So if one of you is working and is paid just over ?50,000 then you don't get child benefit? But if, say, you earn ?48k each, and have a joint income of ?96K you would still get it?

Can someone please remind me about the threshold for child benefit? I only remember it's been made unfair so that a couple with a much higher joint income still get it but if there's one earner above a certain threshold they don't even tho the household income could be much less than the couple both earning, but I don't remember the figures! What's the deal with it again? thanks!

I find you often get dirty looks from people if you're using the 'ignoring it' approach, as if they assume that you just can't be bothered to engage with your poor crying child, rather than you're taking a tactical approach to a toddler having a tantrum because they saw chocolate in the shop you were just in, or whatever it might be! I think some people assume that you could get your child to be quiet if you just tried, and you are thoughtlessly allowing them to ruin the peace, but of course you know what is likely to extend or reduce the tantrum time and ignoring it is often the best way forward to let it burn out! Jollybaby, that is INCREDIBLE!! SusyP, you've just reminded me of the newborn days when strangers come up to you unsolicited and state 'she's hungry' when your baby cries, aaaaagh! I had forgotten!

The bedding is lovely too. I found the TENS really helped in labour, there did come a point when it was no longer cutting the mustard so I took it off, but it did help a lot for first few hours. I think definitely worth it.

Like the poster above I have had pregnancy acupuncture from Dan Bevan at Dulwich Therapy rooms (assume we're talking about same person as think he's the only male acupuncturist there) and also reflexology to encourage things along when I was due, with Francine the reflexologist there, who is also lovely. In the end the thing that kick started my labour was a sweep but the acupuncture and reflexology in those last few days were certainly more enjoyable and made me feel like I was doing something other than twiddling my thumbs..!

Just wanted to pick the brains of mums and childminders about this as not sure how it works? If a child minder picks your toddler up from pre school - (I guess they would either be picking up at 12:15ish or 3:15ish depending on wether the child had done a single or double session?) - is there normally an hourly rate you pay from the pick up time (I only know that in terms of a day rate childminders normally charge about ?50 for a full day so not sure how it works when it isn't a full day) if the pre school only operates term time, what happens in the holidays if you're at home and don't need the pick ups? Presumably the childminder cannot just lose the hours and money so do you still pay over the holidays? Or do you just pay a retainer? Or do most people just continue to drop their toddler with the childminder on those afternoons anyway even if they haven't beem to school to keep continuity or how does it work? Grateful for any advice as just trying to weigh up the differing costs of private nursery a couple of days a week as opposed to pre-school and childminder option..thanks for any advice!

I forgot to say, when I was in John Lewis to buy the country style wooden kitchen they have just started selling, one of the staff on the shop floor told me that they still had some of the previous wooden kitchen in the back, reduced to ?60ish, which if you asked them for you could still buy. They might still have some if you phone up and ask?
