  2. a cloth bag has much less of an impact on landfill or marine life than 10,000 poly bags
  3. I'm up for Articulate next week - can't play scrabble.

  5. one way ticket outta there
  6. yes I agree, cars are much more the threat to safety.
  7. Not sure I agree with that. I won't let my 10 year old walk to the park alone at 6pm on an autumn evening, however I will let him kick a ball around with his mates for a while before dinner. He goes to the park with his mates at other more suitable times tho'.
  8. downsouth said "I hope my lack of emoticons haven't made this post unintelligible."
  9. Depends what you're kicking
  10. What did you say?
  11. Now what?
  12. Beauberry House is on the Village side and I'm not sure you can have Dulwich park either. If you are straying over that way, why no mention of the Dulwich Picture Gallery (oooh, should I use an emoticon here so as not to be taken too seriously?). EDIT: correction of typographical errors

there you see, if I had got an email like that from a good, male friend I'm fairly sure I would not have taken it to mean that the friend was harbouring a deep, unrequited love for me without an emoticon to tell me that it was a joke. I was going to put in my original post that this was not meant to be a one upmanship type of discussion 'oh people who use them are inferior to those who don't etc etc' so it wouldn't boil down to s snob, class war discussion. happy 20th birthday the emoticon! here's the Guardian article
  15. I like Articulate, I'll join you sometime for a game of that.

    emoticons

Interesting piece on radio quattro just now about emoticons. It is 25 years ago today that the original emoticon was formulated, by a chap in a university somewhere in the states. He developed it for use on the university intranet notice board, where people had discussions that got quite heated and people took things the wrong way etc, (obvious parallels). Then a chap from (I think) the Gaurdian came on to say how much he didn't like them as the written word had been doing fine and if you can't get the jist of your writings across then you are not writing well enough etc etc. I don't use them myself but am fairly ambivalent about their usage. However I am not keen on the usage of them to 'make light' of an offensive comment. Any one care to discuss or will this slip off the bottom of the page in a flash.(?) >:D
  17. kids play out round my way, but that might be your way too as you don't say where you are sillywoman.
  18. I'm getting this quite a bit and have to keep clicking 'try again' to get the page to refresh. Seems to have been happening since the server was updated a few weeks ago. Any one else getting this? Maybe it's a problem at my end, but just thought I'd mention it.
  19. I liked that sausage shop that used to be on Blackfriars Rd - Simply Sausages. They did nice veggie ones. I know it's not a real suausage but still. It is a shame Kennedy's are closing those shops. I lived just off Wally Rd for 20 years and Kennedy's is one of the few shops that was there when I moved in. The tiling is great although not as good as the tiling in Le Chardon which used to be a butchers (I think). The only time I went in though was to get veggie haggis for Burn's night!
  20. But Ted Max, are you a choice cut or throbbing gristle?
  21. agreed. Admin has already said that local businesses can come on and give themselves a plug once, there's no need to do it in an underhand way.
  22. I've said it before and I'll say it again... Blimey! I'm not sure that the assertion that all sausages are the same is entirely correct. Granted they all contain meat but I would say some contain a fair amount of gristle and fat etc and some contain choice bits, usually evidenced in the price paid.
  23. Good enough for Bowie!
  24. If I could openly call him a jerk
  25. Keef, it's not that funny. As an attempt at pedantry it's pretty poor and as a joke it's making light of something that has really pissed me off. Louisa - No I won't get over it. You've gone a step too far with your personal insults.
