We used Shot by the Sherriff (in the ED warehouse), they were great. Also got some free photos done with Nousha (we were not alone in "winning" the runner up prize though ;-). Really lovely photos but eeek, prohibitively expensive - so much so that we only took our small freebie even though we did really like some of the others.

As far as I know all the photographers named above are good. We have photos by Nousha and I believe they are a bit different because Lionel is an ex royal photographer who has been on the cover of Time magazine etc. so they have 'mega' credentials (in my opinion). I know they print onto incredibly expensive paper and print with inks that cost more than gold (imagine - you wouldn't want to press print 'till you were REALLY sure!). We LOVED our photo session with them, and were blown away by the results. I can't speak for the others as haven't used them, and don't know about their printing processes etc.

But what is good is that there is plenty of choice, and hopefully something to meet every budget.

Personally I'd suggest going and meeting a few/seeing their work and comparing prices. It isn't just about cost, but also about how you feel you get on with them - you need to be relaxed, how flexible they are - say would they do an early morning shoot if that is when baby is at its best - even if 8am etc and can you cancel at short notice if you have a crisis - baby not sleeping, or doing a nosedive in the park like ours did, resulting in an attractive bloody nose (typical!), and also importantly to see if you like the style of their photos..... and I guess you can check out what paper and inks they use whilst you are at it, not that I knew about this until we had our shots done!

Good luck with it.

Hi Everyone,

after almost 3 happy years of trading at the ED Warehouse on Zenoria Street Shot by the Sheriff Photography have moved.

We are still in East Dulwich - just off Lordship Lane.

We are now in a lovely 2 story mews house in - THE OLD STABLE HOUSE behind Jo Partridge hairdressers on Northcross Road.

Just a reminder that this is not a pop in studio - you always need to book an appointment, as we operate a very busy studio and do not wish you to have a wasted trip if we are already on a shoot.

Thanks,

Keith and Nicky Sheriff

MrsC the best time to have your baby pics down is asap. The younger they are the easier they are to photograph but personally the best time is at about 6 months when they've had time for any bruising and swelling to recover from being in bump and when the fat cheeks and giggles are plentiful.

the magic hours Matt Farrow is dulwich based. He does music festivals, weddings and portraits all to an exceptionally high standard. He does the whole reportage "come in your home over a day" thing and studio portraits. He is a top notch professional and has been taking my sons pics since birth and they are always lovely and special.

    • We used to feed the birds, but once the parakeets discovered this they just took over, scaring away all the other species and eating everything in sight. I tried scaring them away with a Nerf gun, but they just didn't care. I know it will open a can of worms (no pun intended) but I really think  the parakeet population needs to be reduced; yes they are pretty, but they are just like a plague of locusts when it comes to food supplies.  PS apologies for pedantry @malumbu but the true definition of "decimate" is to reduce by a tenth... 🫤
    • If anyone is going to the meetings above, you may wish to raise the issue of the impact of the lights, noise & activity on the local bat population. Gala commissioned a survey on bat activity, which stated that activity had been identified, with several species detected, and that action must be taken to minimise any disturbance to these legally protected species. One of the recommendations was "to limit artificial lighting and reduce noise levels starting at least 20 minutes before sunset throughout the event period"  I asked the Events Team three months ago whether this recommendation had been implemented. I finally got an answer yesterday - "This recommendation was not achievable due to the nature of the event... it was concluded that not implementing this recommendation would have little impact"  So there you have it. Commission a survey (box ticked) and then don't adhere to the findings because it's "not achievable", thereby wilfully and knowingly negatively affecting the foraging & commuting habits of a legally protected wildlife species. This is on top of the useless bird survey, which only takes into account activity within the walls of the site, not the surrounding area which is full of trees with nesting birds which are undoubtedly disturbed by a month of noise, lights & activity.
    • Really good service. Good bread. And very accommodating when we had to outwit our clever resident fox.
    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
