  1. This might sound a bit drastic but our daughter is also very resistant to her travel cot so rather than spending our last holiday in Devon taking hours every evening to try and get her down for the night, we used one of those companies that deliver and assemble a cot or cot bed to your cottage for the duration of your hols and then pick it up on the last day. I think it was about ?30 for 5 days and it was money well spent as we were able to relax in the evenings while our daughter went to sleep with no fuss in a cot bed which was familiar, rather than the 2 hour marathon that often happens if we try to get her down in a travel cot. Just had a quick google and think at least one these companies might cover Lake District http://www.rentingforrascals.co.uk/sections/sleeping.asp http://www.rentabuggy.co.uk/faqs.html
  2. just done, hope they reach their target
  3. Think the toyshop in the stationers in the village sells them too
  4. My daughter's posterior tongue tie wasn't diagnosed until she was 6 months, we chose not to get her treated as I was about to stop breast-feeding anyway, plus I think it would be a very unpleasant procedure for a child that age (we were advised this as well as it being a gut feeling and it makes sense). In fact at Kings 6 months is the cut off point for offering the procedure partly for this reason. It won't make any difference in the long run, but had we had the diagnosis and procedure when she was a few days / weeks old, I wouldn''t have had such a nightmare breast feeding her, plus poor supply etc, so I think definitely worth it if found early. At 3 months if feeding is going ok I'm not sure I'd feel the need to have it done. You might also want to factor in how your child is sleeping, you need to wake them every couple of hours at night to saw on the wound with your finger to stop it healing over, which isn't an issue if a baby is a few days old as they're waking all night anyway, but if your child is sleeping well, it may be pretty unappealing to wake them to do this several times a night for a fortnight.
  5. thanks all, that's useful to know
  6. cross post with Londonmix there..
  7. So if one of you is working and is paid just over ?50,000 then you don't get child benefit? But if, say, you earn ?48k each, and have a joint income of ?96K you would still get it?
  8. Can someone please remind me about the threshold for child benefit? I only remember it's been made unfair so that a couple with a much higher joint income still get it but if there's one earner above a certain threshold they don't even tho the household income could be much less than the couple both earning, but I don't remember the figures! What's the deal with it again? thanks!
  9. Katie Fisher who treats tongue tie at Kings at Mr.Patel's clinic also treats it privately Number is (or at least used to be) 07949176776 and with a consultation and the procedure, it would cost you ?120, think about ?70 if you've already had diagnosis. previous thread of interest about tongue tie http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,856764,856779#msg-856779
  10. I sympathise, we live in a first floor flat and the downstairs neighbour has recently asked me 'is there anything you can do to stop your little girl running around because we can hear her footsteps.' (she is under 2).
  11. I'm sure FLIP was still going into the 90s, I used to buy shirts and denim skirts, plus dyed army surplus tops there, loved it! My mum used to take me and buy stuff for herself too, you could spend hours in there.
  12. No it's the one for ?39.95 to the left of the one you mention on the gallery, with a pic of a baby in a hooded towel sitting on it. The shorn ones are best bet as the long ones fibres get a bit fluffy.
  13. it's the bowron baby care shorn fleece. x
  14. I think it's definitely worth it, it was one of our best buys with our daughter, we used it from birth to line the moses, cot etc. have a look at this one which is what we have, ?39 and lovely quality http://www.baababy.co.uk/fleeces-and-rugs/bowron-babycare-shorn-fleece.html
  15. I find you often get dirty looks from people if you're using the 'ignoring it' approach, as if they assume that you just can't be bothered to engage with your poor crying child, rather than you're taking a tactical approach to a toddler having a tantrum because they saw chocolate in the shop you were just in, or whatever it might be! I think some people assume that you could get your child to be quiet if you just tried, and you are thoughtlessly allowing them to ruin the peace, but of course you know what is likely to extend or reduce the tantrum time and ignoring it is often the best way forward to let it burn out! Jollybaby, that is INCREDIBLE!! SusyP, you've just reminded me of the newborn days when strangers come up to you unsolicited and state 'she's hungry' when your baby cries, aaaaagh! I had forgotten!
  16. The range of fabric wall stickers from Quick Brown Fox Of Dulwich are really nice, they have pirate ones and dinosaur ones. They are moveable / reusable too, we have the woodland ones. The bedding is lovely too. Otherwise I think vaguely nautical, red and blue stripes etc is a good theme, cos it would last ages as others have said, have fun choosing! http://quickbrownfoxofdulwich.co.uk/love-mae-reusable-fabric-wall-stickers
  17. I found the TENS really helped in labour, there did come a point when it was no longer cutting the mustard so I took it off, but it did help a lot for first few hours. I think definitely worth it.
  18. Like the poster above I have had pregnancy acupuncture from Dan Bevan at Dulwich Therapy rooms (assume we're talking about same person as think he's the only male acupuncturist there) and also reflexology to encourage things along when I was due, with Francine the reflexologist there, who is also lovely. In the end the thing that kick started my labour was a sweep but the acupuncture and reflexology in those last few days were certainly more enjoyable and made me feel like I was doing something other than twiddling my thumbs..!
  19. Also if anyone has a suggestion of a cottage you know does weekend rentals / short breaks rather than minimum stays of week, thanks!
  20. Just wanted to pick the brains of mums and childminders about this as not sure how it works? If a child minder picks your toddler up from pre school - (I guess they would either be picking up at 12:15ish or 3:15ish depending on wether the child had done a single or double session?) - is there normally an hourly rate you pay from the pick up time (I only know that in terms of a day rate childminders normally charge about ?50 for a full day so not sure how it works when it isn't a full day) if the pre school only operates term time, what happens in the holidays if you're at home and don't need the pick ups? Presumably the childminder cannot just lose the hours and money so do you still pay over the holidays? Or do you just pay a retainer? Or do most people just continue to drop their toddler with the childminder on those afternoons anyway even if they haven't beem to school to keep continuity or how does it work? Grateful for any advice as just trying to weigh up the differing costs of private nursery a couple of days a week as opposed to pre-school and childminder option..thanks for any advice!
  21. Thanks Mathilda, that's kind, I will email him for more info Anyone else recommend anyone?
  22. Does anyone have a cottage they would like to rent out over Easter Weekend, (i.e going on easter friday 29th March and coming back monday 1st April) we would be 4 adults and 2 two year olds. Preferably it would be at least 3 bedrooms, and preferably within a couple of hours drive of East Dulwich. Let me know if you have a suitable cottage available, thanks!
  23. I was also prescribed domperidone to boost supply and it works quickly, (i.e practically overnight)
