I've yet to see anyone successfully kill a fish, of any kind, with a sling. I've heard stories, I mean we've all heard stories, but I've never seen it. I've never met anyone who has seen it, and I've never seen documented footage of it.

Um - isn't it the spear that kills the fish? Rather than the sling? Otherwise it would be called "sling fishing" no?

Yeah but the spear is fired by a sling contraction.


You can for instance lay siege to Baghdad with catapults even though what you are actually launching from the catapults is rocks, pieces of masonry or the occasional fellow on a heroic mission who has a knack for landing in haystacks conveniently positioned on the other side of the city walls and upsetting chickens.

They looked like they were in their 30's and well able to handle themselves when it first kicked off. Both looked about 14-15 stone or so.

Peckham has stabbings. Stabbings are bad. Therefore Peckham is bad.


I'm not suggestihg that categorical syllogisms can solve all of Peckham's issues, but it's pause for thought, no?

Islington is also a borough...... not just an area within a borough....

I must say I have encountered more rudeness on Lordship Lane than I ever have on Rye Lane. There is a small portion of EDers who think that manners are beyond them and that their children are more important than anyone else. Thankfully this is not everyone and is the minority. I have never seen any aggressive behavior in Peckham and any that I hear of is confined to gangs and very rarely involves Joe public. LL had it's own stabbing last year or have we forgotten that? The worse fight I have ever seen was in the Bishop a couple of years back and the only people I know who have been mugged were mugged on Camberwell Grove, considered a sought-after prestigious road. Don't get me wrong I love LL but RL doesn't deserve the bad name it gets.


Peckham is a culturally amazing place with lots on offer, Khans Bargains is one of my favourite shops with any spice you could possibly want and the Thai supermarket near Morrisons is great. Unfortunately bad things happen and can happen anywhere..... Unless any of you are planning on joining a Peckham gang I think the chances are Peckham's a safe place to explore.

The worst fight I ever saw was actually in a pub in Highgate of all places. It was in a big rambling country style pub called the Flask which has a very chilled atmosphere and clientele. 3 Coke-fuelled complete nutters came in and created absolute total mayhem. They sliced the barman's face open with a stanley knife and were like crazed animals. It got even worse because the bar staff then came from behind the bar and a war ensued. The barman who got slashed glassed his assailant and there was blood everywhere and mass hysteria and panic with people hiding in toilets and running from the pub screaming. It just shows that these kind of things can happen absolutely anywhere, even in posh places like Highgate.

I've no idea how 'accurate' they are in terms of actual stabbings but these figures seem to make more sense (whatever that means) than those posted earlier.

The search strings were enclosed in quotation marks (i.e. "double quotes") to limit the search to that exact phrase and Google was instructed to deliver only results from UK sources. None of the earlier searches were that precise.
