6).
  24. Any trains today before 8:38 anyone know?
