  1. Transport is as much a political matter for London as the NHS is nationally. We've had two Mayors who have had bus vanity projects, Ken with his bendy buses and Boris with his New Routemaster, both of which have been revenue loss makers thanks to fare evasion. London's bus network isn't revenue earning, it has huge subsidies to keep the network operating, regardless if Khan or another Tory Mayor gets in. All TfL travel modes except the Tube receive some form of subsidy as the tube is the only one making some form of money. TfL also subsidise passengers as well, not just from cheap fares compared to the rest of the UK, but with free bus travel for under 19s, reduced bus fares for people on benefits (Universal Credit, ESA, Income Support), as well as the Over 60's pass (Freedom Pass is paid for by Southwark). This is in addition to the fares freeze.
  2. TfL have saved routes like the 19, which had a huge campaign to save one of the few cross London bus routes left. The reasoning behind the 40 decision is that there is sufficient capacity to change at the Elephant for the 35 or the 133 to London Bridge. As for the re-routing of the 40 to Clerkenwell Green, the only benefit will be when the Elizabeth line opens at Farringdon, until then, it's wasteful duplication already provided by the 63 at Peckham Rye.
  3. Hopefully it'll be slightly more entertaining than the yawnfest last time here. Ash Sarkar while I don't agree with all of her politics is entertaining.
  4. Some of the current 176 buses have been allocated onto the 88 bus since Saturday until other buses can be used. So the 176 has around 4-5 Boris Buses normally on the 12 to fill the gap.
  5. TfL's proposal for us that use the Forest Hill line is to increase the Southern trains into London Bridge to six trains per hour and increase East London Overground trains to West Croydon and Crystal Palace to 6 per hour, which will see a massive increase in trains to going north and reinstate the missing two trains axed when the Overground was introduced off-peak. There would also be additional platforms at Brockley to allow passengers to use Southeastern trains to Victoria, Lewisham and SE London.
  6. The Dulwich Argos is now up on the Argos website, they confirm that the store will open on Wednesday 17th April. https://www.argos.co.uk/stores/4426-dulwich-argos-in-sainsburys-opening-soon

TfL may have considered it not wide enough for one of their single decker buses to go along that stretch of road. It's bad enough when it's open when the traffic snarls up as a P13 squeezes between cars along there.
  8. The carbon footprint for the Peckham sorting office must be huge since the ED postal workers joined. Saw a postie park in Shawbury Road, then 10 mins later drive up to Pellatt Road to deliver mail.
  9. The P13 is so quiet when on diversion, which goes to show how well used the bus is used on Underhill Road.
  10. I've been impressed at how they've managed to keep the libraries open, while moving Grove Vale from the tiny building into a Peppercorn Rent site across the road, while extending the opening hours. Compare that to Lewisham where the majority of libraries are now run by community groups.
  11. You could always withdraw money from the phone box/ATM on Lordship Lane opposite The Grove for ?1.99 per transaction.
  12. When I get the 37, I seem to still get the old bangers with the hard seats.
  13. Strangely my magazine subscription has been arriving a day early for the last three weeks. Incidentally when I was using the laundrette off Pellatt Road recently, a Royal Mail van pulled up, with a postal worker and two agency workers delivering post in the surrounding area. I can only assume that certain parts of the SE22 postcode are getting priority for post now as it appears the post is normal for me at least again.
  14. If you live at the other end of ED, aren't you more likely to use Forest Hill or Honor Oak Park? To be fair, even West Dulwich, Herne Hill or Tulse Hill are also options. Denmark Hill is busier than East Dulwich and relatively close to Goose Green as well.
  15. I'll record and post on YouTube later this evening.
  16. Hearing that the Argos will open on Tuesday 16th April.
  17. What I like about Argos is the click and collect. You have the option to hold an item without paying and then pay and collect in store, or pay and collect at other stores including Sainsbury's in Forest Hill. Argos has got me out of numerous emergency replacements over the years!
  18. There's already an Argos in the Bell Green Lower Sydenham store (where I bought a new TV in November). It really doesn't take up that much space in the public area, with enough rooms for the tills, collection point and a small bench to sit while waiting. Going back to Sainsbury's here, they've also taken the opportunity to refit the Bakery section and there are new signs for the other counters. Magazines however have lost the massive space they had to toys and is now condensed to a section in the baby isle.
  19. Either Hyperoptic or Community Fibre were working on the Dog Kennel Hill Estate this afternoon, adding cable to the side of one of the blocks.
  20. Building work is underway in the DKH Sainsbury's to add an Argos concession store. The store will be at the back of the supermarket where the Sound & Vision, DVD's/CD's have been until last weekend. I don't know if this will mean the closure of the nearby Peckham Argos, but is good news for anyone who finds it hard to get to the Peckham store while Rye Lane is closed to traffic.

But as I > said in my post, I would prefer Community Fibre. Yes, Community Fibre's prices seem more reasonable. The basic 40mb download speed is only ?20. 200MB is ?35 and 1GB is ?50pm.
  22. Southwark Housing are working with two FTTP providers. Hyperoptic already mentioned and Community Fibre, who wrote to me last week saying that they're installing their equipment on the Lordship Lane Estate in the next few weeks. Hyperoptic did install a junction box on Bew Court however before Christmas. I suspect this is part of the deal with Hyperoptic to provide WiFi in all Tenants Halls.
  23. I have water back.
  24. It's off on the Lordship Lane Estate as well.
