  1. Congrats DC! Welcome back to hell mate.
  2. I realise people may get hung up on frivolous points like when it starts but I have a few serious queries I would like to put to the Chairman regarding the rules. Mr Chairman if I may ask; If a contestant puts roller-skates on before the race but does so completely by accident, will they be disqualified? Even though they would be wearing performance enhancing shoes they would not be doing so with intent. And what if during a tactical overtaking manoeuvre a contestant accidentally runs into the open doors of a No.12 bus and will roller-skates have any bearing on this?
  3. James Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What a bizarre and antiquated idea - that men > should need a different sort of hairdresser or > fear compromising their delicate masculinity. What > next - the return of separate withdrawing rooms > for men and women? I expressed a similar sentiment when using the ladies changing rooms at the country club but alas I fear the world is just not ready for those as progressive as you and I James.
  4. Yeah I know. But in theory all investors are ?part of the world? so if the whole world is in dept who is profiting from the interest? Surely they can?t be in dept too? Whose economy are their profits being fed into or are the profits not as important as the political puppet strings that come with national dept? Seriously why don?t we tell them to go fuck ?emsleves? What are they going to do? The lack of any profit they make being fed back into our economy surely can?t be worse than having it as a deficit in public spending?
  5. What I don?t get is why little Al and his big mate Gordon keep on reiterating that this is a problem that the whole world is facing.* Every country is up to its eyeballs in debt apparently. Well if every country in the world is up to its eyeballs in debt, who do they owe all this money to and why don?t they just tell them to go fuck themselves? *I understand that they are trying to absolve themselves and thier supporters because admitting to being short-sighted, self-serving and arrogant would mean that the entire country would similarly have to stare that truth in the face and quite possibly consider becoming decent and sensible. That would in turn lead to a moral obligation to publicly execute just about every senior member of the major political parties.
  6. I think he was confusing it with the pub where they put a blade to your neck.
  7. Well Britain does have an exploitable amount of natural recourses left and the ability to industrialise but that would put power back in the hands of those who control the means of production. Isn?t that the communist evil everyone has worked so hard to destroy over the last few decades? Don?t forget the next government will be conservative so we can?t have that sort of thing going on. Primary production should be kept out of sight, out of mind and out of our voting constituencies, preferably somewhere far away and full of brown people who will be grateful for the work. But nowhere near where we go on holiday mind. Nobody wants to see that sort of thing.* *Other opinions are available.
  8. There really aren?t enough Monkeys in entertainment these days. Flying monkeys Monkey sidekicks One eyed monkey villains Disturbing but cute baby monkey ghosts That sort of thing.
  9. All very well and good but what?s the use of technical qualifications and trades in a country that destroyed its manufacturing industry to replace it with a ?knowledge based economy? that could supposedly magic money out of nowhere?
  10. Well precautions only have to be taken, ?So far as is reasonably practicable?. Ever tried to come up with a legal definition for what goes so far as to be reasonably practicable during the day to day working of a construction site? This in itself is a serious threat to mental health and psychological safety.
  11. O2 pushed me over the edge about 2 years ago with the same thing. In fact I let off the steam with a post very similar to yours. Feels good to get it out though dunnit?

Xena it is a sort of, Road to Damascus experience that is specific to the individual. You will know it when it comes to you.
  14. Most Email newsletters are just an html formatted email with links to the various articles and ads which are web based. Nobody tries to send out attachments as they just get blocked by email filters.
  15. Don?t get me down that route Sean. I?ve been dismissing them as lunacy but when my mind wanders down that line of enquiry I start seeing government plots to erode the power of people over their communities making them feel unsafe and thereby making them (the people) think that Orwellian control is the only thing that will ensure their protection.* ?and breath? Perhaps I am paranoid but I?m paranoid about the right people. *This isn?t the same thing as communities knowing, talking about and influencing what goes on around them.
  16. Stupid Girl - Garbage
  17. I know plenty of people in ED and none of them think it has a specifically high crime rate or are paranoid in any way. I think most people feel it is a very pleasant place to live for SE London but it is still SE London. I am however pretty sure that they all appreciate knowing what?s going on in neighborhood. If that means that when the next council elections come up they ask the candidate who knocks on their door what they are going to do about the little old lady next door who got her pension money nicked then all the better. Or tf it means that they become more aware of anything dodgy going on and they report it to the cops or if there is a specific issue people become aware of it and collectively take it to one of the community meetings the cops have then, good. All these things make a difference. Talking about Camberwell Green and cameras, I don?t think the cameras make much difference as it is pretty much the same now as it was 6 years ago.
  18. Weren?t we having a discussion/argument about alternative fuel sources recently? Anyway clicky clicky. Gas power plants could be cheaply retrofitted to generate hydrogen as well as power
  19. Can you not see the irony in making a statement like this, ?It's beating the drums and working people up into an abject fear of anyone who isn't exactly like them that is the problem.? Directly followed by this? ?? and intolerance. Which is worse than the statistically-unlikely (to ED residents)? I really don?t think that constantly ?beating the drums? is going to work people up into some sort of neurotic mess, fearful of anyone who is not like them. Most people don?t think that way. What it will do is make the people who work for us in the council and police aware of what the issues we expect them to address are.
  20. I work with a few Spaniards and to mark St George?s day they give all the ladies red roses. It signifies the blood of the dragon apparently. So there are roses in the office today which is nice.
  21. It was a deeply sarcastic statement alluding to the calamitous attempts by management consultants to modernise public services.
  22. No I?m not suggesting vigilantism, paranoia or anything of the sort but increased awareness and public pressure does affect public policy. Increased knowledge will also make people more likely to take proper precautions. Suggesting that people should just get over it is not only insulting to the victims of crime but counter productive toward building a better society, which is what each generation?s duty to the next is. Surely?
  23. Doesn?t willy?s day have something to do with May Poles? Well I suppose your national day doesn?t have to be your patron saint?s day. Why not make it Midsummer?s eve?
  24. Yeah I?ve been living in SE London for 7 years and I don?t think the crime rate has changed much. But I?m not going to resign myself to it. I live here. More importantly so do the people I love. So yes it is an issue.
  25. Yeah but Sean, don?t resign yourself to it. If it means speaking about it to your neighbours, harassing the cops to address a specific issue, making people aware, do something. Yes it happens but it?s not okay. It is definitely not okay. I?ve lived in a place where the crime rate was out of control and all this, ?I?m ?ard me I?ve grown up with crime and who are you to say anything about it?, bullshit and then trying to put some stupid class spin on it is just stupid. Believe me no matter how tough your London Veneer is it will be reduced to nothing if you witness first hand what can happen if you let violent crime get out of control.
