I don't think this all falls to the current administration. Decreasing the amount of traffic, with an aim to meet emissions targets, increase cycling and improve safety for all road users are part of the Mayors Transport Strategy (Google it). I have a mail in my inbox from TFL asking me for my views on cycle safety - that initiative has nothing to do with Southwark.

It's difficult to say whether your gas and electric bill are unreasonable as there are many factors: provider cost, insulation, temperature you find comfortable, how long your heating is on for etc etc and as Loz says Tumble Driers are notoriously pricey to run. You could check one of the price comparison sites (e.g. Uswitch) to see if there are cheaper deals out there). With only one thermostat it sounds like your home's heating is all being treated as a single "zone" i.e. when the thermostat turns the boiler on, the water is pumped round all the radiators in the house. Although you can control the temperature in individual rooms by going round and altering the TRV's that isn't necessarily the most user friendly approach. You need to do a bit of research on "zoned" heating systems and maybe get a heating engineer round to talk through the options. There are systems out there that provide individual timers and thermostats on each radiator (essentially zoning each room) but this is probably an overkill and is expensive. HTH

Anyone know who the contractor is and whether they are registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme. You can check here and make a complaint. http://www.ccscheme.org.uk/index.php/affected-by-works -

Charter School East - consultations
ed_pete replied to @Woodwarde's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
@rorsome CPZ's are a very contentious subject however I'll attempt to objectively summarise what happened. Way back in 2011 (I think) there was a consultation on introducing a CPZ in some of the streets either side of Grove Vale on the premise that a lot of commuters were using these streets for parking for East Dulwich station. There were a lot of opposing view on this forum and James Barber who came in for a lot a criticism as he supported the proposals. There was also a great deal of concern that the CPZ would create overspill into the adjoining streets the inevitable conclusion of which would be the widening of the CPZ area. Ultimately the Council backed down and that was the end of it. -

37 to Brixton then tube or 37 to Herne Hill and train to St Pancras. Have you not heard of the Tfl journey planner ? -
Or depending on how close to Peckham Rye / Denmark Hill you are you could London Overground to Clapham Junction and then change for train to Kingston.

Actually FM I think it first mentioned on this thread by BrandNewGuy in a post further up. But you're more interested in having a jab at JB than the facts I guess. -

How is someone from > outside the borough supposed to know about the > 20mph borough-wide limit if it isn't properly > signed? TfL says "Almost 25% of all London roads are now 20mph and London boroughs such as Islington, Camden and the City of London are leading the way with borough-wide 20mph limits on their roads. Hackney is also seeking to introduce 20mph next year." Lewisham are going 20mph http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/transport/road-safety/Pages/20mph-borough-speed-limit.aspx Lambeth are going 20mph http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/parking-transport-and-streets/streets-and-roads/lambeth-goes-20mph-guide Wandsworth have started... http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/news/article/12910/councillors_approve_11_new_20mph_zones Give another 5 years and all the central London boroughs will be 20mph

I think that this'll just take time to get used to. You've been asked to reduce your speed by a third and it's difficult. A bit like plastic bags and smoking in pubs eventually it'll be forgotten and everyone will accept it as the norm. And hopefully there'll be less accidents as a result.

Hi - I've had a couple of PM's today but no associated email notification. I've check all my mailboxes etc but nothing there.

It's not just Southwark - Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Islington, Camden.... It's a Mayoral/TfL led initiative. https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/media/press-releases/2015/march/tfl-outlines-new-sites-for-potential-20mph-speed-limits

Seems to have worked in Wales: Is the charge working? The single use carrier bag charge was introduced to reduce the number of single use bags used. In July 2012, the Welsh Government released a brief summary covering 13 retailers which showed reductions of 35 ? 96% since the launch of the carrier bag charge. This information, available below, is broken down by retail sector. Food retail - between 96% and 70% reductions; Fashion - between 75% and 68% reductions; Home improvement - 95% reduction; Food service - up to 45% reduction; Telecommunications - 85% reduction. http://www.carrierbagchargewales.gov.uk/progress/chargeworking/?lang=en

You really don't like JB do you ? And as for slating what I presume is the Abbotswood Road estate, I not sure the residents would be so enamored with your description: "We'd probably have ended up with a horrible housing development of poor architectural poor quality, like the one next to Dulwich Hamlet FC." -

James - you said "NHS property explained they would need an extra 23 years before they vacate the bulk of the site to plan and build new health facilities." Are you seriously saying that the hospital site won't be vacated until 2038 ? No - 2019-20 at the latest which I agree is still too long given how long it has been so far. As for keeping the central chateau - that is it not a given. -

Unlikely on the hospital site as I don't think there is sufficient space. It would be great if they could do a deal with St Saviours and St Olaves girls school given the proximity of that field on Greendale. I even think there is a tunnel under the railway line at the back of the site that could make access to the playing fields even easier. -
I can't get the search function to work. I type (e.g.) "curry" and nothing comes back - is it just me ?

Just to clarify, I think James meant 2-3 years not 23 years. -

I'm not so sure. I think some of the buildings are temporary but some will form part of the core school buildings. For example I believe that they plan to site the school sports hall/gym at the western end of the site in place of the existing buildings that were at one time (I think) hospital staff accommodation. -
Pushing this out to the wider community as I'm not sure how many would have seen the original post in the Family Room. I'd encourage anyone who has an interest in the design and architecture of local buildings to go along, regardless of whether or not you have children. The new school will be a highly visible piece of public architecture that will hopefully be in place for many, many years so it's really important you take the opportunity to express your views. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1578200
