  1. I'm sorry to learn the Carnegie Library may be closing. Is it possible to give more details as to how Lambeth aren't giving more support?
  2. I've been feeling the same on and off for the past week and have put it down to the muggy weather and thundery atmosphere. Feeling much much better after last night's rain.
  3. Do you mean Anterior Designs? Sold furniture and other items from Asia. I bought a few items from there
  4. Deleted my previous post as I was getting my street corners muddled up
  5. I believe one of the partners is a regular visitor to the Forum. Perhaps they may be able to advise best way to proceed?
  6. How do you reach the conclusion the collector is a. "an in̈dividual who needs cash". As I posted up thread, he collects for a properly incorporated Community Interest Company. b. homeless He may be annoying but there are a lot of annoying people in East Dulwich and the wider world.
  7. This. Young children cycling on pavements cannot be expected to be aware and mindful of pedestrians so their parents should be vigilant on their behalf. (though perhaps not in the way that, after negotiating two under fives on their bikes on the pavement, I heard the mother say "Guys, you must be careful of the old people." ! 🤪 )
  8. Always happens this time of year. Not received any ordinary mail for a while but have received a couple of 24 hr tracked on schedule.
  9. They appear to act as a "bridge", as an intermediary rather than help those in need direct. "We have working relationships with supermarkets and private businesses that generously provide us with a source of both non-perishable and fresh groceries, as well as other essential items, which we then share amongst the charitable institutions we are affiliated with." https://cityhive.org/how-we-do-it/ Its worth reading the full page. Towards the bottom of this page on their website they state "We also have a team of fundraisers who go out and collect monetary donations from members of the public, which we then use to further our cause. The money goes towards the cost of ingredients for the hot meals."
  10. There is no registered charity number because its a CIC (Community Interest Company) and not a charity. The company has been properly incorporated and details appear on the Companies House website https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/14001663
  11. As far as I know, Crystal Palace Road is neither a conservation area which refers to the built environment or a SINC - Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.
  12. Yeah, along the lines of 'oxygen of publicity.' Oh, hang on ...
  13. There is cctv footage of authorship. If they do find the culprit and find a marker pen in his possessions where the ink matches the graffiti, will there be anything to distinguish it from thousands of others of the same model made? CCTV plus the reported eye witness testimony is more likely to lead to a conviction.
  14. I went there a couple of times a few years ago. Dental exam was fine and was persuaded to see the hygienist "the whole half hour will be spent cleaning your teeth." Fine. Except it wasn't. Before the cleaning process even began, half the time was spent aggressively trying to persuade me to undergo further more expensive treatment. So I changed dentists who have never even suggested I undergo this further treatment and my gums are doing fine.
  15. Here is a link to an article about vets and support staff on strike at a practice in Wales about pay and conditions. NOTE This is not the same company that owns The Neighbourhood Vet https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/article/2024/aug/18/vets-extend-strike-in-first-industrial-action-to-hit-britains-pet-care-sector
  16. If the banging was loud enough for neighbours to hear it seems unlikely to be someone casing your house for a burglary as they wouldn't draw attention to themselves. Suspect it's a game of knock down ginger. I played it once many decades ago, got caught, and torn off a strip!
  17. Yep, there are reports in the South London Press and South London Chronicle that Camberwell Vestry (the former body reponsible for local administrative matters) ordered the paving of some streets in East Dulwich in the 1870s which extended the entire width of the road. Advertisements for houses to rent in, for example, Ulverscroft Road in the 1880s boasted the street was paved as a selling point.
  18. Perhaps some people on this thread would like to see all royal processions along The Mall banned as they close the thoroughfare to normal traffic.
  19. Whilst the LTN may well be an issue for Harold George and other businesses, this is not the same as the salon closing down because they were a "casualty" of the LTN which is what you have you have stated elsewhere. The current owner only took over a few months ago which suggests the business is viable despite the LTN.
  20. Was anyone ever charged and did it get to court? I haven't seen anything further
  21. I wondered how long it would take!
  22. Just picked up on the LTN discussion that this hairdressers in Dulwich Village has closed. While some have blamed the LTN, there is another post that says there is a notice in the window from Dulwich Estates stating the lease has been forfeited "as a result of illegal assignment/subletting". Does anyone know any more?
  23. I doubt they are so naive to be party to such a large contract without their lawyer's input who are not so naive.
