I my opinion the pubs and bars in ED of better than those in Clapham. There may be fewer but they certainly make up for it in quality and character.

I generally give about 10%. A few days ago though I got in from the pub and it was bucketing down. I was starving and I desperately wanted a pizza but I didn?t have any cash on me (it was all in the till at the CPT). As it was raining I didn?t feel like going out again to the ATM so I ordered a pizza and paid with my card over the phone. The pizza man arrived at my door 20 minutes later and I had nothing to tip him with except for the jar of pennies. I thought that would just be wrong though. It was raining and cold and dark and the poor guy was soaked. So I just had to take my pizza into my warm house and send him off into the night sans tip. I felt really guilty for a while but at least I had some comfort food.

I think ED?s relatively small size and isolation will ensure that it always has its own feel. It may get busier and more commercial but I don?t think it will go completely the way of places like Clapham. 1 major benefit of ED is its internet forum. Way better than the mass produced, chain store alternatives in other areas.

::o The "C" word here we go, this should get interesting? ;-) I have many friends who live in Clapham and therefore end up spending a lot of time there. I even once considered moving there in a fit of lunacy. It has better transport links than ED but because of this it is busy, over-priced and full of wankers.

Here is the proposed map with the unconfirmed Peckham Rye branch included. ........ Sorry not working. I will try again later.

Pietersen is a right arm off spinner i.e. an orthodox ?finger spinner?. He uses his fingers to spin the ball rather than his wrist. An injury to the little finger on his right hand shouldn?t be a problem when batting and guarded in a glove but wrapping it around the ball over and over is probably not the best idea until it is healed. That and the constant rush of blood and swelling (in the hand!) associated with bowling long spells is probably not good for an injury either. He is in the squad for his batting anyway. Either that or all this pretending to be a pom has turned him into a big girl?s blouse. ;-)

Yeah. Back in my day we got a lump of coal and a kick in the pants.

Perhaps one of your neighbors has a baby you could borrow and teach to swim. You could return it when the novelty wears off 2 weeks after Christmas.

The difference being that they use a fine cut of steak that has been marinated and spiced for steak tartar whereas burgers are generally made from normal minced beef which is off cuts and fat. Nothing wrong with that but you wouldn?t want to eat it rare. I wouldn?t eat a burger rare unless someone showed me a fresh piece of steak that they were going to make it from. I have only been to GBK once and it was after I had spent all day at the bar in the CPT watching a cricket match so I really can?t say what it is like.

I don?t make the traditions. If the holiday calls for a gorilla then a gorilla it must have.

I will only come if everyone is dressed authentically as characters from the nativity. 3 wise men in white coats and spectacles with lots of pens in their top pockets, 2 people in a donkey costume, a Father Christmas dressed for a job interview, a Christmas decorations salesman trying to explain to a bunch of Palestinian shepherds what snow is, Elvis in a red and green jumpsuit (Jesus? real daddy), the gorilla of Bethlehem and a star to guide them all (a local celebrity, Jerry Sinclair perhaps?).

I'll try to wash the oil off before I get there. -
EDF Christmas Party - Friday 14 December (tonight) @ The Plough
Brendan replied to Michael Palaeologus's topic in The Lounge
My work christmas party starts with a champagne recpetion at 12 that afternoon. I will get to the plough about 9 or 10 when I get tired of watching once a year drinkers make idiots of themselves. I apologise in advance for my state upon arrival. -
A friend of mine has a philosophy that, after any episode in your life be it good or bad you should always ask yourself the question, ?Did I get any sex out of it?? If the answer is yes it was worthwhile.

I hope this can answer some of your questions Maurice. Different drugs of have different levels dependency and these dependencies form for different reasons. You can?t therefore have a blanket approach to all of them and say ?Well crack addiction is the same as alcoholism.? I agree with the idea that prohibition is probably not the answer if only because by wrestling the drug dealing revenue away from the gangs we would solve so many other social ills. When it comes to heroine and crack (there are other drugs that are as addictive but these two seem to be the biggest social problem at the moment and are often used in conjunction with each other because of the way they counteract each other) the physical dependency and withdrawal may be comparable or even less than that of physical alcohol addiction. The difference being that it takes around 4 -6 years of heavy drinking for the human body to become physically dependant on alcohol and some people are more susceptible to it than others whereas it can take only a few months to become physically dependent on heroine or crack. This will have to be recognised and addressed if it is legalised which I doubt is going to happen any time soon. Psychological addiction is a different and more complex business and can be relatively benign or very dangerous depending on the individual and the drug.

When does everyone start putting up their Christmas Tree?
Brendan replied to TillieTrotter's topic in The Lounge
Traditionally decorations start going up from the beginning of Advent (The fourth Sunday before Christmas or as we refer to it on this specific day of the year, Yesterday) and then come down on twelfth night. Although I have found that if you put a tree up this early it is all dried out two weeks before Christmas. Personally I always want to put mine up as soon as possible but try to hold out until about the tenth. I also tend to get a bit over enthusiastic and come home with a tree that is far too big for the front room. Last year we completely lost the use of one of the sofas over the Christmas period as the space was taken up by tree. -
As I said earlier when things were getting heated Maximay. I can?t possibly imagine what things are like for your perspective and I apologise for being insensitive towards that. This forum is not so bad. Lots of the people on here do know each other but they are not clicky. As an outsider to both East Dulwich and England I have found them very welcoming indeed. Even though I disagree with lots of them quite often.

That?s a very pretty bike Zephyr. I would dearly love a bike but don?t have one right now as apparently the deposit for the house is more important. :'(
