Did you have any "must dos" before you kick the bucket?

The two women walked slowly by, pushing their buggies chatting away pausing long enough to let the man dump things from the house into the rubbish skip.

? He?s gone you know! ? ? Who? ?That old bloke who lived alone here, he was trying to trace his old school pals and neighbours, never found any still alive though, he had outlived all of them even his family, no relations at all.?

? Why did he want to find them ? ? Dunno spose he wanted to leave all his things to some one. ?

? That?s the Council clearing out all his stuff, they said it has to go to the dump as they cant find out if he had a relation.?

?Did you hear the glass breaking two nights ago? Some Hooddies broke in a nicked his telly and computer, its been wide open ever since.? ? Did anyone call the police? Don?t think so they don't want to get involved .? ? Look at those papers the wind is blowing them out of the skip,? She picks one up from the pavement it?s a photo of a family group, gone brown with age. ? They might be his family must be a long time ago, look there is tram lines there! ?

? Yes and a horse and cart .?

? There is his neighbour there I am going to ask him.?

? Shame about your neighbour Mr Green. Did you know him very well? ? ? Not really he had only come back about eight months ago, he had moved away in 1976, said he had come to sort out something.?

? What happened to him? ? ? He went up the shops and get his pension, but tripped over, one of the shop staff brought him home in their car. I looked in later but he could not use his right arm, and he had fallen on the floor, I dialled 999 and they took him off. I locked up for him. And phoned the Hospital latter but they would not tell me anything as I am not related to him.?

? A man from the Council knocked on my door next day and asked if I knew of his relatives, and said he had died. The doctor had told him he was very ill, so the hospital doctors were not surprised. He had said that as he had not got anybody or expect anybody to attend his funeral he would donate his body to the Hospital, he got that idea from his computer. He liked things to be sorted so he booked a funeral anyway and paid up front. ?

? Isn't it a shame to see, all his lifetime belongings just getting thrown in there and breaking and getting wet, look those must be the unopened milk bottles that have been delivered on his step since. That must be the lot now the driver is putting the tarpaulin sheet over the skip. ?

The driver fits the lifting chains to the skip. ? Hang on a minute mate! ? One of the men runs out and shoves a aluminium Zimmer under the sheet, the skip raises and plonks onto the lorry, with ropes tied the driver drives away a bulge is just

distinguishable under the tarpaulin that Zimmer has had its last walk??

Good grief! I return only to discover depression, drunkenness, raised insulin levels due to excessive consumption of Mars Bars, and somebody has snuffed it - to boot!

LB, I'm sorry you've had such a rotten day. Why not write up your bucket list...it may sound a little nuts but I found that it focussed the mind, placed things into perspective, reminded me of what I have to be thankful for, and it has given me things to look forward to. Then, have an early(ish - have just seen time) night and remember that tomorrow is a brand new day...that in itself is amazing - isn't it? (*gives LB a BIG FAT hug*). xx

Brum: I meant it.

Karter: hmmmm...I'll deal with you later...I'll give you "mucky"...you...you...ahem...(*tries to recover composure*)...

You broke a nail? Oh well, in that case I think you coped admirably...I'd have slung myself under the nearest bus...;-)

Ahem...indeed...

Hope today is better though.

Getting this back to the list

Done the 'see club lift FA cup at Wembley' - Saints in 1976 but would be nice to see it again

Done the 'being in the opposition crowd and cheering' - Ipswich v Cologne in Cup Winners Cup some years ago (whilst visiting Cologne)

been to Old Trafford - and we didn't lose!

Would like to:

Get a tattoo (?midlife crisis??)

Do a road trip on my bike - never get a chance at the moment

Get a newer bike (Triumph Rocket Roadster would do)

Get a degree of any sort!

See the kids grow up and make successes of themselves

Am sure there are others

As karter stated, you don't need letters after your name...but as you've slogged this far to get them...my fingers are crossed...and I look forward to celebrating your impending achievement with you. xx

Ok, maybe not all the way, unless I get a year to do it in!

  • 6 months later...

I notice that The Bucket List is showing tonight (ITV 10.00pm)...it reminded me of this thread.

Reviving this thread has made me realise that I am now in the lucky position of knocking 3 items off my list: (1) my niece has completely recovered from being knocked down by a speeding car, (2) my dear forum-friend has finally found that domestic bliss that has so long evaded him - (big hugs to you both) and (3) that of playing footie in a women's footie team (thanks to DJKQ).

Now to focus on beating Westham:)).

Well I wanted to ski...and did that......I wanted to have a glider lesson and did that (and loved it)....I wanted to have a go at karting and really loved that......and now I want to have a go at rally driving.........anything fast and dangerous - I want to do it....>:D

    • You may have seen an article in the paper today about Jewish leaders and notables calling on the UN and world leaders to sanction Israel [https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/oct/22/jewish-notables-open-letter-un-sanction-israel], "... Prominent Jewish figures around the world are calling on the United Nations and world leaders to impose sanctions on Israel over what they describe as “unconscionable” actions amounting to genocide in Gaza. Over 450 signatories, including former Israeli officials, Oscar winners, authors and intellectuals have signed an open letter demanding accountability over Israel’s conduct in Gaza, the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The letter’s release comes as EU leaders meet in Brussels on Thursday amid reports they plan to shelve proposals for sanctions over human rights violations. “We have not forgotten that so many of the laws, charters, and conventions established to safeguard and protect all human life were created in response to the Holocaust,” the signatories write. “Those safeguards have been relentlessly violated by Israel.” ..."   There is also a petition we can sign to support them in their call for justice: Direct link: https://secure.avaaz.org/campaign/en/stand_with_jews_demand_action_loc_cp1/?tUwBCsb&v=502713833&cl=22394973010&_checksum=7dc99acb5dd4fc5a43a24e21772f51005ea239753e9ae3033d9f79ffd6119559 "For the first time since the ceasefire, a powerful coalition of Jewish voices have come together, urging world leaders to keep the pressure up until real accountability and freedom are achieved.Their call can shift the political mood and give leaders courage to act decisively -- Amplify their voices and stand with them: The demands of Global Jewish Voices: To respect and abide by the decisions of the International Court of Justice, noting their application also in the West Bank and East Jerusalem; to apply arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court; and to resist efforts to unduly pressure and influence and prevent the workings of both courts. To refuse any complicity in continued crimes and violations of international law against Palestinians by Israel, including by ending the provision of arms and other relevant goods and services; to use relevant leverage, including targeted sanctions on governmental bodies and individuals responsible for violations of international law, and suspension of relations with commercial entities contributing to these violations. To ensure that humanitarian assistance reaches all Palestinians in Gaza at the scale that is commensurate to their vital need, that the blockade is lifted and materials for reconstruction enter, and that there is a full Israeli military withdrawal. To refute false accusations of antisemitism that abusively deploy our collective history to tarnish those with whom we stand together in the pursuit of peace and justice. If you are of Jewish heritage you can also sign here, and we will add the number of your voices to support the Jewish call for justice. Posted: 22 October 2025"
    • I've actually met Luke Johnson and he's actually a very amicable, witty and extremely clever man. He's also created thousands of jobs and generated millions and millions of pounds of tax revenue for the government, offering goods and hospitality that countless millions of people have enjoyed over the decades. I'm not a fan of Gail's but I'm also not a fan of people who knock down good guys that have contributed a huge amount to this country.  Anyway, French Patisseries and southern hemisphere coffee don't belong on Farmer's markets.
    • What mandatory action would then be required of them?
