Yes, although my nausea never fully went away. Has definitely increased over the last couple of weeks, especially in the evening and I vomited a couple of evenings last week. I think it's mostly due to acid and also trying to eat a normal sized dinner when there simply isn't room. Congratulations to Jules. Glad everyone is home and well. Please pass on any twin tips! New kitchen ideas and thoughts...
BellendenBear replied to bluesuperted's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had lots of work done on our house last year and had quite a tight budget by the time we chose the kitchen. The things I like best are: pan drawers - so much better than cupboards, we have 9 but wish we had got more. cork flooring - cheap, warm, sustainable. ikea carcasses with made to measure doors bought on-line (cheaper than ikea doors) which we painted and bought handles for. Means we could chose a bright colour for the doors and can change the colour if we want. -

Southwark Primary School Admissions for Sept 2013
BellendenBear replied to James Barber's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I agree with Fuschia. We are 'Peckham plebs' and the open evening that we went to for the Harris Free school was one of the most uninspiring and depressing evenings I've had in a long time. I suspect that many of the supporters on James' previous threads for a Harris school in ED are actually saying that they support a Harris Free school so that other people's kids go there to free up more places at the popular community schools rather than that they actually want their own kids to be part of this experiment which 'should be great once they've established themselves'. That's just not good enough. I also didn't like the fact that in the Harris propaganda for their new free school they implied that because the school was starting from scratch there would be a higher ratio of staff to pupils. When I questioned them about this they acknowledged that this wasn't really the case. They would employ new teachers as the school grew and the school wouldn't get its own head teacher until it reached critical mass. So in face the pupils would have the same number of teachers as any other school but no head so if anything less and not more. This is very dishonest. James, you continue to manipulate figures for political point scoring rather than to provide any helpful information. The number that you give for the children in the ED area who didn't receive any of their choices presumably includes parts of Peckham, Camberwell and Nunhead, when in another post you suggest that Peckham is a long way from ED. And then when you talk about the plans for new schools and school expansions you only mention the ones in ED itself and not the wider area. I find this very misleading. -
Did you realise that the villa only takes kids from 2? If you are close to the Villa then you should also check out Camberwell Grove EYC at the top of Camberwell Grove. The council have just changed the fee structure so prices are going up a bit, but they are keeping the 20% sibling discount which is a big help. Not sure how many other nurseries offer this. You might find that a nanny is cheaper though.

Catch-up MMR campaign just launched
BellendenBear replied to etta166's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Measles is notifiable therefore all suspected cases of measles should be reported to the HPA who will arrange for testing to confirm the diagnosis. The fact that some of the recent cases of measles have affected people who have had 2 doses of MMR only reinforces the need for widespread vaccination within a population in order to provide herd immunity. -

It's very tedious to > have a small furious cross thing screaming about > everything... My sympathy SB. I have one very furious cross little thing at the moment. Where does the anger come from?! Not 2 until next week but certainly building up to it and developing her ability to throw herself on the floor.

Twins - Do I still have a choice of midwife?
BellendenBear replied to dildals's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Which GP surgery are you registered with? I think most practices are linked to one of the Kings community teams so you should be able to have your midwife care through them. Like KatDew I was booked with Brierly until I found out I was having twins. They saw me one more time after the 12 week scan and told me that I need to register with a different team as I can not have a home birth. I think that this is fair enough as they are a wonderful resource and it is only fair that someone else on their waiting list can have the chance to have a home birth as I did last time. I have booked to see the midwife at my GP surgery (East team) in a few weeks. I have left this a while as in the meantime I have been seen by Leonie Penna's team and also have loads of scans. So many appointments! -
Snap nymom! We have a four year old and an almost 2 year old and made the decision to go for a 3rd last autumn. Twins (non-identical)! I was in shock for quite a while about this, probably still am actually. Not due until July, sounds like you are due before then so hopefully you can reassure me that 4 babies in 4 years isn't going to totally ruin me. So just a word of warning for anyone considering taking the plunge and going for 3....

I think we paid a similar amount. I got them to agree that we wouldn't have to pay fees again if the nanny were to leave within the first 6 months. I had the same experience as Snowboarder, and it's so much better to use an agency who quote a gross salary. For 2 kids our nanny doesn't work out any more expensive than a childminder and similar or less than sending them to nursery.

Cinderella - anyone else concerned
BellendenBear replied to WorkingMummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I have 2 girls and was determined to avoid too much of the pink and princess influences. When pregnant with the first I initially set a no pink rule. This quickly changed to 10% then 30% when I realised that I was fighting a losing battle. 4 years later we sometimes have enough pink clothes to do a pink wash. It's hideous, I feel like I'm self-harming when I hang the clothes out. What strikes me is that we have regressed over the years. As a child of late 70s / 80s I'm sure it wasn't like this then, at least not in our house. When my daughters were born we were inundated with candyfloss pink 'girly' cards and gifts. My Mum still has the cards she received after my birth in 1976. There's only one pink one and inside there is an apology for sending something so tasteless. On balance, I now take a slightly more pragmatic approach along the lines of Pickle's. My head is still firmly in the 'Pink Stinks' camp, but my heart doesn't want my girls to feel left out. So I allow much more of the pink princess fairy stuff, I just don't encourage it. -
My daughter potty trained at a similar age and like yours had no problems with wees. It took at least another month or maybe 2 for her to master poos. I don't think this is unusual. We just stuck with it and had lots of dirty pants to wash / throw away. One day she just got it and was fine ever since.

Anyone due around June? Multiples?
BellendenBear replied to aqua-anya's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Congratulations Anna. Check out the Summer Babies 2013 thread on here. We met up last month and there is another night out planned for next week I think. Lots of Mums due around that time, most of them first timers. I am having twins in July. I think there are already 4 of us expecting twins so you could make it 5. -
Overheard in the PLayground . . .
BellendenBear replied to sillywoman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Surely it's still worth investing in your daughters' education so that they go to the best schools and universities and increase their chances of meeting the most successful potential husbands? That's supposed to be a joke. -
Second time mums - Summer Babies FH or ED
BellendenBear replied to ncg's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi ncg, I sent you a PM a couple of days ago. I am also having twins due in July. I will also have a 4 year old and 2 and a bot year old (Hi Al&Em, I remember you from Spring Babies 2011!). I am keen to meet some other 2nd / 3rd timers. -
Ballet for 4 year old boy
BellendenBear replied to nubby'smums's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Theatre Peckham have ballet classes and musical theatre classes for 3 and above on Saturday mornings. My daughter does the musical theatre but there seem to be boys in the ballet classes too. They all wear red and black. No pink in sight. -
Morrisons in Peckham have lots of pirate stuff in their party section. Can't remember whether I saw candles but might be worth a look.

More twins here! I am still in shock about this so it has taken me a couple of weeks to post. Would have been due end of July but this has been adjusted to around the 7th. I have 2 girls already so am particularly keen to meet the other twin mums and those who face the juggling act of newborn plus toddler. Congratulations everyone. I hope to make it on the 19th.

The Baby Whisperer - Would you Recommend?
BellendenBear replied to Salsie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I used Baby Whisperer with second baby and really recommend it. I used a 'Gina lite' approach with number 1, very much like Pickle describes. Both worked in that both daughters have always been good sleepers, but I found BW much less stressful and more intuitive and easier to use with a toddler to look after as well. The basic ideas of establishing a bedtime routine at the same time each day and ensuring good daytime naps were really 'easy' using the routine suggested, but you adapt it to suit your own baby. Feeding the baby when they wake up rather than to get them off to sleep makes everything much easier. I breast fed both babies and don't see why this approach couldn't be compatible with breast or bottle feeding. -
Holidays in the UK with a 4 month old and 2 year old
BellendenBear replied to Didine's topic in The Family Room Discussion
How about renting a cottage on the north Norfolk coast? Burnham, Wells, Blakeney or Cley, somewhere along there. There's a good bus service that runs along the coast between then little towns and villages, some great beaches, lovely flat walks along the marshes and loads of good pubs. -
Private v State Nursery for 3 year old - pros and cons
BellendenBear replied to srisky's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The bottom line seems to be that private nursery is a childcare option, but school nursery isn't really . I think that what they do will be similar as they all follow the early years curriculum. I assume that by state you mean a nursery that is attached to a school? My daughters attend a 'state' nursery run by Southwark council but it takes babies from 6 months - school age who attend full or part time as well as 3+ children only attending for the 15 term time hours. My daughter has always attended 3 days per week. We therefore get 5 free hours per day during term time and pay for the full 3 days the rest of the time. -
