I think ED will surpass Clapham on the posh factor, because as you say Jeremy, Clapham does have some very rough housing estates, whereas ED has realtively few examples of no-go areas.. Most of the council blocks are on land owned by the Dulwich Estate anyway.

_I've never thought that E D will become like Clapham where practically every house is House and Garden'd. Nero_

People used to say that about Clapham 25 years ago when I lived there, just after I moved from Fulham. The yummy mummies are taking over everywhere. It's just a matter of time.

It was the twentieth anniversary of me moving to ED last week, in order to escape. I moved in just two weeks before the great storm of October 1987.

Does anyone know when ED became so self-satisfied? It seems really recent to me - the last year maybe, unless I just didn't notice it before, I'm not sure. It used to be a nice place to hang out in the evenings or weekends without being so pretentious. Lordship Lane reminds me of a Victorian promenade, where people just want to be see and be seen these days.
Or posing up the Kings Road used to be, or French cafe society. Go on any street in Paris and people are doing exactly the same. Mind you all us smokers have to be outside the bars and cafes these days just so we can have our fags with our booze. But I would certainly draw the line at being called self-satisfied as you put it Darcy.
Although we non-smokers now have much cleaner and pleasant pubs and restaurants to visit, the downside is that in good weather pub gardens and pavement tables at restaurants and cafes are now monopolised by that poor downtrodden minority, the smokers.

    • Saw sand on the floor of the medium lane in the pool yesterday (Friday 24th).   How does it get there? I thought that was the indicator the filters have a problem. The water itself seemed clean and clear.
    • It may also have been a "regroup" where the TSG move to another location to muster in case they are needed....a "regroup" may also be used when they are, ahem, hungry and need to get to a feeding station. The old East Dulwich police station used to be a feeding and watering hole and was often used as such and mobile units would rush there at feeding time!
    • I am doing an art course. If anyone has any large canvases (used or unused, A1 size or larger), I would be happy to take them off your hands if free or cheap! Sorry but not painted with oil, as I am mainly using acrylics and collage, and oil underneath would not work. Please PM if you have anything suitable! Thanks!
    • is anyone getting rid of one or something similar?   thanks
